I had an amazing stay at Shady Brook Inn. Vernon made our stay so special. He even welcomed us with a birthday cake and bottle of wine for my boyfriend who was celebrating his birthday. The Inn was in a wonderful location. Our unit was beautiful and very comfortable. I would highly recommend the Shady Brook Inn :)

Amazing stay!

The beds/mattresses are all very uncomfortable. The couch with the sleeper sofa are both very uncomfortable.. There is Wi-Fi and internet but we had no cell phone service.  There is no restaurant/cafe. It’s all boarded up and has been for awhile. Where we parked and walking up the stairs to the entrance were slippery with ice.  The kitchen was wonderful and Vernon had provided bagels, fruit, and juice with a birthday cake. Vernon is a delight. Everything was very clean. We felt that since the resort is for sale the owners are just not putting anymore money in to it. We will not be going back. 

Tale of two resorts. 

Joe and I have never had a better welcoming as we did at Shady Brook.  Vernon was waiting for us to arrive outside and greeted us with a smile and handshake.  Vernon even put”Welcome Joe and Rhonda”on the sign outside the hotel. That has never happened to us EVER and we travel all over the U.S.  The room was spotless and so comfortable to spend the weekend.  Thank you for your hospitality. We can’t wait to come back.

Best resort EVER

We have family that lives near Shady Brook Inn and Resort, and after driving by the property many times, we finally booked a three-day weekend in the Enchantment Suite. The Suite, a one-bedroom, was larger than we expected, with a cathedral-style ceiling, private washer-dryer, full kitchen, and ample outlets, with plenty of room in the dining/living area to use the fold-out sofa bed without impeding use of the area. There is generally weak or no cell service in Taos Canyon, which Shady Brook's excellent wi-fi remedies, and while there is no need for air conditioning at this elevation we used one of the several fans available during an unusually warm afternoon (before the evening cool-down).

We have known that the property itself is lovely and the location, situated in Taos Canyon between Taos and Angel Fire, is ideal for accessing the area and stunningly beautiful, but we were blown away by Vernon's warm hospitality as host, unparalleled in our travel experience. I see now from other reviews, which I hadn't consulted before booking, that Vernon's hospitality is consistently shared with all guests. We cannot wait to return and will not make the mistake again of booking anywhere else!

Lovely Property; Extraordinary Hospitality!

Loved our stay at the Shady Brook Resort.  Vern is the sweetest host and was there to greet us upon our arrival.  Although several miles from town and restaurants, the property was clean and cozy.   If you are looking for a quiet location full of fresh mountain air, you have found it at Shady Brook Resorts.  We loved it and look forward to returning.

Vern is the best!

If you’re looking at reviews for this place, doesn’t matter where, there are two constants you’re going to find: really happy customers and - Vernon! Don’t get me wrong, this is a really great property, but there’s no question Vernon and his wife are the heart and soul of the Shady Brook Inn. 

Vernon (the host and property manager) is a singer songwriter, and it sounds like he’s writing just for you every time you talk to him. He is one of the most genuine, hard working, thoughtful, detailed, courteous, cordial, straight forward people I’ve met in a long time. When someone truly cares about what they do, and the people they serve, it can become an almost transcendental experience. If that sounds silly, just read the reviews. You really won’t be able to find one that doesn’t mention Vernon and how he affects everyone he meets.

The property is awesome too. Well built and well maintained, cleanliness and convenience far above average. A chilled bottle of wine was waiting at arrival, along with Vernon’s gracious hospitality. Regular and decaf coffee grounds are waiting to get you through the morning, OJ in the fridge, clean dishes and paper towels ready to go. Lots of little extras that you just don’t find at other places. Comfy beds, several pieces of custom made furniture, it has a unique and homey feel to it that’s really rare.

I definitely wasn’t looking for a place with a friendly catering property manager, just a nice property to stay at a reasonable cost. I found both, and the former turned out to be the real value. Book through the resort by calling them direct, it will save some money and give you a chance to talk to Vernon. There’s no question about Shady Brook Inn that he doesn’t have the answer for. It’s worth the extra drive out of Taos, a living breathing piece of the Enchanted Circe.

Vernon!

Our family booked Shady Brook after the cabin we had booked in Angel Fire cancelled on us. We were are so glad that happened. The Shady townhouse was beautiful. Clean with fully stocked kitchen. The manager, Vernon, was fabulous. We will be staying there again

Christmas vacation

My wife and I stayed in the Enchantment suite.  We have never had more accommodating hosts than Vernon and his wife and were made very welcome on our arrival.  Prior to arrival we were sent a very detailed information package and Vernon assumed his responsibility as host from the time the reservation was made.  On top of that the units are spotlessly clean and everything has been thought of down to the smallest detail.  I cannot speak highly enough of Shady Brook and would have no hesitation recommending it to anybody and would always stay there again.  Thank you Vernon.

A long weekend on the mountain

Stunning!  Exceeding our expectations- came for a quick weekend getaway and didn’t want to leave.  Vernon greeted us upon our arrival and made it special.  Gave us the grand tour.  I was disappointed that our trip ended so quickly I was really looking forward to hearing his music.  Super clean and reasonably priced.  If you are looking for a quiet weekend getaway in the mountains and away from the city bustle this is the place! We plan on coming back but renting for a week :). Thank you Vernon for the wine and the great atmosphere and comfortable place to stay.  Ps this place is just a 25 min drive to Eagle nest 

Fishing

We stayed in the Kiva Suite and had a great visit. This was our second trip to Shady Brook.  The property is immaculately clean, and Vern is one of the best hosts we've experienced in world travel.  The kitchen has everything you would need.  I forgot to pack Thyme for a recipe and Vern brought me some straight away.  The location is fabulous, and Vern and his wife Debbie really want you to enjoy your time there.  So many hosts these days are absent, or they are trying to nickel and dime the traveler.  Vern is fabulous.  We travel with our dogs, and they were also made welcome with a reasonable pet fee!  We will be back again.
