Disappointing from the room pictures we saw. We were upgraded, but cannot imagine what the other room looked like.. Bathroom is just terrible, very old, does not look clean and water gets stuck in the shower so everything gets wet, and there is no towel for the floor. Breakfast is not very good, and very small portions. Staff is however friendly, but would not recommend this hotel even if the location is really good.   

Different from pictures.. disappointing 

Unfortunately we were only staying here for 2 nights as we would love to stay longer. We had a deluxe double room which had two king size beds. The room was lovely and clean, as was the en-suite. There is also a safe in the wardrobe. The staff, Yen and George where so welcoming, and helped us a great deal with our travel and local visits.
The breakfasts were very good.

A hidden gem

Blue River Hotel was very accommodating for my group of 18 people, in the midst of the busy season. From organising airport transfers to checking AC units, ensuring breakfast orders were timely, to changing money at a great rate.

Rooms were clean, Staff are hard working, friendly and couldn't be more helpful.

Helpful friendly staff, clean rooms, central location.

Excellent staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was, the  bed was comfortable and there was hot water in shower. The room was nice but not something unique. The location is ok but a little bit noisy

A value for money place to stay

Check in took over an hour. To get to my room I had to walk through a dodgy massage parlor opposite of the main building. Went to bed early and one of the reception staff tried to enter my room and show it to two other guests, unaware I was inside. And mind you, it was the same woman that showed me the room two hours before. A few minutes later another lady from reception tried entering again and ended up asking for my name. Surely they have a record of it and should know who is in what room. Obviously couldn’t sleep all night as I was scared someone was trying to enter again. Left at 7 in the morning without trying the breakfast. Wasn’t gonna stay there any longer. 

Avoid 

Perfect and lively location. Walking distance to almost major tourist attraction in Ho Chi Minh. The hotel is very cozy, room is clean and smell fresh. Staff is very accommodating and helpful, special mention to Josh, Brie, Lam and the waiter, they are jewels of the hotel. They help you book the grab and assist you to the pick up station. They are very helpful. The hotel is just few meter away to very lively Pho Di Bo Bui Vien Walking Street.

My family is very happy in our stay in this hotel. I am very likely to recommend this hotel.

My Place in Ho Chi Minh

Stayed here 4 nights. The room was nothing like the photos. Size was okay, but shower was weak (but clean). Staff were friendly enough. In the backpacker district, so good to find lots of cheap bars and restaurants. But a good 30-40 minute walk to centre of Saigon. Our room was just above the reception and across from the canteen, so found it rather loud when guests were about.

Its bordering on a 2 star review, bit redeemed by its decent breakfast and ultimately, it is value for money.

Decent

Extremely disappointed. When I booked a "premier deluxe" room it all looked new and clean and shiny on the photo, just what we needed for a romantic weekend. When we arrived I was informed that my room was already given to someone (and that's after they asked me about arrival time by email and I told them the that I'm coming after 11 PM, so they knew we won't have much choice) and was offered a complete rathole instead. It looks like it has been rotting for years. Gaps in the floor are a few mm wide, there are BUGS CRAWLING IN THE BEDS, everything looks and feels old and beaten and dirty. Everything and everyone was beyond horrible except the polite girl who checked us out and the lady who offered us orange juice. Oh, and I got a 10 percent discount which is laughable as the room we got was so much worse (and cheaper, I suspect) than the one I booked.
It's not the first time I've stayed at a beaten and ugly hotel but it's the first time I've got something that's the exact opposite to what I've booked. All comparable hotels I've stayed at are 2x cheaper. This time I booked a nice room, got a rathole and still paid for a nice room. And when we went out after the first night I put the "make up my room" tag on the door handle. When we returned at the evening the tag was turned to "do not disturb" and of course nobody made up our room.
I definitely don't recommend anyone booking a room in this hotel, because if you do, you're in for a nasty surprise and harsh disappointment.

Nothing like the photos, overbooked, ruined a romantic weekend

We stayed at blue river for a care free 3 days.
 I love it. Central but quiet really close to the walking street heaps of tour places. Restaurants, the park a few malls war remnants and the other million things you can and must do in hcmc. Really helpful staff. Good bathroom. OK bed. So so breakfast (bare in mind we were dealing with funny tummies so this impacted breakfast for us) 

Overall.. Super cool...

When in hcmc This is a fantastic place to be!

The hospitality and helpfulness of the staff is worth commenting on - helping booking taxis, finding budget friendly ways for you, helping with recommendations are few of the things. The location is great and you are in the thick of it but still isolated enough to have a good nights sleep. There are many good restaurants nearby and touristy spots. This location also has the advantage of free pick-ups for all day trips by travel agencies. 
The only criticism is the extremely limited range of breakfast items one can choose from.
