Went here with our best friends this late summer and we really liked everything there. Staff was polite. Food was good and tasty. 
Would higgly reccommend this place.
Weather was really really nice as well!

This was my first visit to Martha's Vineyard.  I wasn't sure what to expect, where to go, what to do...  I lucked up staying at The Clark House, and even more lucky to be hosted by the AMAZING Lisa!

Lisa knows the lay of the land, she had great recommendations on things to do, places to eat, how best to get around the island.  The service Lisa provided was beyond exceptional - from the first time she called to confirm my booking, to the several times I called her leading up to my arrival and through my entire visit.

I left my phone in a taxi, Lisa saw me sitting on the sun porch (probably looking frazzled, as I didn't know where to begin searching for the one taxi out of what seemed like 100 taxi services on the island).  Lisa immediately jumped in and took over.  Two phone calls later, my phone was in-route back to The Clark House.

I really could go on and on - location of The Clark House is great, you can walk to the ferry station, easily jump on a bus and get to town in a matter of minutes.

Thanks Lisa for making my first trip so memorable!  I'm sad to hear this is the last season for The Clark House as a bed and breakfast - wished I learned about it sooner!

Great House/EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE

My experience there would have been excellent, except for the fact that their website was hacked and my personal info was exposed, that was fringe benefit I did not expect. Pay cash save yourself the trouble, since the website is not secure.

After arriving in the afternoon to Martha’s Vineyard we decided to spend the night and enjoy a little more time on the island.

Clark House was one of the most affordable options in this spur of the moment decision.  When we arrived the hostess made us feel at home right away. Gave us a map of the islands bus routes, recommended some places to go and showed us our room. Even upgraded our suite at no extra cost.

The room was cozy and very nicely decorated. There was also a day bed and a separate mini living room just for us (room 3).

The next morning she was down in the dinning room informing us of the very diverse and tasty breakfast menu (included): broccoli cheddar quiche, blue berry french toast and chocolate chip pancakes just to name a few of the things I had. We had a pleasant conversation with her and said goodbye shortly after breakfast.

If you’re going to stay in Martha’s Vineyard this is a very nice place with a very “home-like” feel to it and not outrageously expensive.

Nice place, best hostess!

Our review is skewed by the fact that there was an ant hill found in our bathroom on day 2. While the inn keeper/staff came out right away to spray some stuff on it, it put a damper on our overall feeling toward the room. She did confess that they had seen a similar issue outside the home (so it is probably a structural problem?).

We stayed in room 3, which was spacious and included a garden room large enough to accommodate a small pack and play crib for my daughter. The inn keeper was gracious enough to bring a fan into that room since there was no AC and very hot temperatures that week when we stayed.

Breakfast was fine and plentiful - many options from eggs to fruit to pancakes - but could have been more fresh and appetizing.

The inn is about half a mile or more to downtown so I don’t recommend unless you are comfortable walking up and down hill both ways. We did the walk with stroller which was just manageable but in retrospect should have stayed closer to Main Street.

Overall our stay was ok, but the innkeeper did not apologize or offer anything for the bug related issue and we were surprised by the lack of sentiment. 

I also thought there was some less than tasteful and definitely not very worldly or culturally competent comments made by the inn keeper about our names/backgrounds. Something like “you don’t look like a Lucy so that’s probably not you!” Upon check-in. Which was definitely an off color comment to make.

Average room + ok service + bug issue

The Clark house is an old property and not very kid friendly. Upon arrival to our room, Lisa told us that since the rooms are close, if our 7 week old baby we’re to cry we should bring her downstairs and outside till she stopped crying so as not to wake the neighboring rooms. They did give us a playpen for our 2 year old however it didn’t seem very clean. The breakfast is very basic and the managers are at breakfast every morning watching everyone and basically stalking you and watching all you eat. Also, no one came to clean our room on our 2nd day there and we were forced to deal with wet, dirty towels and a messy room. We wouldn’t stay here again.
