bed bugs, cockroaches drugs and prostitutes here black mole on fridge mos. people there say outside as long as they can  to stay our of the room i am suppressed it is not condoned drugs dealing  there often  and prostitution

My wife and I stayed at the Ace Lodge in Truth or Consequences for one night in early August 2021 while on vacation in southwestern New Mexico. We made a reservation by phone ahead of time just in case but there appeared to be plenty of vacancy once we were there. Mr. and Ms. Kern (the owners/caretakers) were very pleasant for making a reservation on the phone and for check-in once we arrived at the motel. This is a classic old school mom and pop motel probably dating back to the 1950s or 1960s just by looking at the architecture. Right up my alley! I love these old gems of the highways of yesteryear - especially the ones that are well kept and maintained. The Ace Lodge is conveniently located right on the main drag (N. Date Street) on the north end of Truth or Consequences. It's just a couple of minutes from multiple eating establishments, gas and a Wal-Mart if you must. The entire property is clean and well kept. Our room was clean and featured a small flat screen TV, microwave and refrigerator. Everything in the bathroom was in good working order and the air conditioner worked well blowing cold air all night long. Prices were very reasonable as well. Our room had two queen beds and the total came out to $55 and that included tax. This place is certainly nothing fancy but if you are looking for simple, clean and inexpensive accommodations and a place to lay your head for a few nights, I would highly recommend the Ace Lodge.  We surely will not hesitate to stay here again the next time we are in Truth or Consequences.

i stayed here November 2019 . I was stressed and came here to relax in a clean decent room . it was not clean and I wanted to stay for a whole week but I couldn’t .. the first night then I saw a cockroach but thought it was probly a random one that just got inside . That was not the case ,because it turned out that the room actually was roach infested .  It looked like there was old dried skin on the sheets as if they had not been washed . the bed was comfortable but I was itchy because of the sheets so the comfort of the bed meant nothing compared to the other issues .  fast forward a short time ...I leave to soak at the hot springs and come back and my door is OPEN. ! scary .   the knob on room 14 was different than other doors . it does not automatically lock when u shut the door . it has to be locked with the key and they didn’t even know that . they do not have a maintenance worker at this motel . there was no one to just come and fix that . so I locked the door with the key but then when I came back later then I could NOT open the door !  that is a pain in the butt to deal with that when you are a woman that comes to a motel and are there alone .  THE ROACH PROBLEM WAS TERRIBLE . THEY LITERALLY LOOKED AT ME AND SAID “ Well you just have a few more days left “  as if they really expected me to put up with roaches crawling on me ! I asked to be moved to a clean room and they said hey had no other rooms . they said they had a room “by their house “but that I can’t have that room because of some type of sewage problem in the room  (“by their house “..?..?..? whatever that meant ...there was no house there . It’s a one story motel .!)   maybe some people don’t care about roach infestation but I’m not one of the local truth or consequences drug addicts and maybe those people don’t care .when you pay for a room then the room should be clean and not have roaches !  THEY PUT ME IN ROOM 14 and LATER ADMITTED THAT ROOM 15 AND 16 WAS ROACH INFESTED . ...  

1. issue .I made a reservation on the phone for a room with 1 queen size bed but when I got there then they gave me a room with 2 full size beds instead of giving me the room that I reserved on the phone ! I know what a queen bed looks like and there was not a queen bed in the room . they treated me like I was stupid . I KNOW that was NOT the room I reserved on the phone .

  2. Roach infestation. there was roaches crawling ON ME on the bed . I left some sleep powder in the plastic cup on the nitestand . I was about to get up and pour a drink into my sleep powder but I saw there was a bunch of roaches inside my cup !  roaches in cup ..on bed , on wall ..  roaches under the fridge 

3. other than the aggravation of not being able to open my door because of something being wrong with the door knob then these people were actually not going to give me all my money back even though when I showed them the roaches and they admitted after I showed them the roaches on day 2..(I was only there 3 nights .) that room 15 and 16 was roach infested ...that’s like giving someone a roach infested room on purpose unless they really didn’t know any better . no it’s not that they are such hillbillies that they didn’t know ...they acted kinda shady like they were trying to be sly  ...I am pretty sure that they were hoping that I wouldn’t care if there was a roach infestation .... when they saw roaches in my room then they did not act surprised or anything. 

