Where do I begin? The window was broke and would not Close. so the cold air came in all night long the mini blinds kept falling down which I kept putting up and that gave me no privacy because I was right next to the office. so I just took a sheet and tack it over the window finally. The lamps were broken resulting in poor lighting. there were cigarette Burns all in the comforter on the bed and mattress had stains. The ice maker in the 30-year old mini fridge kept making a whining noise. And there was this cracking and popping coming from the shower constantly. The toilet late so every 15 minutes it would fill back up with water. All about it was the worst place I've ever stayed.

A wretched uninhabitable hotel

I had a reservation for two nights at Budgetel in Birmingham while visiting the city, and arrived at 8:55 PM at the property after some difficulty in locating the motel. I should have read reviews about this place before booking. The reception door was locked, and after some persistent knocking, a black lady told me (without opening the door) that they were closed. What kind of motel closes early and doesn't allow guests to check in? It happened on a cold rainy night, and the motel owner had no qualms about leaving me outside in the cold. I got on the wifi at a nearby McDonald's and reserved a room elsewhere, and there the stay was much more normal. Avoid Budgetel in East Birmingham at all costs. The black ladies running the place are anything but friendly, and could care less about any level of service. Funny, isn't it, how word gets around with the internet? I hope that I drive this motel out of business.

Big 0 rating -- avoid at all costs

Well ladies at desk were nice,,room is filthy,,tv didn't work and no assistance, I have killed 7 roaches or more..I get that the price is reasonable, I get that unsavory characters may be here,,what I don't get is the notion that the staff doesn't clean thoroughly..I am sure the blame is placed on the people, however the business is and should be sustained by proprietor and staff..stains on wall..I bought a dollar container of bleach and simply wiped.. why can or should I have to do that..i mean if you desire I pay then make it clean at least..i realize this isn't a top chain, however in other places it may he different,  the point is whenever one spends money there should be a sense of entitlement.  I mean staff is paid yes,,so work..if one can't do the job, then allow someone else.200 to 225 bucks a week is still enough for a decent environment. times that by the occupancy rate and what you get is no excuse for these type of shenanigans..I just don't understand the issue with one doing their job..we will see how things progress as I have no other choice..I am dissatisfied and disappointed this far.

Cockroaches, junkies and nonstop ambulances! This place will never bore you! We have had someone yelling next to us for months. All hours of day or night, you can hear a man yelling "Mama! Tracy! I need my shot!" You can hear them talking all day and all night. Complaining about blown out veins and drug rambling. They're shooting up and selling drugs out of the room. Talked to management. Nothing. Cockroaches living in the appliances. Took the microwave to the office because you could see roaches running in front of the clock. Their solution? We didn't get another microwave. Ambulances drive around on a weekly basis picking up people that have overdosed. There are tons of disabled vehicles in the parking lot that are full to the brim with garbage. Some of these have been here as long as we have. There are only two stove eyes. One works 50% of the time and the other 25% of the time. Sinks have been clogged for months. Talked to the maintenance guy who said he didn't have time and that he'd fix it the next day. Nope. That was two months ago. The blankets and sheets are disgusting. They're covered in cigarette burns and smell awful. They were covered in liquid stains and I don't even want to think about what the liquid was. We gave ours back and used our own. Same with the towels. One night when we came back to our room and our key card didn't work. Spent 5 HOURS trying to get the onsite manager to come to the office. When she finally did and I told her they key didn't work she said oh I was afraid that was going to happen. There are children left unattended in the parking lot. I have had a child in diapers run out and hit the side of my car with his hand while driving around the parking lot because the children (under age 10) that were left to watch them didn't see him run off. Talked to management. They didn't do anything about it until one of the children pulled the fire alarm and they had to pay $600 for it to be turned off. Because who cares about children being ran over in the parking lot, right? If you're only staying for a couple of days and can ignore roaches and junkies then you could tolerate this place. If you have found yourself in a situation where you have to stay longer.....don't do it.

It's ok to stay to really save some money but it won't be comfortable. Very dirty. The microwave doesn't work. Both sinks are clogged. The toilet is crooked with electrical tape repair for a broken seat. The stain where the toilet's original location has not been cleaned. Cockroaches, some shower mold, burn holes on comforter etc. The office isn't always open.

Not Good

Nasty and all the people hanging around outside look scary. Roaches running around everywhere. I would starve before using the stove or microwave. Looks as if people have lived here and never cleaned up and just left it. Bathtub had not even been wiped out. We left immediately and called health department. Health department said they had a lot of complaints but had not checked it out yet. They need to get busy because this is a real dump. Manager could care less.

Horrible place!

Just finished a pleasant one week stay here.First,the manager accommodated me with a late check in.Then my room; small but nice, had an excellent walk in shower.There was a once weekly visit from housekeeping and fresh towels and tissue at the office when available.This is a good value in a great location with friendly, helpful service.
