Located  near  the Old City,  we loved that we could walk  everywhere.  The hotel was quiet during our stay;  we seemed to be the only guests.  Breakfast was freshly made and plentiful. Our room had everything we needed, including  Good WiFi.

Met all of our needs

Unable to leave the country due to the lockdown, we decided venture to Khiva. While most of the hotels were closed, Qosha Darvoza remained opened for business. 
The owner, Mr. Mansur is one of the most  friendliest and helpful individual I've come across in my travels. The customer service was beyond excellent. Mr. Mansur was even kind enough to cook us the local Plov ( rice Pilav) dish which was "Super Yakshi"! 
He was also kind enough to go out of his way, transporting us to and from the train station, bringing us on a tour around the city and even a wedding event! He really made us feel "at home" in Khiva and at his hotel. He even bough us lunch on our last day, at a restaurant that cooked fresh Carp (locals call it Sazan". 

The hotel itself is right at the outer gate to the historical city of Khiva. "Qosha" means Twin and Darvoza means "Gate" or "Gateway". From the hotel, it is a pleasant 5 minute walk to the Inner City gate (North Gate) of Itchan Kala.

The setting and "feel" of the hotel exemplifies the historical city. As you enter, you come into a courtyard which has rooms on all sides. In the middle there is a well and one the far side, a nice rooftop terrace which has tables, chairs and 360 degree views.

I highly recommend this hotel for its staff friendliness, location, cleanliness and professionalism. 

Most importantly, they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome!

A nice place to be...

Qosha Darvoza is located right at the entrance to the old city of Khiva and it is only a 5-minute walk to get to the heart of the old city. It is a very well designed boutique hotel which gives you the experience of staying in a unique Uzbek residence. The rooms are spacious and the design is unique to the building as a whole. It really feels like home. The only things which needs to improve is the internet service which was not accessible in some parts of my room.

Great Hotel

Arriving late in Khiva we were treated to a delightful welcome here!
I ended up in a family room which was   4 rooms (a king bed, single room, communal hall area & bathroom). 
Spotlessly clean and well serviced.
Breakfast was good. Fairly light with eggs cooked for you. Simple yet sufficient.
The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the old city but close enough to almost be a part of it. It was nice just to get out at night.

Great little secret find!

Great staff who speak good English.  Large, clean rooms and bathrooms.  Great breakfasts.  It's a short walk from the hotel to the old city (about 5 minutes) in a very safe area of the city. I'd thoroughly recommend the hotel

Excellent hotel

Building with character with a 10 minute walk to the North gate of the old town.  Our corner room was large and clean.  Everything worked - air con, fridge, shower etc.   Very good breakfast served to you outside in the courtyard.  WiFi but not in our room needed to go outside into the courtyard.   Some staff spoke good English the rest spoke enough to get by.  Staff lovely and couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming.  A relaxed place to stay away from the "hothouse" atmosphere of the old town

Great, characterful, place to stay.

Hotel ratings in Khiva are relative and this small boutique hotel did the job well despite the basic nature of the accommodation. The rooms were clean with local decor and was comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the staff friendly and pleasant. It is only a short walk to the North gate and a little longer to the West Gate and normal entrance. Overall great value and comfortable but do not expect full Western Style modern rooms.

Basic But Good Value

An excellent find just north of the walled city (the nearest gate is closed for restoration so access is via the west gate).  My room was comfortable and relaxing---just what I needed after the overnight train from Tashkent---with traditional decoration.  The courtyard, where breakfast was served, was quite cool in the mornings, even in late August.

Service was efficient and polite, with some English spoken.  Definitely worth the money (about US$30 per night) and in hindsight I would have stayed longer.

Double gate, north gate

With the new rail link now open from Urgench to Khiva, the 1224 train from Bukhara is a great way to cover the 450km in air conditioned comfort for only £7.30 (just over $9)!!  It arrives at 1751 and Mansur, the proprietor of Qosha Darvoza was waiting to pick us up for the 3" drive to the hotel!

Clean, comfortable and like the photos!!!  With Mansur and his son, Bobur, looking after us (and speaking great English!) the twin room was spacious along with a well equipped bathroom and the "all important" air conditioning for the 35°+ here in middle of June!

Excellent breakfast served in the courtyard by another family member really relaxing and homely.

Located a few minutes walk from the North Gate of the Old Town and a convenient shop just around the corner (supermarket with more selection including alchohol just under 10mins away to West of Old Town entrance) the hotel is ideally situated.

Across the road a trolley bus service runs every 30" to Urgench - 30km away - (an hours journey but really an insight into real Uzbek life!). The journey costs 11p (14 US cents!) and terminates at the Bazaar which is an experience in itself!.. The trolleybus returns from the opposite side of the road or a taxi back will cost only 40,000 som (£3.70 or just under $5) - walk away if the drivers "try it on" and ask for more - they'll soon run after you once they realise you understand that there are many other "honest" taxi drivers who want your business!!

If in Khiva, definitely the Qosha Darvoza is the place to stay - great value for money with hosts able to look after any excursions or advice/wishes you may have! 

"A little gem in Khiva, Uzbekistan"! 

Qosha Darvoza enjoys a great location near one of the erstwhile gates of Khiva fortress. The old mansion is tastefully restored to match up the whole experience that KHIVA is. Rooms are spacious are provided with all modern comforts. The staff was very helpful and supportive. They also arranged for transfer from Urgench Airport.
