As a Choice Hotels frequent flyer I've stayed here a night or two annually since it was the Fern Hotel. My expectations were always low based on the price and it used to be 'good enough' for a cheap night's sleep, but I'm afraid it's jumped  the shark. No soap in the room (had to ask for one at the front desk), the blanket was too short and the sheets are now the consistency of Kleenex. Hardware sticking out from under the box spring found my ankles on a couple of occasions. I initially thought that replacing the pitri dish carpeting with laminate flooring would be a good thing until I discovered that the floor hasn't seen a mop in a couple of years. Stay someplace else. Trust me.

Deteriorating Fast

You would be better off sleeping in your car than this dump.  Covid is the least infectious disease you have to worry about while staying here. If you enjoy mold on the ceiling and garbage on the floor, then this is the place for you.

Should have known better.

We come up for the river kings hockey as our family is heavily involved and since we do not have anyone that lives in this town we have to travel. We are in search of hotels when the river kings are at home so we decided to stay here. Extremely disappointed at the disrepair of the rooms as they do not look like anything comparable in the pictures that are on the website. We chose this hotel as well because they are a choice hotel and what a shame this was. The old saying goes you pay for what you get and this hotel is a disgrace to choice hotels. Choice hotels should be ashamed that this is even one of their properties. From the constant running toilet, to the sink being dirty, to the very stained up mattresses, to the constant in and out of what I would say would be drug dealers or possible prostitution. This hotel is not worth the one star nor is this hotel a family hotel. What a complete disgrace. We will not be staying here again.

One is a gift

Where to begin, from rude check in staff to dirty smelly rooms, to drug dealers and hookers everywhere and the desk staff could care less if you bring it to there attention. Come on Econo you respresent a choice hotel and Choice should really step in and take that flag from you as it is an embarrassment of a facility.

A 1 isn't even worth it.

We are in town for the State Cross Country meet. I am a coach supervising high school athletes. We arrived at this hotel around 4:00pm, dropped off our things, and left to have dinner. Two adult males were going in to the room across from us when we left.  When we got back from dinner around 6:30, there were two different men outside the door of the same room.  We went down to the pool for half an hour and when we got back to our rooms there were yet more men going in and out. From inside our rooms we started to hear yelling and doors slamming. They were screaming and swearing about people owing them money. I told my kids to stay in their rooms while I went to the front desk to report this and ask to be moved to a different floor. I was told this would not be possible.  The manager did not seem very concerned or willing to address this. I told her we would be leaving.  When I went back to get my kids the door to the questionable room was wide open. At a glance it looked more like people were living in there rather than just visiting, and there was suddenly an overwhelming smell of marijuana.  From inside my room I called my kids and told them to pack up. While they were doing so, I heard still more yelling and swearing in the hallway.  I looked through the hole in the door and saw multiple men leaving the room with large black garbage bags.  I actually had to tell my teenage kids to wait at their doors with their bags, and watch for a safe moment for us to leave without encountering these men. 
When checking out I told the manager what I had seen and that I would recommend she call the police. I got a strong sense at this point that she knew what was going on and had no intention of doing anything about it. I did get my check back...so there’s that.
Because of the State Meet in town, there are no other hotels within an hour with rooms available. I do not regret leaving at 8pm without a plan.  I would rather have driven 2.5 hours home and got up early to come back for the meet in the morning than stay here another minute. 
IF YOU VALUE YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF YOUR KIDS, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL—NOT EVEN AS A LAST RESORT. YOU WOULD BE SAFER SLEEPING IN YOUR CAR.

DO NOT STAY HERE! DANGEROUS! DRUG DEALERS HANGING AROUND!

 This hotel is always clean and convenient for when I visit the area. You cant beat it for the price.  Having a pool, hot tub, and free breakfast. The staff is helpful and happy to help. It could use a little updating but overall we will stay here again next year

Best deal in town

5 Star rating purely off of the efforts of Jennifer, and Raymond. They work their tails off. I say thank to them both. They really work hard. Both are very dedicated. They should be appreciated by the owner. Would like to see more employees there to give them some relief. Can tell for sure they were both exhausted. Thank you both for making my weekend stay enjoyable

Water Ski Weekend. Winter Addition

My friend and I stay there every once in a while.  This used to be the Fern Hotel, but was recently bought out.  Not many changes.  Has a bathtub/shower, fridge/micro.  Needs updating, and has a breakfast that varies from fair to good. there weren't many people there when we stayed and as a result the breakfast was a bit meager. But all in all we'd stay again when in the area. Price is right.

once in a while

Choice Hotels should be ashamed!  This place is run down & needs major updating.  On arrival the check in person warned us the key card entry system for outer doors was difficult to use.  We decided to go to our room & try the key there first, it would not work.  We went to the desk & no one was there so I dialed zero & the fellow did come quickly & switched our room & was quickly up to the old room to repair the door.  We decided to park in back of building & that door was no problem except for the fact someone kept putting rocks there to prop the door open!  No security system to sound an alert door is propped open.  I also noted a lack of good signage to direct you to rooms, lobby, etc.

Our room smelled sour on entering & I discovered why when I found the shower curtain to be folded over at bottom edges/corners & nasty, dirty water trapped in it.  I bought a can of Lysol & sprayed it down before using it.  There were cobwebs between curtains & windows & it looked like a child had slimed the windows with greasy fingerprints.  The headboard of my queen size bed had a piece broken off.  There was no TV guide or any way to know what stations were available for TV & the remote was filthy!  I sprayed it with germ killer & wiped it down.

The breakfast area & breakfast are a joke.  The area is very small, the milk for cereal is a gallon jug of whole milk, no choice of skim or even 2%.  The scrambled eggs/bacon, etc. are not able to be kept warm long in the buffet set up provided.  There was a reasonable choice of yogurts, but, no fresh fruits.  The only coffee here was regular and creamers were in old, plastic cartons with a communal plastic spoon.  There was no tea or hot water available.  They did have a juice machine with apple and orange juice & the orange juice was very good.  They did have a few slices of bread, some plain, blueberry, & raisin bagels for toasting & butter and cream cheese spread in individual cartons available & a toaster.  There was also a waffle maker & batter.  There were no napkins, only a roll of paper towels meant to be in a restroom paper towel dispenser.

Since the place seemed so run down & not too clean, I made sure to keep shoes on at all times.

When I booked, I thought we were going to be at Sleep Inn which was built just a few years ago & that name had changed.  We stay in Rapids yearly, but, I am not familiar with numbers of buildings on the road & I would not have chosen to stay at this hotel.  Apparently Sleep Inn had a water main break & has been closed for months which explains why it did not come up to chose from when I was making reservations.  We previously stayed at AmericInn, but, after they changed hands the Trip Advisor reviews were bad.  I think we will take our chances there next year.

My husband did speak with the young couple who take care of the place and they were very friendly and helpful when called upon.  They can only do so much with an old, run down hotel & poor upper management.  Get your act together Choice Hotels!



No longer The Fern, now Econolodge

We stayed here while in town for a Trapshoot. It is pretty dated which wasn’t a huge deal but our room wasn’t clean. Someone or multiple someone’s have smeared snot on the walls. In the bathroom, common area, by the door. Gross. The carpet was very dingy, we kept our shoes on. Our room was very dark, there were no lights on the ceiling. Breakfast was a very odd experience. The milk available for cereal was just one single gallon of whole milk in the fridge which was almost empty. Nobody at the front desk. I think I saw one employee, she set some personal items down, went into a locked room behind the desk and then came back out and sat on the couch and watched tv. No refilling or breakfast items. Ok for one night in a pinch, but wouldn’t go back.
