We stayed in this hostel for several nights and had an amazing stay. The staff was amazing, super friendly and super helpful! The hostel was clean and the rooms are good (although I had never seen 3-story-beds before). The atmosphere in the hostel is really great and it is nicely decorated. They also have a roof terrace with BBQ. The location is good; it’s located in a really nice area of Montevideo.

Located close to the old town, Planet Hostel is not at all a bad place to stay. I was there in winter and found the rooms warm and cosy. I would suggest a lengthy brush-up on your Spanish skills before saying here; between the cute, eyebrow-ring wearing young lady and the pleasant older woman who were working there, neither could understand much in the way of English. But then, it is Uruguay. Come prepared anyway. The staff were very helpful and kind. Negatives: the hot water was a bit on the occasional side and wi-fi, while strong in the common areas, it was not at its best in the rooms. I would stay here again.

Good location and cosy.

I stayed only one night in Planet Hostel but in that short time was very impressed by the staff. Reception were friendly and extremely helpful, giving advice about activities and transport. The room, bathroom and common area were clean, the sheets were fresh, the wifi was reliable, and the lockers were big enough for a whole bag. Breakfast was basic (bread, jam, tea, juice) and fresh. I recommend this hostel and would stay there again on a return trip to Montevideo.

Recommended for the exceptional staff and nice hostel.

We stayed in a twin room shared bathroom which cost us US$55/night. The room was basic but clean. It would have been perfect except that a heat wave was going through Uruguay and there was no fan! It was really hot in our building, but I think the dorms might be air conditioned (there are two buildings that make up this hostel). The communal facilities were great and it is in a fantastic area of town. We caught a bus there from the main bus station and that was really cheap and easy. The staff were great, very helpful. Breakfast is a toast, fruit and coffee affair, which is perfect. I would definitely recommend staying, just ensure they have a fan/air con if its hot weather.

Stay: 02/2009

I was able to take a bus from the airport into the city and the hostel was w/in walking distance and very easy to locate.

The staff was nice, the room was clean and there was warm water to shower.  In the morning, there was breakfast (you had to serve yourself though, don't sit and wait for anyone to serve anything on the table).

It is w/in walking distance to most everything and even the grocery store.

I would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to Montevideo.

Nice location

We stopped here for a night - good location but not in great condition. Bathroom/bedroom clean but everything old and could use a major refresh. Kitchen (especially upstairs) terrible. Staff (especially Andrea) were very nice though.
