Colonial Gardens B&B is a gem nestled close to the living museum of Colonial Williamsburg. Angela, the warm and welcoming owner/proprietor, goes above and beyond with her local knowledge, steering us to fantastic dining spots and must-see attractions. The B&B's decor perfectly captures the colonial charm, creating a cozy atmosphere that complements the area's rich history. The beds are heavenly - I've never slept so well away from home! We loved the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms. We also enjoyed the comfortable common living room area. The breakfast area is picturesque, with big windows and a view of the serene trees on the property. Delicious breakfast and great conversations with Angela and Theresa round out an exceptional stay. If you're visiting Colonial Williamsburg, look no further than this delightful home away from home.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ We will be regular guests thanks to how nice a place it is.

A gem of a B&B. Brings back fond memories of what a B&B should be!

I had never stayed in a bed-and-breakfast before, my wife convinced me that it would be fun. Upon arrival we met the innkeeper, Angela. She was very personable, a fantastic cook very knowledgeable of the area. And an all-around great person. 
The room was perfect, and could not have been better. We really enjoyed our three nights there. 
We will gladly go back again

A perfect place to stay

Angela is a wonderful hostess. Very clean and lovely place to stay. Super delicious breakfast and wonderful fellowship with Angela.  Cleanest place in Williamsburg. Great location. Nice area to walk in mornings. 

Wonderful

We booked and paid in full for the use of the entire Colonial Gardens B & B in early November for our daughter's outdoor wedding in December (when you marry a Navy man things are done more on the military's schedule).  Our daughter has a dog and it was made clear from the beginning he would be a part of the weekend.  Owner had no issues with it as long as he stayed off the furniture in the living room area downstairs which he did yet she repeatedly blamed the dog for issues in areas he wasn't even in.  Some family members arrived on Thursday, Dec. 15 and the house was not decorated for either Christmas or a wedding and containers of decorative items were out all over the living area.  Saturday, the day of the wedding, was tense from the outset and not due to bridal nerves. The owner originally included all family for breakfast and late Friday night said no one could come if they weren't physically staying there.  Mind you, there were only 13 guests total, 5 staying elsewhere.  One of the groom's brothers worked overnight in Maryland and drove straight to the venue only to arrive at the B & B late morning to be rather rudely told to find somewhere else to go and not come back until 2:30 for the 3 p.m. wedding instead of asking us who he was and if we minded his presence.  The owner was clearly anxious and had unpleasant interactions with both of my daughters, the photographer, and me that were not indicative of an experienced bed and breakfast host.  It was unfortunately cooler than normal that day and the reception was to be held on the small front porch with little room to mingle and with no one allowed inside the B & B while dinner was being prepared.  The owner finally allowed us inside after many complained of being cold.  Dinner was nearly two hours late with no updates or reasons given then was only a mediocre meal.  The owner finally told us Sunday morning about having oven problems Saturday.  We wish she would have said something at the time instead of leaving us all wondering.  The downstairs guest room also served as the public restroom on Saturday yet was never cleaned, straightened up, etc. ahead of the wedding even though we were told it would be.  We had no clean towels for guests or for our own personal use Sunday morning.  Parking is very limited.  The yard was not cleaned up for the outdoor ceremony which included lots of dog poop.  There was supposed to be a "crew" to help the owner the day of the wedding with moving furniture, etc. but it was primarily my husband and other family members who did so along with the photographer.  The sound system was not good and we could not hear anything clearly, music or the officiant, until we moved and stood closely around the couple.  

All told, little of what was discussed and agreed upon in the initial proposal and conversations came to fruition.  Clear communication was sporadic at best and often changed.  The owner seemed stressed and frazzled from the beginning while going overboard to present as welcoming and friendly.  The home and setting is beautiful, my daughter's bouquet was made by the owner and was amazing, and the officiant did a wonderful job but sadly, the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired.

Pretty setting, but...

