My friend and I were just here for one night, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was well-appointed and had plenty of space for two people. We stayed in the Papa bungalow, and there was a mini fridge, microwave, electric kettle, and coffee pot, and two sets of utensils, plates, bowls, mugs, and cups. This made it easy for us to eat the small dinner that we had brought with us, and enjoy the lovely French toast and fruit that was in the mini fridge in the morning! We enjoyed listening to the coqui frogs and soaking in the hot tub in the evening, and we had a great night's sleep in the very comfortable bed. We only wish that our stay could have been longer. We highly recommend staying 2 days in Volcano if you can so that you can fully explore the national park. (We managed to see many of the sites in about 6 hours, but could easily have spent another day). Mahalo!

Peaceful retreat in the forest 

The VVE looks nice from the pictures online.  However, some of the rooms are not as nice.  

Our first room was the UmaUma falls.  It was too small and the microwave needs to be replaced.  It is dangerous for people with pacemakers, like me.  
Also we didn't like the packets of maple syrup.  Real maple syrup is not hard to come by.  Please thro the packets of maple syrup away. 

Needs some renovations, but the staff are very nice and we like the Pineapple Ohana, and John transferred us to VVL

Went to VVE for a wedding and I was amazed at how smooth everything went! The accommodations were amazing! We stayed at the Akaka house and it was like staying in a fairytale house. It was so comfortable! John, Kalei and the rest of the staff was amazing! So peaceful and beautiful. Everyone made us feel so comfortable. Location to all amenities was great! We had so much fun. We didn’t want to leave. 

Amazing, quiet and comfortable 

Incredibly cozy room right next to the Volcano National Park. The room was clean and welcoming. Upon arrival we were greeted by the innkeeper and shown around the grounds. A breakfast and plate of fruit was also included as breakfast each morning. 

Great for park goers and folks looking to enjoy the mountains.

Great volcano stay

Great quiet location, clean cottage, and friendly staff.  Nice warm muffins welcoming us upon arrival.  Really liked the lights wrapped around the tree on Route 11 to identify the Estate road when returning at night.  

The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is the breakfast situation.  I knew what I signed up for as they advertised a breakfast placed in the fridge the day prior and an opportunity to warm it up at our leisure the next morning.  However, microwaving cold and wet French toast or eggs was not appealing the next day.  I’d rather pay less and not have breakfast, or arrange a time for the next day for hot breakfast to be delivered.  Wasn’t a very ideal situation for us personally.

Otherwise easy to recommend VVE for a great stay close to the National Park.

Great quiet stay near the National Park.

Comfort and convenience to the Hawaii Volcano National Park. We stayed 5 nights at the Akaka Falls cottage. We arrived in the rain and John must have been watching out for us as he came out to the car with an umbrella as we were debating if we were parked in the right place. Our cottage was always tidied up with the next day’s breakfast in the fridge when we returned from our day out. Every staff member we met were pleasant, helpful, & friendly. We had something different every morning, a hot entree and fresh fruit. The kitchen was well stocked and they provide tea, coffee, creamers, sugar, and bottled water which was replenished every day. They also had a bottle of cooking oil, salt, pepper, and cooking utensils if one should want to do any cooking. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely recommend staying here.
The only issue I have is that the turn off into the entrance is not very obvious and easy to miss. However, we were able to get there without problems with our GPS.

Comfort and convenience to the Hawaii Volcano National Park

Wow, the perfect tranquil oasis in the rainforest. 
I recently stayed at VVE in the Laka Cottage. The room is gorgeous, everything feels very luxurious and the room is extremely spacious. The bed was divine, appointed with super soft linen and an array of pillows. I loved the full kitchenette with mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave and porcelain dishes. Breakfast and fruit is left in your fridge the night before, so you can warm it up in the morning at your own convenience. Breakfast in bed with a beautiful view out into the greenery was perfect. 
The grounds of the estate are gorgeous, lots of tropical plants and flowers. Dillingham House has a lot of history, which the staff is happy to share. All of the employees are helpful, friendly and caring. 
The estate is just a stone’s throw away from the National Park entrance. Perfect for late night lava viewing. The little town of Volcano is close by with very limited dining options. Make sure to make reservations ahead for dinner or stock up while you are in Hilo. 
If you are looking for the perfect peaceful getaway to take in the beauty of the island, learn about Hawaiian Culture and sprinkle in some luxury, Volcano Village Estate is the perfect place for you. Ultimate relaxation.

Hawaiian Oasis

Spent Wed-Sat (4) nights in late January 2023 in the Rainbow Falls cabin for $386 per night including tax and fees.

The facility is a 100-year old former summer residence with several detached guest houses.  Setting is in a rain-forest area typical of the eastern half of the Big Island.  There was a hot tub on the grounds.

The room had a small kitchenette with microwave and coffee maker, stocked with some great local coffee.  Small front porch with two chairs and a table. The bed was comfortable.  There was adequate hot water. And it was very quiet. It got to about 50F at night, and heat was provided by a gas fireplace insert, either full-on or full-off.  We used it for a couple hours before bedtime, the switched it off until morning. The only knocks on this room were that there was no table inside (lap-tables instead) and the internet service was unreliable (we hot-spotted with our phones). And my favorite “gripe” applies to about 99% of places we stay:  in a room for two there is only one suitcase stand.

Location was about 3 miles from entrance to Hawaii Volcanos NP, although you could walk about a mile and access a service road/hiking trail into the park at Highway 11 near Old Volcano Rd.  Another half-mile would bring you to the Lava Tube and access to the Kilauea-Iki crater rim trail.  Several average-to-very good restaurants were within a couple miles of the accommodation.

As long as Kilauea-Halema’uma’u crater is active, book early and make reservations for dinner.  It makes for a busy place.

Hosts John and Pua could not have been nicer.  John was always around and making sure we had everything we needed.  Although he was always busy, he gave us a tour of the main house (Dillingham House) which was beautiful.  He also had a vast knowledge of things to do in the area and took time to share those.

Breakfast (fruit & entree) would be delivered the day before, and the entree-of-the-day (pancakes, French toast, quiche, burrito) was heated in the microwave.  They were all excellent.  (And you could have your breakfast on your own schedule.)

If I were returning to the area, I would stay there again.

Nice cabin in the woods

We were looking for a place to stay near the national park and assumed we would have to settle for something less comfortable than we wanted after a long day hiking. Well, we hit the jack pot with Volcano Village Estates. We stayed in one of their bungalow rooms. Beautifully restored and very comfortable, quiet and clean. We were met by John, who is very friendly and helpful. He delivered our next day’s breakfast each afternoon. The fresh fruit was delicious as was the French toast. We didn’t use the hot tubs but they looked inviting.

We highly recommend VVE! Hope we can stay again.

Comfort in the Rain Forest

This place was so cute!  We stayed in the Junior Suite in the Dillingham House, which was a great little space for us.  My first thought and comment was "oh man, hope no one is under us" because as the kids (3 and 8) thundered into the room, you could certainly hear them on the real wood floors.  Thankfully we were alone the first night, but would be sharing a wall our second night.  I did hear the neighbors a bit the second night.  Didn't really bother me much, but just adding that for anyone with a noisy family like myself!  HA  I was more worried about disturbing others.  It had an "old house" feel but was so nicely done and cute and well appointed!  The junior suite had a queen sized bed and a twin trundle bed so everyone had their own bed.  I wish I could have peeked into and explored every single room.  The grounds were nice and quiet and well maintained.  As expected, it was super close to the Park so it didn't take us long to get there and back.  Staff was very friendly and we really enjoyed the breakfasts we had!
