What a huge and incredibly sad disappointment for us and our kids. This was supposed to be our New Years Eve treat, and the kids were so excited when we booked this place a few weeks prior to our New Mexico road trip. They asked about it every few days for weeks and couldn’t wait to spend New Years on a farm. Then THE DAY BEFORE our booking, I got a voicemail from Enya telling me they had double booked our cabin and our reservation was cancelled. The day before?? Canceling our 3-night confirmed stay when we are in from out of town with little kids and you leave us with no place to stay in Taos on New Years? And this woman Enya is the one who advised to book this specific cabin when I had called and asked which of the three available cabins was best. She decided to cancel our reservation because the other people had booked it first, but I know for sure there were two others available when I booked, and she refused to cancel those people’s reservations, even though they had booked after us. She blamed the whole thing on a software glitch, which ok I get that (unless she’s just making it up) but she could have tried to make it right by canceling the people who had booked after us. Or at least making some effort to help us find some other comparable option given that she had cancelled our reservation the day before for NYE. Horrible, horrible experience, unlike any booking experience I’ve ever had.

Ruined my kids’ New Years Eve

My mother stayed there before Covid and was very disappointed. No deadbolt on the door, no electric outlet in the bathroom. No phone in room and no cell service. The clincher was that the male owner is RUDE and should never, ever, be near guests. No check-in or welcome. When we finally spoke with the owners, he shooed us away.

Inhospitable

We just returned from 3 nights at the farm celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends.  My daughter and her partner had visited in August and were so happy as to organize this latest visit.  We all gladly accepted.  

We just entered our cabin - there was no greeting or orientation around the farm. 
 While some might enjoy this we found it a little disconcerting.  Our introduction to staff was through a text inquiring about the billing. Our cabin was very quaint and the king-sized bed (unexpected, it was advertised as a queen) was clean and comfortable.  The heating was fine with one mini-split and a fireplace.  And there was cut wood within walking distance, but none prepared for the guest.  We were pretty happy - until we quickly lost hot water and had to resort to using our friend's cabin to shower.  This also, of course, effected our ability to safely wash dishes, which we did anyway in cold water.  We reported this to Megan who apologized and called her electrician who came by, but reported the water heater needed replacing. We also reported to him that the toilet nearly overflowed, but  we were able to plunge it to get it going again.  He explained this is not uncommon in the area, and it may be seasonal.  He thanked us for being understanding, as many, he said, would not have been so accommodating.

I came to NM in the 70's when there were still communes and understand that the little towns outside of Taos are still influenced by this.  While I very much appreciate the history of the farm, and the many touches that encourage you to feel the presence of the artists who inhabited it so many years ago, in many respects the property is still stuck in the 70's. We're in our 70's now and found it a little difficult to adapt to little hot water, very used and often dirty dishes, and pretty old and worn out appliances.  There was no cutting board, only the very scarred surface of a small cabinet which felt entirely too risky to cut upon - we subbed with a plate. The coffee pot worked well, but we discovered previous guest's grounds before using it. And, although advertised on the website, there were no microwaves in any of the cabins that we were in.  Not that big of a deal, but we thought we could easily heat up food rather than bringing out pots and pans. 

For many the history, charm, and solitude of the farm would be very appealing.  But know these things before you go, and prepare to pivot if things aren't what you expected.  I was very happy we had brought up compostable paper plates so as not to be washing dishes in cold water. I was also very grateful to share a few large coffee mugs from friends vs. the tiny cups provided.  We didn't miss cell service, and we could text.  And we were able to access the internet.  So these are all good things, but I did not find it a very relaxing time.  Sadly none of us felt that we would go again.   

We all discussed whether to write this review, noting that the responses had been defensive and that previous reviews, even years ago, had had similar experiences.  but this review is not to necessarily discourage anyone from going to the farm - but just to be prepared for what to expect - or not.

Know before you go

We were amazed.  Everything listed on the website is well more than we expected.  Although we have only been together and traveling for the last 4 years, this is our best vacation by far.  Your own hot tub? Your own sauna? 

The standards were are great as the amenities.  The bedding was by Bamboo, there were plenty of plates, cups, glasses, silverware, towels, etc. We did not expect a dishwasher but were pleasantly surprised. 

Megan and Jennifer were great hosts as well.  They had great advice for hiking, sightseeing, restaurants, and points of interest. 

The sunset and sunrise over the mountains are breathtaking.

Taos Goji Eco is Worth Every Penny

My husband and I took a fall trip to NM and wanted to see Taos.  We stayed at this wonderful old rustic farm!  I loved the cabins! It was so peaceful there.  The owners were so friendly and welcoming.  We picked organic apples that were delicious! We also fed the animals on the farm.  Can’t wait to go back!

This time, I needed solitude, to be held in -and to appreciate- Mother Earth.  I was mesmerized by her noisy vortex of Aspen leaves, spinning like fairy dervishes --to mention the sweet peas' fuchsia songs, and the birds'.. I took away videos and photos-enough to challenge and inspire my painting for years.  My time there was an Humbling, far away from the news or any obligations other than the witness of this beautiful farm under the Sangre De Christo Mountains.  San Cristobal is a Sacred Space.

