This place was identified for us by our tour operator Audley. We also had a personal guide with us the time we were here. 2 nights 2 days in total.
We were busy all the time doing the boat trips run by the hotel. Coconut matting factory, frog farm, rice pop making and a visit to the Vietcong veteran next door. We also went out on the hotel bikes.
The whole place is a bit rustic but everyone is pleasant and multi tasks although few speak English.
Food is pretty good and so is the service. Everything shuts down about 9pm.
The only drinks appear to be canned beers and some wine which they had difficulty understanding. The white wine was not chilled so we had this the following night after leaving in our fridge. Red is local and pretty rough. 
There is a karaoke bar somewhere in the distance that gets very annoying but shutsdown about 10pm.
The visit to the VC next door is a bit contrived and giving him a donation for being a terrorist seems a bit off putting. Presumably he does his act most nights.

Rustic but pleasant surroundings

We are here at the moment and it is a gem of a place . Our bungalow is very spacious with a very big terrace overlooking the mighty mekong andchascthe biggest bed I have ever seen ! The food last night was very tasty and the family are very welcoming . The pool is good and the gardens very well kept. 

A hidden gem 

Its quite hard to write a review about this place as it is not like any place we have been before and every travel will experience this differently. It is very basic with a simple buisness structure and very few amenities but to us this somehow adds to its charm, warmth and character.
The place is owned and run by a (youngish but) retired couple who have many years experience in the hospitality/tourist trade, who make you feel like you are being invited to their home, which of course your are... its absolutely shoes off, epecially in the public dining area and your private lodge.
The owner grew up here and the property has been developed from a private family homestead to a tourist base by the addition of a simple open sided canopied eating area and a separate fenced garden area housing 7 lodges. Marketing material says 5 but we did see 7 in use by (apparently) European guests. The only access to Coco Riverside is on foot (or on two wheels), luggage is brought in by staff on the back of mopeds and guest walk the uneven pavement for 5 minutes or so to get there (about 300-500m). Pedal cycles are stored at the side of each lodge for free use to explore, but please, fully check yours if using. Our touring bikes were set up and prepared ready for us one morning by the hotel and we just expected them to be fine but hubby found he had no working brakes whilst we were out and had to do a quick 'moving' repair on the go whilst exploring. Good job he's a 'know-how' kind of bloke as i'd have been useless and terrified.

Our lodge was central of the plot and on our first day it was truly serene as we were the only guests on site. In fact, it even felt a lttle 'forgotten' as darkness grew in, but eventually someone came and switch some pavement/wall lights on and it felt cosier. Rooms have a beautiful outlook across the river and feel idillic (which is only marred by the hidden residencies on the opposite side of the river who are passionate about their evening kareoke (like most places in Vietnam).

We did suspect that having guests in neighbouring lodges might detract from the privacy which was bourne out on the second day but not to a great detriment as the lodges are partially staggered. It was very convenient to have the river pier right outside the lodges, both for coming and going, and we enjoyed the varied trips and activities our local guide had planned in conjunction with the hotel using their onsite river boat and driver... it seemed like everything we did was connected to a family cottage industry in some way related to the hotel.  Many of the activities offer a great and deeply personal insight into the local natural Vietnamese people, seeing the palm weaving, coconut rope making factory, frog farming etc and we loved it all. All bar one that is.

