We went with friends to Washington for cherry blossoms in the period 03.24-26.2023 (we booked two rooms). We stayed in this "hotel" The Virginia Lodge.

In the evening I got ready to go to bed and removed the bedspread I found crumpled bed linen. But after I saw the someone's hair and crumbs of dirt on the supposedly fresh clean bed linen, I slept dressed. No one changed this bed linen, it was just refilled. Otherwise, how to explain such an amount of hair on a supposedly clean, fresh bed linen?

The bed linen is full of cigarette holes, although it says that the rooms are non-smoking. But there was a smell of cigarettes in the rooms, they smelled of all things. Keep this in mind if it's important to you. There are dried insects on the windows. I attached a photos.

Never again

If you’re looking for a place to stay that has the bare minimum, you found it. Bed, tv, fridge, microwave, bathroom. That’s about it. The room wreaked of smoke, deposited being a non smoking room. There’s evidence of shoddy handy work all around: outlets not screwed in, half hearted paint jobs, and holes in the wall where door handles hit. Positives? Convenience to DC sights. And the bathroom wasn’t terrible. Shower was nice, once the water warmed up. Honestly, it’s a place to put your stuff while you sightsee and eventually sleep, not a place to relax though.

You get what you pay for

pacious room, ok bed, heat works, plenty of hot/cold water in sink and shower, felt safe, Indian restaurant on property (leased to someone else). Even though the hotel looked busy, I did not hear any loud disturbances. The room was dirty and outdated. The linen and bedspread were of very bad quality and worn out. All surface areas needed cleaning and clearly were not cleaned after the last person used the room or for a very long time. The phone had baked on grime/dirt from years of not being cleaned.  Towels were not stocked (missing a towel), some shampoo, but barely enough for one person. The WIFI was limited and regularly dropped my connection and had a very weak signal – it did not work at first, but the front desk clerk fixed it and tried to act like it was working all along. Don’t get me wrong, I will never stay here again, but if you are driving and can bring your own linen, cleaning supplies, and vacuum you can save a lot of money visiting the area (I forgot to mention the big stink bug that landed on my pillow while I was reading). There is a bus stop right next to the hotel, so getting to the metro rail is convenient to get to downtown DC. The hotel is just over a mile to 495 Beltway.

Dirt outdated room, but cheap.

It a clean friendly , and helpful place ,even durning this hard time. It's close to metro and has it's on dinner on set. The is very helpful and kind. They have no trouble helping you . You are also close to other business  up and down main street.

Great place

Another cut-rate notelmotel that online booking sites totally lie about. It was a roof. It had a bed. The TV worked. The bulletproof glass in the lobby was NOT a nice touch, and the rest of the clientele I saw looked like they could be by the hour people. Not thinning I'll be back.

Verrrrrrry sketchy place...

This reminded me of a motel in a unpopular seaside resort - clean, well-maintained but showing its age nevertheless.  If you need shiny new you'll have to pay more - or go down to Fredricksburg.  Great value considering the location - and perfectly adequate for our needs.  Staff most accommodating.

No Frills but Great Value for the Money

Great location just south of I-495. Room was clean and recently painted/updated. Front desk was friendly and responsive. Large fridge with freezer. Towels were thin but adequate. For the price, this was a great option.

Great for the Price

I booked 2 rooms for my family and I to evacuate for  hurricane Florence that hit NC and was looking for reasonably cheap but clean rooms to spend a couple of days. The room that I stayed in had an unpleasant smell, as well as slight smoke smell, and there was dry toothpaste in the sink, as I continued to inspect the room, I decided to smell the beds before we even got into them and the beds reeked of body odor as well as a couple of hairs being found in the shower. I tried to not make a big deal out of it and asked the attendant in charge just to switch me to a clean room so he offered me 3 different rooms, unfortunately, none of them looked like they had been cleaned in weeks. I even took pictures to show the manager in charge and told him we wouldn’t stay there. I politely asked for a refund being that we checked in and stayed perhaps 30 mins at the most, he quickly lost his patience and told me “ you paid for a Hyundai not a Mercedes”, which is understandable but shouldn’t cleanliness be a standard no matter the price point? Nonetheless, he was rude, inconsiderate, and denied me of a refund. The attendant was friendly but the manager was not hearing any of my concerns even though I had photo evidence. Needless to say, if you value cleanliness, look elsewhere, spend a little extra to get a clean room with a bit more security.

Pros

Room was small but comfortable, clean. Bed very comfortable. Good strong shower.Big screen tv, (basic channels only)

Cons

This is a bare bones motel: thin scratchy towels, no food, no lounge, no transportation. Don’t stay here unless you have a car. The location isn’t terrible: a short drive from Alexandria’s Old Town area and from the end of the Metro yellow line. However you’ll either need a car or to use a taxi or rideshare to get anyplace. Given the intense rush hour traffic this can be a significant challenge: we waited 45 minutes for a Lyft at around 6 pm on a Wednesday.

Safety- Although I certainly didn’t feel unsafe, this is one of those old fashioned motels with ground floor units opening onto the parking lot, thus not secured by the front desk. I nearly laughed when I saw the old fashioned key on a plastic  holder. If you are nervous about hotel safety, ask for a second floor room, or else stay in a hotel with modern security features.

The price is low, but when you consider that the nearby Holiday Inn Express and Marriott both have free breakfast and free shuttles to the train station, it looks less competitive.

Low price=low convenience

A very nice hotel for the price.  This by far is not the Taj Mahal.  What it is is a no frills hotel that is reasonably priced with clean rooms and a wonderful staff.  And as a bonus there was a fridge and microwave in the room.  I stayed here because it was a short distance from where I was working and not too many choices in hotels for the dates I needed.  That said, I would stay here again.