Absolutely sets a new standard for my wife and I, who have been traveling and utilizing B&Bs for years. Our room (Rhododendron Room) was spacious, beautiful, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Location was fine, just a few short minutes from colonial Williamsburg. But the real jewel was our hostess, Angela, whose friendliness and terrific breakfasts make a great place a fantastic place. And for the dog people among you, be sure to ask for an audience with Hank, the very friendly and very vocal basset hound. For those of you who are not dog people, don't worry – you likely won't even know there's a dog around. Angela, thank you again so much for making the last weekend of our vacation the most memorable part of it.

Sets a new standard for B&B experience.

Please be careful about booking at this place.  My husband and I booked a trip through another vendor that paid this owner 7 months in advance of our trip (scheduled for May 2022).  Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip.  Of course we could not get a refund from the vendor as they paid the owner at booking.   We have made multiple attempts to obtain a refund from this owner over the last few months.  She keeps saying she will send the refund but never does.

Failure to refund

Stayed at Colonial Gardens Williamsburg for our 30th anniversary in 2017.  Stayed at a different B&B in Williamsburg in 2018, and it was a disappointment (see review for Cedars of Williamsburg.). So, we decided to revisit Colonial Gardens this year.  This is a lovely home, with lovely grounds, even in the winter.  The public areas are warm and inviting, and the four guest rooms are elegant without being pretentious.  When we arrived, however, it was somewhat strange to find a note on the front door with my name.  The note included instructions and a welcome message.  Apparently, we were the only guests for that evening, and the hostess was going to be a tad late.  The note said to make ourselves comfortable, so we did.  I must mention that we were upgraded to the Primrose suite, even though we specifically booked the Library on the first floor, because stairs are a challenge.  We managed to climb the stairs without incident, and were very pleased with the Primrose.  Found out later that contractors were behind on work on the Library, which is why we were moved.  My only complaint, but more just a concern, is that I thought we shyhave been notified of the change, since I was very special to why we wanted to be on the main level.  Within a short time, Salem, our hostess, knocked on our door and welcomed us.  Salem is a lovely and charming young woman, and made us my favorite breakfast . . . eggs Benedict.  Breakfast was perfect, and I pride myself on knowing perfect Eggs Benedict.  Although part of the charm if a B&B is meeting other guests, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure to have the house all to ourselves.  Wanted to book two nights next December, but the can only book nine months out.  I will be calling Colonial Gardens next April for sure.  Sorry for being so wordy, but know that this is a beautiful property and we strongly recommend you try it if you are in the Williamsburg area.

Celebration of 32nd Anniversary

Incredibly clean and neat rooms, delicious breakfast, and friendly staff! The inn is only a few minutes from the downtown area, which was perfect for us. My husband and I spent most of our stay touring the colonial area. Tons of great restaurants and shops nearby too, the innkeeper had quite a few recommendations. We would definitely stay again

Will visit again!

My fiancé and I had never been to a B&B, and we are so glad that this was our first! The staff was so kind, very helpful, the breakfast was beyond delicious, and made you feel like royalty!! We loved the sunroom and the checker board that stays out for guests to play. We stayed in the Rhododendron Suite and it was so comfortable with plenty of space to just relax, and enjoy each other’s company. We will most definitely be staying here when we come back to Williamsburg! Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for people to come and visit!

Simply Wonderful 

This place looks very different from pictures presented on the web. It is a small house 5 minutes driving from center of Williamsburg. You definitely need a car! We stayed in a suite, king size bed was pretty comfortable, a cot provided for a third person not so. Bathroom was kind of outdated, as the whole furniture in the room. Shampoo and soap was not provided when needed if used (nit during our 7 day stay). Eventhough we were supposed to have a breakfast, we did not have one in 7 days, as we wanted to have it on our first day, but was refused to us with reasoning that it is served at 9.00. We came for breakfast at 9.25 though. Just strange... Our overall impression was that we would not stay there again if not forced...
