It’s a great room for the price, only 70 on a Saturday! The bed was very comfortable. It was actually a bigger room than I expected. The bathroom was so cute, everything was pink. It’s close to downtown for food and not far from hiking trails in Chester. 

Clean and comfortable!

I had Room #12. Don't stay in Room #12 unless they fix it up. It is in such poor condition. Wallpaper peeling off the wall in a huge chunk, poorly patched holes in the wall, a pair of sneakers that has been under the bed for who knows how long which means that nobody has cleaned under there for a long time. The carpet is nasty, the smell is bad and the refrigerator is up on 2x4s. I assume they are worried about the refrigerator leaking, but there are so many easy ways to monitor that other than the poor job they are doing. It makes you question the actual bed, which is the one thing that was almost okay. But you can't trust the cleanliness of anything given the shape of the room. To the owners - Take some pride in your place and fix it up!

Yuck

Since I have been in school, I have traveled from New Haven to the Berkshires regularly during the summer for the arts happenings. Was looking for a place to stay overnight after visiting the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. Due to booking at the last minute, everything closer to the festival was booked (not that there is much in the way of accommodations in Becket).

Upon check-in, no one was in the office but a woman yelled at me across the parking lot, "Can I help you, honey?" The whole check-in experience left me feeling less like a customer and more like an unwanted visitor. At the desk, I was told that no nonsmoking rooms were available and that I booked a smoking room. Not understanding how nothing else was available when my car was the second one in the parking lot. In any case, I took what I was told was available without arguments.

I guess the word "clean" that was used in the other reviews is relative? My room was dirty. There was food and tagging (yup, graffiti!) on the ceiling. The WiFi signal was very weak (one bar) and I had to use my phone's hotspot. The furniture was very old and threadbare in places. I usually work at a desk but was scared to use it. The chair was worn and the bed seemed cleaner, honestly. The sheets were still damp, which was yucky, especially given the overall condition of the place. The bedspread had holes torn in it in addition to cigarette burns. Needless to say, there was the smell of cigarette smoke and burn holes in the sheets, mattress, and curtains. The cover had been pulled off the thermostat exposing what I believe is mercury inside, which is poison and a no-no for public places with children.

This motel didn't feel safe for a woman traveling alone. The lock on one of the windows facing the back of the motel was broken.

Nothing within walking distance of the motel. Downtown Westfield isn't far but appears to be mostly mom-and-pop shops. I visited the Holyoke Mall, which is about a 20 minute drive from the motel. They have a Target, Hobby Lobby, and Macy's. A dated but seemingly thriving mall.

Quiet night.

The kicker happened the following morning. I was putting my luggage in the car and the woman who checked me in was cleaning rooms. She stopped me and was telling me how to book a nonsmoking room for my next stay. I politely told the woman that there were other things wrong with the room and I would probably not be back. 

When I took the room key to the office, a man was at the counter. I gave him the room key and he proceeded to tell me about how I booked a smoking room. I told the gentleman that honestly there were other things wrong with the room - that it was substandard even for the price point, there was graffiti on the ceiling, etc. The gentleman continued to talk about smoking v. nonsmoking rooms. I told the gentleman that he was still talking about the smoking v. nonsmoking issue but there were other problems with the room and I reiterated how it was substandard. I told the gentleman I took pictures and would put them on Tripadvisor. His attitude then turned on a dime. "GET OUT OF HERE!", he immediately started to holler at me. "I ONLY WANT NICE CUSTOMER AND YOU NOT A NICE CUSTOMER! GET OUT!"

I do not know what possessed this man to feel that he could start yelling at me like that. Perhaps he is just used to treating women like that or the current zeitgeist is having an effect on people. I did nothing to deserve getting thrown out of the motel office. I did not raise my voice to the gentleman and my tone wasn't argumentative. I was just telling him the truth. I told the gentleman I would be making a police complaint against him.

In repeating what happened to someone in town, I was told, "I could have told you not to stay there."

If you are looking for accommodations in this hotel class, the Motel 6 in Chicopee is cleaner and a bit cheaper.

The experience of a lifetime for just $70!!!

The Elm Motel is pretty basic, but a good value for it's modest cost. Rooms were clean, wifi was offered and the TV was updated to a flat screen that could take HDMI input from our phones for our own movies. For those on a budget, a great place to stay.

Classic 50's/60's Motel, Clean & Updated

Small room with inadequate heating.  It's either on full blast, or nothing at all.  Woke up several times just to warm the room up.  Musty odor when you first walk in.  Very outdated.  Wouldn't want to spend another night there.
