We loved the Denali Overlook Inn. Maleia was a wonderful host and we felt very relaxed and taken care of as her guests. She gave us helpful tips on where to go and what to do in the Talkeetna area. Her breakfasts were outstanding and the accommodations were spotless, spacious, and with unmatched views (when it's not cloudy). Talkeetna is a hoot and the lucky ones get to stay at Denali Overlook Inn.

Denali Overlook Inn is a gem

Amazing views from the Denali Suite and from the living room. Host was friendly and helpful, she really cares about making our stay a great one. Highly recommend.  Would have liked if breakfast was covered (cost extra $25 per person for breakfast) being that it is a Bed and Breakfast, but I do understand that Winter is a slow season and it may not be economical for them to make breakfast for such a small group.   I do appreciate though that they gave us homemade baked goods and also provided drinks and coffee

Incredible views 

We stayed 2 nights to do Talkeetna flight see and explore the town. A fantastic place to stay with view of mountains on clear day - cloudy when we were there but we did see moose and calf from our room. The rooms are fantastic and our host Maleia was amazing. Great breakfasts , great conversation and helped us with our luggage to third floor. This was a fantastic Alaska experience and stay even though it rained and our Denali Flight See was canceled. I will return again and again to this place as people like Maleia is part of what makes visiting Alaska so special and sad to leave.

This was a very quaint little inn. Warm and welcoming. Food was delicious and the scenery was beautiful. Never saw Denali because of cloud cover but the large windows were great. No television which was fine. Wi-Fi was great. No shoes permitted in the house, wood floors were beautiful but I felt a little sketchy in sock feet.

MUST READ
We  had traveled from Kenai to Anchorage and then to Talkeetna.  We knew that in the Kenai Peninsula tiny fishing cabins abound.  Anchorage was a typical Hyatt airport hotel.  Nice but nothing special.  We were resigned to soft mattresses, shoe box sized rooms and impersonal service.  The infrastructure in the small Alaska towns is reminiscent of the 1950's if you ever traveled back then.  The rooms seemed that old and were fairly basic and primitive. If you want to upgrade, read on.  We found the Denali Overlook Inn in Talkeetna.  This is a six room resort that is located about 5 miles out of town.  What a discovery,
First the rooms.  
The entire place is custom built from massive local timbers, finished to a smooth and polished patina.  The windows are extra large with views, some of Denali.  Every amenity is high end, with fragrant upscale pump bottles of soap, shampoo, and conditioner.  Every detail you might want to find in a home away from home is already there.  The beds are about the best we have ever slept on and we are world travelers with over 50 countries visited.  The rooms are especially large for any motel or hotel, with lots of soft blankets, pillows and towels.  Best of all, the entire place is unbelievably clean.  You get slippers where you have to leave your shoes at the front hall. This entire place is immaculate.

Transportation
We had no car [arrived by train] so 5 miles from town seemed intimidating. Charlie, a state licensed tourist driver, was our lifeline.  Maleia, our host, recommended him and he was great.  It was our bad luck that her car was being serviced, because ordinarily she makes it available as a courtesy car.  Just bad luck on our timing. Charlie took us to town and picked us up when we were ready, meeting us within 5 minutes of our call or text, or waiting for us before our appointment time for a ride to town. As I say, this is usually not necessary with the courtesy car.

Price  
The room rate was quite reasonable, especially considering that you save about $30-$35 PER PERSON, EACH MORNING, as a full home cooked custom order breakfast is included.  More about this later.  The rooms have ceiling fans, AC and individual Tstats for  heat to your comfort level.  The common room is very large with couches, chairs and huge picture windows facing Denali.  There are many coffee table books about Talkeetna and Alaska, board games, jigsaw puzzles, and local nicknacks in every corner.  Many couches and soft upholstered recliners.

Food
This is not a self service buffet breakfast type place.  You can order eggs, your style, freshly baked waffles, fresh cut fruit, whole milk, 1/2 and 1/2, oat milk, several kinds of juice, English muffins and almost anything you can want for breakfast.  It is served to your seat by Maleia {more about her later}.  Cloth napkins and place mats, freshly brewed coffee, homemade cookies and pastries, silverware, not plasticware, and food and service that makes you feel at home, without the prep or cleanup.   
Best of All -- What ties this all together is the Maleia.  She is fastidious about cleanliness and good sanitary habits in the kitchen and dining room.  Plates are individually prepared and brought  to your table.  Fresh brewed coffee and tea are available all day together with Maleia's homemade chocolate chip cookies and pastries.  She had our kids out in the backyard in the evening for Smores.  She not only anticipates your needs, she also has a tremendously  personal travel and work history, and she is wonderful to chat with.

Conclusion
I rarely leave reviews, since 99% of overnight stays deliver what they promise, or almost that much.  What you see is what you get.  This experience was so far above our expectations, I had to write this long evaluation.  I believe this will be the room highlight of your Alaska experience.

# 1 in Talkeetna

We stayed 3 nights in the Denali overlook suite. They did not exaggerate about the view at all!!! It is amazing. Maleya, our host, was extremely helpful and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed. She also gave us some helpful tips for nearby hiking and dining. She also gave us a heads-up about her two adorable furry co-hosts Freya and Rhubarb, two sweet dogs. 

Amazing stay at the overlook suite 🥰

The Denali Overlook Inn was hands down one of the coziest places we’ve ever stayed. It definitely helped that we stayed in the Denali View suite and woke up to a gorgeous view every morning. It was so nice to go straight downstairs each morning and enjoy a home-cooked breakfast while chatting with our host. She was so sweet and welcoming to our curious toddler, too. We’ll definitely be back one day! 

The coziest stay!

This has been a wonderful experience. The hostess was helpful in every way and her breakfast is delicious. The inn is about 5 miles outside of town. They don’t actually have a shuttle, but tried to accommodate us when we wanted to go into town. I would stay here again.

WOW- words cannot fully describe the beauty, peacefulness and spectacular scenery of this incredible lodge. From the EPIC views of Denali and the Talkeetna Range to the incredible hospitality of the owner and staff- the Denali Overlook Inn is THE place to stay when visiting Talkeetna. Cannot recommend highly enough!

What a special place this is….from the location, to the AMAZING views to the hospitality shown by Tim and Peque.  If you can get the Denali View suite…DO IT!   (And not for just one night…you will be beyond disappointed).   Two was just perfect for what we wanted to do.  Talkeetna is a fun little town!

The linens and towels were top notch, Peque treated us to wonderful breakfasts and Tim feels like an old friend sharing all of his tips and knowledge.   You feel like home and it’s oh so hard to leave.  We will be back!!