One seemingly compulsory activity was to visit the resident Viet Kong War Veteran who lives co-located on the property and is related to the owner. We did not like or enjoy this experience although remained thoroughly polite throughout waiting for it to end. We were timetabled to be escorted to his on-site home at 6:30pm to sit and listen to our guide tell us the history of this veteran Viet Kong who speaks no English. His story was both sad and interesting but not especially unique and could have easily been relayed by our guide without the awkward exchange. The man was gravely injured as a young Viet Kong member and has been dining out on this personal tragedy for 50 years through controlled patronised begging of visiting tourists. As we were guided into his home a money tin was clearly and deliberately set out before us for our donation and once the feigned levity of this 'experience' (and our 'donation') were complete,  I was personally and physically shoved in the back by his wife at the door to hastenen our departure. It was all very contrived and uncomfortable with a veil of hospitality. He clearly loves endlessly telling his limited war stories to hapless tourists but his wife is equally clearly weary of it. Our only regret of this holiday was not advising our personal guide of how deeply uncomfortable we felt about this experience, but it will be fed back to the organisers. Others may not share or experience our discomfort.  Moving on...
The hotel has a pool, its clean and respectable enough but very basic and not particularly inviting. I did have a look as I fancied a swim on arrival, but decided against it and choose to have tea on the veranda instead. Insect bites are a particular risk here (the only place we were both bitten in fact) and strong mosquito repellant is recommented.
Amenities are very limited and very basic. But the place has sufficient charm and character enough to overcome this and ths staff are lovely, partiularly the owner who generously shares his time in the evening with his guests talking and being sociable. The food here was absolutely sublime. We felt like we ate like royalty. It was again simple honest vietnamese cuisine but beautifully fresh and full of flavour. Scores of 100% given to everything we were offered and meal times were offered flexibly around us. Although, it is unspoken but apparaent that it's 'lights out' at 9pm as mornings start early for the staff here and there's no opportunity, facility or expectation of centralised socialial activity. 
I could probably say a whole lot more, but this is one place where I think every travellers experience will be unique (including of the local war veteran) so I leave it for others to experience Coco Riverside in their own personal way. All I will end with is by saying we felt very comfortable, welcome and relaxed here (on the whole) and this short stay was one of our favourite of not only this holiday, but any holiday.



Basic and beautiful retreat far away from the madding crowd.

Me and my friend had an amazing time at the lodge. The place is wonderful and very well maintained. The owner’s sister in law was cooking for us and everything was fresh and delicious. Some of the food coming directly from her personal garden. We were welcomed by the owner of the lodge who invited us to share some moments with his family. Our guide provided us with an amazing experience : bike tour, boat ride, visit of a local market, visit of a coconut factory, visit of a Cao Dai temple. Each time we were introduced to the locals who were happy to chat with us while our guide was translating to help the communication. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. I would love to come back. 

Amazing lodge in the Mekong area

If you want a rural stay enjoying local Hospitality and experiences, this is a great place to do it. We booked a stay with a set itinerary and fully catered with great local food. We went on cycle rides, boat trips and local market. We also had a great interaction with Vietnamese war veteran. It was the perfect balance of activity and down time. I would highly recommend.  This is a hidden gem ❤️
Ignore the 1 star review. Clearly a them problem. They should have gone to an international hotel!

Hidden gem!

This place is very magical; a natural resort; where details are looked after and staff are actually locals of all generations. We got to speak to War veteran, and heard him sing songs about the war; an old lady taught us how to make palm leave roof panels and we learnt how to make rice pops in a house of the local village in the middle of the Mekong jungle /forest.

We visited local markets and got a real flavour of Vietnamese life and hospitality. 

Lovely place to experience the real deal in Vietnamese life! 

From the start we new this was a great find. Staff goes out of their way to assist you and recommend things to see and do. Resort is clean and grounds are beautiful.  Great pool also. Had breakfast and dinner and food and service was excellent.  Thanks to all the staff for making this a memorable trip.

Resort special

Beautiful resort hidden away in a rural area of the Mekong, and the family and our excellent guide (Ken) made us feel very welcome. Their connection and pride of the area added to our experience as we went to the local market, toured local farm, rode bikes etc. Food was wonderful (you won't leave hungry!), and we appreciated the care taken to provide us vegetarian dishes. Would love to go back another time!

A special place in the Mekong!

Peaceful location on a tributary if the nighty Mekong. Incomparable wildlife sounds morning and evening. Superb welcome and attentive staff. A welcome restful change of gear after Saigon. A river trip provided experience of village life, a Cau Dai temple and a factory where coconut La weee processed to make durable ropes and matting. A wondrous location.

Peace and quiet in the Mekong

The coco riverside lodge gave us a truly amazing holiday experience. The surroundings give you a taste of the real Vietnam countryside and the various trips that the lodge organise are equally as authentic and educational. Most of all though, every single member of the team make you welcome and ensure your stay is the very best experience you can expect.
