We stayed a couple of nights here on arriving in HCMC.  We had a double room on the first floor with en-suite.  the room was well sized with a comfortable bed and amenities,  very good value.  But what made the place was the vibe and the staff.  The shack is on a small alley off a main street in central HCMC so it has the benefit of a central location while being away from the craziness that HCMC can be.  The staff were great.  We arrived just as Covid-19 was really kicking in in Vietnam and things were closing down.  This meant we had to change a lot of plans and the staff at the shack were great with help and advice.   There were normally other travellers around in the cafe area too which also provided a lot of help.   We loved this place and will certainly stay here again next time we come to HCMC.

Great haven in the centre of HCMC

We happened upon this little gem while walking around the city. What an awesome little coffee shop! They were so friendly and helped us try several different drinks. We tried banana coffee. Watermelon iced tea. Plus the standard coffee with milk.

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City early in the morning and were able to drop our bags off which was super handy. Received a very friendly welcome and a lemon drink, and given a free map and shown some sights to visit. Really good English and great vibe in the communal area, fairy lights and teas lining the sides of the room. Close to everything but can't hear any of the traffic. Chris helped us book a Mekong Delta tour. Also the breakfasts were amazing - you have to try the coconut coffee! Best drink ever. Room was clean and bed comfy. Nyugen Shack has set the bar high for the rest of our trip!

Central spot, very friendly staff, amazing breakfast

So many great things about this place- location is great, walkable from the War Remnants Museum, some great food places and other sights. The staff were amazing- incredibly helpful with recommendations and organising transport. The rooms were spacious and cool. And the banana coffee for breakfast.. it has started an addiction I am continuing throughout my Vietnam travels. Unfortunately, sleeping was a little difficult here. The beds are hard as rocks and with the slightly bohemian theme, every time you moved the bamboo beds creaked!! We were on the third floor and the window/door out to the stairs had opaque like glass and the light from the stairwell/common area was really bright. Small things, but if you find sleeping hard anyway, you may struggle here. Overall, really good and would consider staying again. 

Great base for exploring HCMC 

We stayed here for 2 days during our time in Saigon. The tea and spirits collection is awesome, and the young guy working there had so much knowledge to share about it. Would definitely come back if we were ever in Saigon again 🙂 

Great little spot in Saigon

I stayed at the shack for 6 nights whilst having my teeth attended to in Saigon, and loved everything about it.  The staff, especially Son, was amazing, utterly friendly, caring and helpful. Son helped me get just about everything I needed sorted: SIM card, transport within Saigon, city tours, massage appointments, onwards travel arrangements finding accomodation, you name it. On top of that he has the most hilarious sense of humour and we shared wonderful conversations and laughs. 
I had the room on the 4th floor with a large and beautiful balcony, which provided a homey sanctuary after many hours at the dentist and exploring the city.
The common area on the ground floor was a welcome and welcoming meeting place for chats with other travellers and sampling the natural medicine concoctions the shack offers.
Amongst the general plastic madness in Vietnam, the shack is mercifully virtually plastic free and environmentally conscious.
I would go back anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend it to solo travellers and families alike.


Lovely oasis in Saigon’s hustle and bustle

Cool bohemian hotel, I can say a lot about it, it's really nice! It's just as the pictures and it has a cool atmosphere rarely found in hotels. It's well designed, and for the price a bargain! I'd stay here again!

Room was comfortable with ac. Everything clean and cheap waters in fridge. Loved the breakfast and the cold coffee. Highly recommend as they are very nice and have an amazing place set up. I stayed in the room with window to the lobby. While you may listen to people it didn’t bother me.

Amazing 

Maxime and his staff introduced us to Vietnam with warmth & over-the-top hospitality! Top notch communication before we arrived, we had no problems for our late night arrival. Bumble down to a superb breakfast and the best iced coffee in Vietnam, our group of 7 could start the mornings nice & slow in the tea room, watching buzz begin outside. Staff arranged our street food tour (vietnamstreetfoods.com), our transportation to Nguyen Shack Can Tho, and gave us lots of good insights on where to eat & visit. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

THE place to begin your Vietnam adventure!

Arrived with 2 grumpy teens in the midst of heat & chaos of Saigon, to a kind welcome, cool drink and lovely rooms. The staff were so helpful during our 4 day stay. Delicious breakfast, though a couple of extra jams for bread would be even better. A couple of little things need fixing in our room, such as light bulbs & sockets. Otherwise just super...and we loved the bamboo decor, plants and amazing range of tea, coffee & rice wine. But the kindness of Son, An & Tam who helped us organise Grab and with phone calls, made all the difference.