All at the farm were warm and hard-working!  They were quick to my needs (that were few), while respecting my privacy.  It was my favorite reset/Retreat, Ever.  Some of us hold an imaginary "Shangri-La" in our hearts--this was mine.  

Of practical note, the kitchen was amply appointed.  You must see the hand-crafted tile bathroom (and paintings also by their artist-son) to truly appreciate how it captures the spirits of the cottage-setting.  One of the owners, Elizabeth, noted that New Mexico is known for its Light --and she is Right.  You must visit to take it in.

For me, this very special Place is Medicine, and rivals any Peruvian Jungle's promise of Reveal.  The Aspens, Cottonwoods (?) and towering Pines all Speak.  Your Invitation is to Listen and Receive.  It's Blessings are as crystal as its well-water right out of the tap.  

The family, the WWOOFFers who tend and love this land are stewards to behold.  I could say more but I yield to your Discovery.  I love this place and hope to return many times.

"Artist's Retreat"

Not as pictured. Owner / host is completely inhospitable. The cabin was cold and run down. The playground consisted of mud and a rusty jungle gym set. Don’t expect anyone to greet you or show you the property. Absolutely the worst accommodations I’ve ever booked. 

Dreadful - AVOID AT ALL COST

The location was beautiful out in the rural parts of Taos but during our stay the toilette backed up into the shower preventing any of us from bathing and making everyone avoid using the bathroom except in emergencies. The power also went out in half the house preventing us from using many lights and heaters.  I am not too picky but expect sewage to work and electricity is pretty basic. I tried to contact help but was not able to reach anyone until the morning. There are many other options in the area that are just as pretty and can manage to allow you to pee and shower so I would go elsewhere if I were you.

Missing basics

So my wife and I have traveled all over the world, staying in true 5 star accommodations from Africa, Europe and Asia down to huts in India/SE Asia. We've also stayed in real Eco lodges in Latin America, Asia and Africa.  This place is dramatically overpriced and misrepresenting itself. It paints itself as an eco lodge, but that's really just code for "dirty, no hot water, reckless recycling."  I understand this will make the owners upset, but my intention isn't to trash someone's idea.  The idea is wonderful.  The planning and execution however are lacking, and to charge prices which get close to Hotel Los Poblanos pricing in ABQ?  Shame on you.  It's not off the beaten track - it is if you think cell service is required, but honestly, it's 10 miles outside of Taos down a dirt road.  The Aldous Huxley room is large, but dirty (sponge, coffee maker, shower has no warm water), beds are full of hairs, etc.  I wouldn't recommend this to anyone - I've camped in a tent in a parking lot in Namibia and that was better than this (and 1/20th the price). The grounds are full of trash (old boots on poles, piles of rusty metal seeping into their water supply and piles of reclaimed wood in easy reach of any kids who go exploring). The people were nice, what little we saw of them, but I'd say - look anywhere else, even a budget inn would be better.  They need to spend more money on one cabin at a time, instead of trying to cast such a big net to try to get as many people as possible to pay the "cover charge".  

Not good - pictures are misleading - dirty, unsafe and overpriced. Eco friendly means cheap.

I honestly debated writing a review. I don’t want to give away this secret, and then end up not being able to come stay when we want because it’s so busy.  But I realized that’s not fair to the people that run this place and decided to do the review. 
First off I have to say if you expect perfection or you expect to be staying at a traditional hotel stop right now and just go stay at a motel 6 or something. It is rustic and it is in the middle of a national forest. There are bugs around. It’s a forest. You may see a spider....it’s a forest. There are birds and other animals... it’s a forest. The farm has different animals and the roosters will crow at different times. There is no TV. They have internet but any older phones may not have enough power for it to work. We have an iPhone 8 and lg 6 and were able to listen to Pandora or Apple Music most of the time but did lose WiFi a few times for a little bit. We had no cell service much of the time and couldn’t really make outgoing calls but could sometimes get a text in or out. 
All of the above are some of the reasons we completely fell in love with this place and have already decided on our return trip for the thanksgiving holiday. 
The cabins adorable. Quaint and genuine and just perfect. There’s a wood stove and it puts out crazy heat. You will not be cold. They do have another heat source but we never used it. 
We felt the cabin was the perfect size. My husbands 6”4 and had no problem with it’s size. There’s a tiny kitchen but it’s stocked with everything you’d need. We loved it there so much we chose to go get groceries so we could cook dinner there verses go out. We actually wanted to be there which is unusual. Typically when we go places the hotel is just a place to sleep and clean up but not this place. Now that we know, when we come for our next trip in November we will bring our groceries so we don’t have to leave at all during our stay. 
This place is one where you truly get to unplug and spend quality time together. No distractions. It’s comfortable and just relaxing. The staff is so kind and very accommodating. 
We recommend you bring ground coffee and whatever food you might need for your stay so you can actually enjoy being there too. If you forget anything taos is about 25 mins away and before you get to taos about 10 mins away is a little market you can get some things at but it’s pretty limited so it just depends on what you need. 
If you’re looking for an honest to goodness vacation or little getaway this is the place. We can’t wait to go back!
