This was the first time I’ve stayed in the Lodge since they closed for renovations a year or two ago.  The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable.  Everything was very clean.  We lucked out and had a good view of the canyon.

Check-in and check-out was way too slow. 

We went through 4 room keys and two didn’t work.  They said that was a common problem.

We had breakfast at the restaurant which was very good.  We tried to charge it to the room but it wasn’t on our bill when we checked out so we had to go back to the restaurant to pay.  The interaction between the hotel and the restaurant definitely needs improvement.

Our room rate was $158/night.  That seems reasonable during the summer but I thought it was high for November since they were only @ 25% of capacity.

Although there is some room for improvement I still like the place a lot and will definitely stay here again.

Great Room

This was an ok stay. The room was nothing special but was comfortable and clean. Water pressure from the faucets was terrible. Reception staff were pleasant but took a long time checking in each guest, explaining in tedious, unnecessary, detail how the room key worked.

Good sized car park and fantastic views.

Restaurant was good for both dinner and breakfast.

My multiple stays at the lodge have been marked by some standout features, though a few points are worth mentioning for a comprehensive review.

The front desk staff left a lasting positive impression with their warm and accommodating service, setting a welcoming tone from the outset. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, offering a delightful array of delicious options that catered to various tastes and preferences.

Comfort was not compromised, as the beds provided a truly restful experience, ensuring a good night's sleep after busy days.

However, potential guests should be aware of a couple of considerations. The absence of a mini fridge in the rooms could be limiting for longer stays, and the barn-style bathroom door design brought about some challenges. During my visits, I encountered instances of the door not closing properly or allowing glimpses into the bathroom area. Moreover, the lack of sound insulation meant that activities within the bathroom were audibly shared with others in the main room and even the hallway.

Despite these points, the lodge's welcoming staff, delicious dining offerings, and comfortable accommodations make it a noteworthy choice. The quirks and limitations add to its unique character and the shared experiences among guests.

Charming Lodge with Notable Hospitality and Quirky Flair

A great check in experience with Carol who quickly resolved a booking issue.  She was awesome.  The view from our room (210) was fabulous.  Our only issue was room noise…conversations from our neighbors seemed to bleed through the walls quite easily.  Might want to be prepared here with a white noise generator for best sleep.

Great views and front desk!

This place was a miserable stay. Upon arrival I noticed there was no microwave or refrigerator in the room. Instead there's a single communal microwave for the entire lodge to use downstairs near the front desk. The pool and hot tub were fine but the hot tub is infested with spiders. On day 2 they wouldn't let us into the pool because the door was having issues with key cards and I guess they were too lazy to open the door for people who wanted to swim. The restaurant was fine. Day 2 we had buffet breakfast and after being seated and given initial drinks and our check, the waitress disappeared. Went outside to use the binoculars to view the mountain and of course that was broken as well. I absolutely wouldn't stay at this lodge again, I hated it. The only reason it got 2 stars from me is that the area is absolutely gorgeous.

Stay away 

Perfect view of the canyon and good amenities including a pool and hot tub. Pool is on smaller side. Nice gift shop as well as having the restaurant available. Room was good, had all that was expected and we were pleased with the trip and the service! People working were very helpful. Maps were available.

Great

Good room, nice tv and bed. The restaurant has decent food as well. I had Canyon view which was nice. The door on the bathroom was kind of weird though. It slid and I couldn't figure out any way to lock it. I wish we'd had a chance to see the pool though. Snowstorm came and we left early at 6 AM to try to beat it.

It's nice

The Blackwater Falls State Park Lodge has been renovated and reopened one year ago. Unfortunately, I did not get a full-room picture and the photo currently on this page is outdated.  Everything is new and in excellent condition. 

The beds are very comfortable.  Great mattress and linens on the bed made the bed quite snuggly.  Pillows were disappointing but we now travel with our own pillows and we were able to sleep soundly.  The decor is very nice and the room and lodge in general were very clean.  The bathroom has a large shower stall that replaced the tub that was previously there.  I know some folks want bathtubs but we were delighted to see just a nice big shower stall.  There is a large-screen TV on the wall.  The supplies in the bathroom are nice quality -- great towels, nice shampoo, adequate hair dryer.  The staff were all wonderful from check-in to check-out.  The view from the room is spectacular.

The room we had (king bed) was not spacious.  There was a very small table in the corner directly under the heat / air vent that rendered the table useless to sit at comfortably or store papers on.  There is no comfortable chair in the room to sit on, just the two straight chairs at the table. 

There is no refrigerator or microwave in the room, much to my surprise.  There is space available for a microwave / refrigerator cabinet, so I'm not sure why they chose not to include this in the new rooms.  (Having a cabinet would also allow more space for the coffee supplies and would free up much needed surface space on the dresser.)

Outlets are minimal.  Each end table lamp has receptacles, there is one more receptacle available under the window, and two in the bathroom. I wished I had brought my power strip along.  

Water pressure is very weak.  I chose not to shampoo my hair after the first day because it was too time consuming to rinse out the shampoo.  The shower head itself is very high and I could not reach it adjust it.  Perhaps that would have made a difference.  I love a good morning shower but this is more like a drizzle.  Rinsing the soap off was a long process.  

The lodge is very nice to walk around and there are plenty of places to sit and relax.  There is a morning coffee station near the lobby and a large room nearby with couches, chairs, and tables, along with a large fireplace.  The onsite restaurant was very good.  the grounds are beautiful and hiking trails are nearby, one even starts from the lodge parking lot.  Most people come to the lodge for the outdoor experience.  There is plenty to do within the state park.

A very cozy three days

Overall a great experience.

Brand new lodge!

We recently stated at the Blackwater Falls Lodge and were very pleased with our accommodations. The lodge has been renovated (per an article we read earlier this year) and our room was both quiet and comfortable. They have a spectacular view out of their back windows and a lovely backyard where on nice days you can sit and enjoy the view. It backs up to the canyon so the view is really worth seeing.
