Don't judge a book by its cover. The exterior doesn't present that well, though the front veranda decor is quite romantic and the back patio is also nice. We didn't spend any time on either lanai. The interior is LOVELY and the hosts have thought of EVERYTHING: a welcome basket of papaya, pineapple, bananas and chocolate macadamia nuts, packets of oatmeal and hot chocolate, a loaf of apple cinnamon bread and a package of macadamia nut pancake mix. Hershey kisses on our pillows. The towels wrapped fancy. Wow. We didn't expect this! 

Everything was as pictured on the website. The kitchen is well-stocked, and you really don't need to buy anything for breakfast, as noted above. 

It was fairly warm when we were there, so we would have appreciated the addition of air-conditioning, though I gather it's not usually needed. A very noisy nocturnal bird in the "jungle" made it difficult to sleep with the windows open.

Television works well, and this is a good location from which to explore Volcanoes National Park.

Ohia Paniolo!

Made reservations to stay in March right before the eruption.  The owners kept me updated on the status of Volcano National Park and the lava flow from fissure 8.  Bernadette sent me links from the national park, letting me know what was going on and offered cancellation if I requested.  We visited Ohia in July 2018, it was fabulous.  Lovely placed situation amounts lots of greenery.  The home was quaint, providing all amenities, including breakfast foods (eggs from owners property).  The BBQ and hot tub were great additions.  It was unfortunate Volcanoes National Park was closed during my stay, location was so close.  We did take Bernadette's recommendation and went on a Lava Ocean Boat - what an incredible experience, once in a lifetime, watching the lava flow, feeling the heat and experiencing the sunrise all at the same time.  Be forewarned the boat was rough and if prone to seasickness will be tough.  I highly recommend this lovely home to anyone going visiting this area.

Amazing Home and Owners

We enjoyed ourselves so much I almost don’t want to share so this place can be our secret. Beautiful home and owner provided so much info before we came that we were busy all day. It was great to escape the heat in the cooler Volcano climate and relax in the hot tub

Welcome basket upon arrival. Beautiful house You won't be disappointed. All was perfect. beds were awesome.  Loved everything about it. close to Volcano National Park. Great owner.

PERFECT

We stayed at the Ohia Plantation House for two nights during our 11 day tour of the Big Island of Hawaii. This was probably our favorite stop of all four places we stayed at as it was very cozy and private. We booked our trip last minute and were lucky enough to book a few nights at this little house in Volcano as it usually is booked in advance for good reason. There were just two of us staying but the house had three bedrooms (King, Queen and two twin beds). The mattress in the master bedroom was very comfortable. The temperature can dip at night so it’s not a bad idea bring some warm clothing or you can always hop in the hot tub that is located on the patio in the back yard. As mentioned, the property was completely private which was nice. The kitchen was well stocked and we also received a welcome basket of fruit and bread. My advice is to do some food shopping before coming to stay as the local stores in Volcano can be expensive. 

Another perk was the location. Both nights we drove into Volcano National Park just after 10:30pm as there were no tourists viewing the lava at the crater (beside the Jaggar Museum). It was amazing to view the bubbling and exploding lava at night. The park is open 24 hours. 

This was a comfortable place to stay at and I would stay here again when we come back to the Big Island of Hawaii (if it’s available!).