4. Amazingly they did give me a refund  so I was glad for that ,but if I had not gotten so upset then  I don’t believe they would have given me one and they definitely would not given me the whole refund if I didn’t act upset .  what did they expect . I had not slept AT ALL the last night I was there . I was awake all nite 

IF THEY WOULD FIX THESE PROBLEMS THEN THIS COULD BE A DECENT ENUF MOTEL .

Venue is ancient. Plaster falling off of walls and bathroom a real mess. Clean, but falling apart. Bed was horrible. The worst part was an ice machine that sounded like a road grader moving gravel. Would come on every 30 minutes followed by loud fan noise as more ice was made. Don't stay in rooms 8-12 if you are forced to stay here. Parking was difficult because lines were at an angle and a truck was always in the way. The sheets didn't match, more like garage sale stuff, you know real think and old style. In fact the bottom sheet didn't have enough elastic to stay on the mattress.

Go on down the road

On my last-minute rush trip to New Mexico, this place was listed at $44 (plus tax) on TA. As I usually do, I called the motel to ask the price. He quoted $40, including tax. I'd be arriving late, but he said reception is open 24 hours: Ring the night bell and they'll be there. I asked about TA reviews saying things like old rooms smelling like mold; he said he'd give me the newest and nicest room available. (And, as I found out: He did.) Deal!

After a long drive that ended after midnight, I rolled through T or C (as New Mexicans call it... before a contest on Bob Barker's 1950s broadcast show, the town was named Hot Springs). The motels I saw along the way had only a few cars... with dark signs along the street saying "No Vacancy". That made me nervous. (Tip: If you're coming from the south along I-25, take the north exit anyway. As I found out, it's faster.) But, about 30 seconds after I rang the bell here, a woman appeared, turned on the office lights, and checked me in without even wanting an ID.

My non-smoking room had a strong smell: cigarettes? or renovation? (The man I spoke with on the phone had said they started renovation, the roof leaked... so they fixed that... now they've started on the rooms again.) Almost everything seemed new except for thin pillows with dingy pillowcases. There were plush and colorful (if worn) towels in the bathroom. There was lots of very hot water. The bathroom had all-new fixtures.

My room was at the back. There was little road noise from the main drag.

There was no morning coffee... just the room. The refrigerator was warm (it would be nice if, once they rented the room to me, they'd cool down the fridge).

The room had only one electric outlet by the bed. TIP: I like to bring extension cords with a triple-power tap, or a power strip with an extension cord, to get more outlets and in case there's no outlet free.

I grew up in New Mexico, so I already know this town as friendly, quirky (especially now, after the apparent-boondoggle Spaceport America), great hot springs (check out the funky Charles Hotel), and some delicious cafes with good New Mexican food. (Hatch, the town that's the now-famous source of New Mexico chile, is about half an hour south of T or C.)

Next time, I may make this a destination rather than a place to spend the night.

Mostly Truth, few Consequences (sorry :)

Clean bedding, hot shower, quite area!  Great stay!  He hiked all day at the Keller Town Mine then stayed in Truth or Consequence.  The hotel was very relaxing and nice.  Owner super sweet! Would stay here again.  

Fantastic price!

Basic, clean, friendly staff. Real pet friendly (important!). The quietest motel I ever stayed in. I brought my own coffee and hotpot. I felt real comfortable. Central location. Glad I stumbled upon it and may stay an extra day!

Good for the price

You might want to update your pictures. The room was a bit scary. The bathroom was even worse! Mold growing in the shower. The soaps by the sink had been there awhile and had rust, or something on them. I almost slept in the car. Thankful it was only one night.

It would require some maintenance, especially when it comes to the bathrooms. The rooms are small and the cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. It's probably the cheapest solution, but for an extra ten dollars it's better to opt for one of the other low-end motels.
