Whoa! Not so fast! Don’t be mislead by the website photos and descriptions - this place has issues. we got a Coventry room with two double beds - one of then was honestly awful you could not lay in it was too soft, and the other - barely better. So we both had to seep i the bed. Furniture and  decor old and basic. When we were there, most of the place was reserved for street repair crews and other workers who sat around outside smoking and drinking. Not relaxing at all. Pool  - it’s big, but ,,, place did have an elaborate and really nice gym equipment. One star. And had one washer and dryer that I found. Another star. would not bring a family there.

MIs-leading website! Take a real look

Nice motel.  Not real fancy but clean and warm with an indoor pool and hot tub.  My room and bath were smallish but that was fine with me.  The bed was comfortable.  They used lights with real light bulbs, not the 25 watt things that a cheapo place would use.  I reserved on line and for some reason my reservation tripled.   The woman at the counter fixed that without hassle but I would strongly recommend confirming your reservation on the phone.  I'll be back.  And the breakfast diner a few doors down was lovely. 

Clean, comfortable, warm and reasonably priced.  

Friendly,welcoming, & accommodating staff. Clean rooms, easy parking, close to area restaurants, indoor pool & hot tub, and great shower pressure in rooms. Would definitely stay there again when in the area. Easy 30 minute drive to Jay Peak and right off the highway (route 91).

Just what you’re looking for

I stayed at the Newport City and Suites and Hotel last weekend.  I arrived late on Friday night and when I entered the room, I immediately smelled cigarette smoke. The next day I asked if I could switch rooms because my neighbor was smoking heavily outside my room and the odor wafted toward me, but I was told I would have to pay for another room.  The cleaning staff had left and my room would be un-rentable.  I decided to stay where I was since a new room could put in the same situation.  There were ash cans outside many rooms. Oh, my neighbor went out several times during the evening to smoke.  The last I heard was 3AM.  I woke up every time because the door squeaked.  It needs some WD-40.  
As far as cleanliness, there was a layer of dust on the headboards and behind the night stand.  The carpet was not vacuumed.  The blankets had stains on them.  However, the bathroom was clean.  That was a plus.
Newport is a small northeast town and those typically do not have chain hotels nearby.  That is what adds to the charm of the town.  
Vermont law allows smoking outside hotel rooms, you can’t do much about that; but there is no excuse for dirt.
I’m going to a wedding in September.  I am now staying in a Bed and Breakfast and will not recommend this place.

Smoke and dirt

I was very pleased with my room and the service at the Newport City Inn & Suites.  I stayed for nearly one week on a trip to see family in Newport.  I used the pool on my first morning there which was open from 7am and a member of staff was there to help me turn on the jets in the hot tub and show me where to get changed (there are changing facilities in the pool area).  

My room was very clean and accommodating, the fridge was turned down when I got there but I figured out how to work it and the microwave and they worked just fine the duration of my stay.  The bathroom was clean and the separate sink (I was in the Coventry Falls room) was good and toiletries provided.  The only thing missing was a plug in the bathtub so I couldn't take a bath, but the shower worked great.  The heater was a bit noisy but the thermostat was easy to use and controlled the temperature well.

The staff on check-in and check-out were very helpful and courteous.  I didn't have much interaction with them otherwise but I did use the washing machine and dryer (bring your own quarters, as there is not a change machine available) and these worked well.

The only downside was that my room had a door to open to the adjoining room and when my 'neighbours' were talking I could hear them (and they could probably hear me!).  But this was not the hotel's fault.  All in all, a very good stay and I would come back!

Great hotel for family visit in Newport

Booked direcltly from hotel for 98$ AAA rate 

Checked in after 6 PM and was provided a ground floor room, motel type with parking in front (good since i had my bike). The room was decent, smallish, a bit old and tired, lower quality TV, spotty wifi. 

They have a big nice pool in the back but did not use it. 

They offer a card with 10% discount at a nearby dinner which i used the next day (The Brown Cow, opens early, good breakfast). They have some decent restaurants in town, a short drive away (Dusit was great Thai)

OK if you have business in town.

Decent option in Newport

I wish these people along with other motels / hotels would update their sites and state “no breakfast”. I usually book a place with a quick get away with a snack when we leave. Lately more places of stay only offer coffee if you are lucky

The woman who checked us in was rude and unfriendly, and all I was doing was checking in (not asking for special favors or anything)! The room was okay, but really small (had only 1 foot of space between the bed and the wall , making us have to walk sideways to get in the bathroom. Towels were frayed. The room and bathroom was clean at least. 
If another decent brand hotel came to Newport, I think their business would go downhill fast, especially with unwelcoming staff! But they are the only place in town besides B & Bs, so I hope they will step up their game.

Checking staff unfriendly and rude

I expected much more !! The first impression is so important. There was a very strong smell in the room. Very very average room. Expected more for what I have paid for sure!. There was multiple flies in the room. I wish I would have got another hotel!!

It a good experience

This motel is right off the highway to Quebec, making it very convenient for a road trip stop.  The border was a short drive away.  Our room in the newer building was clean, modern , and comfortable.  Shower pressure was incredible!  Very friendly people at the front desk.
