Stayed for 3 nights.  Got a very good deal.  The only problem was the hot water in the shower.  After turning it on, it came out scalding hot, then by the time that you get it adjusted, you have approximately 2 minutes of hot water, if you are lucky.

Asked the front desk if this was normal.  She said, no, that she would have the maintenance man check the water heater.  The next morning, we still had the same problem.  So, room 25 has limited hot water in the shower.

Other than the hot water problem and being able to hear everything from the room next to you, (possibly from little insulation, and cheap doors, ) it is a nice place to stay. 
Yes, it's old, but it's still o.k. to stay in. 
I don't think that there should be a 10.00 fee for left dishes, as when we got into the cupboard to get a pan, it was lined with grease.  So, they don't know if it was you that left it or someone else.
We have stayed here many times, and will probably continue to do so, as long as we have hot water in the next room.

Hot water problem

Very disappointing!! The cleanliness of the hotel is the responsibility of the house-keeping staff AND the owner of the hotel !! : The staff of this hotel does a good job of cleaning, but they are severely restricted by the owners of the hotel.  Therefore, the floors are filthy, filthy!!  NO ONE HAS SCRUBBED OR MOPPED  the floors for years.  I took a wet paper towel and wiped up a few spots on the floor, and the paper towels came back black, caked with crap.  The bathroom floor is the same.  The hotel is generally run down and ill kept.  Nobody is doing anything to improve on the broken door materials, old paint with bad spots, weather-beaten surfaces, deteriorated deck surfaces, ....old, dingy, smells old and dirty.  Poor lighting in all of the lamps, bulbs are the most dim, dark depressing wattage.  NO extra garbage bags; you have to beg for them.   We will never go back.  You should choose somewhere else to stay and not waste your money on this place.  $234.00 plus fees and taxes.  And now, they charge a booking fee that is defined as a charge for "24 / 7 help presence", and that is a lie, because they only staff the place between 8 am and 8 pm.  That is not "24 / 7" presence.  Just another way to get money.  Greed !!  The owners do not care enough to patch the huge holes in the parking lot.  What a dump !

Bad place to stay !!

We love this place because it has the best beach access in Yachats. On our stay this time, Taylor and Jeff went out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable stay. The fire ring and horseshoe pit are a great touch. They now have a free continental breakfast, which is great considering the local market is has high prices. This is a great place to stay with your family.

Amazing beach and fantastic service

Directly on a nice beach, which is not crowded. Quiet location. The rooms, almost mini-apartments have a kitchen with large fridge and full stove/oven. The room we had could benefit from a remodel. Safe area.

On the beach

The location on the beach is really beautiful but the snow hotel has gone way down hill that used to be one of my favorite places to stay. The room was dingy and in need of maintenance, neither door would shut or lock properly. Lots of mold growing in the bathroom and the fan broken. The breakfast they offered didn’t start until 930 and then was a series of prepackaged items. I won’t stay here again.

Unpleasant

Looking at the reviews here it looks like something happened to this property in 2021. Change of ownership perhaps? The reviews went from generally very good to generally bad. The room was very dated and spare, but ok. The kitchen was ok. The room was clean, but had a strong mildew smell. The room was cold because the only heat came from a very small space heater that could not keep up. The beds weren't completely shot but they were not great. The grounds are poorly maintained and have tripping hazards and open access holes a pet or child could fall into. Beach access is treacherous but the beach itself is nice. Despite saying they take Visa I had to use my Mastercard because they kept saying my card didn't work(I verified my card was working an hour later). As an added bonus, there is no cell service here so good luck dealing with that refused credit card. If you look at my other reviews you will see my reviews are generally positive, but I will not be back to the Silver Surf and I recommend that you do not stay here.

Don't Trust The High Rating

They whole place has all the appeal of the Bates motel except that it’s way trashier and rundown.  Thought it would be okay for one night with two kids but the front door wouldn’t even lock unless you read the sign that told you to push the door in firmly before you lock it but then when you do it doesn’t lock because the frame is weathered and rotten.  Checked out extra early but still left housekeeping a $10 tip after we cleaned up most of the mess from TODDLERS and then received a voicemail from the manager saying we were disgusting and banned from the property?For some reason they only accept cash oh yes because they are probably going to try to keep your bank information and leave threatening voicemails.  Good place if you’re lonely and want to die perhaps cause it was pitiful gross and surprisingly rude

Really enjoyed the ocean view and easy walk to the beach. We were happy to have a kitchen to cook a few meals. Our room was clean and our bed was comfortable. Had a difficult time with the WiFi continually dropping off, even though the box was outside our door. Also had a rough time with the key pad entrance to our room. Sometimes, it worked, and sometimes, it didn't. Management was great: friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They had an awesome calico cat.

Good time in Yachats 

The location is excellent with reasonably easy beach access and the beach is gorgeous. There are two high illumination lights that are great for night access. It’s close to town and we were happy with the soundproofing as there were folks next to us and over us and no problems. We were in a pet friendly room with a great deck but it didn’t look anything like the photos.  Our room was really worn. Only one standing lamp so no bedside lamp and only comfortable place to sit was the bed. Carpet was badly frayed and no carpeting would better as we tracked in a lot of sand and pine needles. Was grateful for the broom as I swept every day. Towels were good kitchen is tiny but adequate and they should do an inventory and add some items. YES I would stay again as the price and location is excellent for what they provide. If you’re looking for fancy this isn’t it. If you are looking for something well located with great ocean views and good beach access and pet friendly this is it!

Good and average!

We stayed in the Sterling room; this is their "premier"/fanciest room. Fantastic!

The suite: One king bed, kitchen, sofa, love seat, two fireplaces, two bathrooms (!!), full size dining table. Very spacious, open floor plan for the common area. Wood-look floors. Very clean. Two separate balconies with a privacy wood wall between them; 2 plastic chairs in each area. The 2 bathrooms were basic but a good size. And, again, 2 bathrooms! This allowed Hubs and I to be getting ready in separate bathrooms so we could get ready twice as fast (very important to allow maximum sleep time before getting ready for our 5am fishing trip). A full 5-drawer dresser in the hallway. Cute decor (not just framed pictures) throughout.

Bed: A little firm, but fine. Several pillow options. Bedding was fine. Bedspread instead of the common sheet/blanket/sheet combo at other hotels.

The grounds: It looks run-down when you drive up, like a little mom-n-pop place. Liked the teal/turquoise color; obviously doesn't "really" matter, but just made it cute and happy feeling. Pool was closed when we were there. There was a grassy area on the beach side of the rooms, with a great view of the ocean. The access to the beach was quick and easy. If you don't want to go down to the beach, they have benches on the edge of the lawn so you can sit there to admire the view. They have a spotlight pointed at the beach after dark, so you can still see the waves. No cell service for us (t-mobile), but they had wifi, so we could still do wifi calling and bring up the internet if needed. I believe there was a small breakfast in the morning, but we didn't make use of it. Adequate parking. The beach is pretty empty as there isn't a lot else around (private residences on each side, and a B&B a few properties down). They have a memorial garden if you need a quiet time of reflection. The allow pets in some rooms.

The staff: I can't remember who checked us in (it was a lady), but she was lovely. Discussed local eateries that she enjoys and other local attractions. 

This has become our go-to for our couple getaways, especially when we want to just stare at the ocean and read. Not really convenient to our usual places on the coast (Lincoln City, Depot Bay), but our beach stays have become much more about getting away rather than shopping and the casino, so the remote location is great. There's plenty of room for us to bring our teen as well when we want a family stay.
