Very good budget hotel.

I stayed at the hotel for a total of 9 nights while I visited my son in Ho Chi Minh. He booked me into this hotel because it was just around the corner from his apartment. It was very comfortable and I had all the amenities that I needed. It was good to have such good air conditioning as it was very hot when I visited...this made it easier to sleep at night. The nights were quiet, even though the hotel seemed pretty full and it was a bonus having breakfast as part of the deal. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Very comfortable

I’ve always lived by the old adage, ‘you get what you pay for’, because that way you’re never disappointed especially if you’re at the cheaper end of the market. Every now and then though something that turns out to be just great value gets thrown up at you and you think wow, what a fabulous surprise.  The New Life Hotel is one of those fabulous surprises.  I recently moved to HCMC to work, and knew that I would have to find cheap short term accommodation for a few weeks while I sorted a permanent place.  Not wanting to pay too much, I shopped around and found this on one of the popular OTA sites. I must say even though the reviews were good, at $25usd per night or thereabouts I really wasn’t expecting much. After the first few days however I felt so comfortable I stayed nearly a month. All the staff are friendly and welcoming, most with very good English. The female security guard stood in torrential rain one evening on the edge of the road trying to hail me a cab. Every time she saw me approaching the hotel she was on her feet to open the door for me with a smile and hello. Reception staff and restaurant staff are all delightful, and I only had to ask once for chilli with my pho. The included breakfast is fairly extensive, and although I didn’t eat any of the western options the Vietnamese food I ate was delicious. The few times I had dinner I can say the same, everything was fresh, beautifully cooked and delicious. The rooms are quite well appointed, there is a small mini bar selection (beer and soft drinks) jug, coffee, tea etc. The bed and pillows are first class, super comfortable for westerners with good quality cotton linen. The room I occupied was also very quiet, although when I asked about larger rooms (I tend to get cabin fever) I was told that the available rooms at the front of the hotel could be a bit noisy so I stayed put.
I pondered about a five star rating, but frankly in terms of value for money this fantastic little place deserves every one. Can’t recommend New Life Hotel highly enough.


You get what you pay for, most of the time

Very nice hotel. Breakfast is nice. Rooms are spacious and up to date. Good tv channels. Beds are abit hard. 

We booked a standard double room. Had to be changed straight away due to a massive amount of ants being in the room. Especially the bathroom. We got changed to a bigger ‘triple room’ with a window but on the second day we again noticed the ants. We did not want to change as we thought every room was going to be the same and all of our stuff was already unpacked. 

If it was not for the ant problem this hotel would have got a 4star. 

Good hotel. Average area. ANT problem 

Booked for six nights initially. Room very spacious - I think we may have been upgraded - and comfortable. Room clean as long as you don't look under the bed. Had a balcony, as requested, but it was very narrow. Just wide enough to stand. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. Did have dinner there one evening and that was very enjoyable. We did a lot of exploring around the side streets surrounding the hotel, day and evening, and though it was off the tourist track, we never felt at all intimidated. People were generally friendly and the occasional child would greet us in English. Did dine in a couple of local eateries where food hygiene left a lot to be desired and suffered later. Nothing serious but we were on Imodium for several days. First time we've had a problem like that in Asia so were a bit more selective about what and where ate after that. Always walked when we went to district 1 - took about half an hour.
Downside was the noise from the motorcycle traffic.As an exercise, I did a bike count from our balcony over short periods at different times of the day and calculated up to a 100 thousand motorcycles passed the hotel every 24 hours. Not too surprising as there are an estimated 8 million bikes in Saigon. There was no respite at night. As interesting as it was to watch the world go by from the balcony, after a few days we wanted peace and quiet so requested to change to another room. Though the room was smaller with not much of a view, the traffic noise was completely blocked out.
We enjoyed our stay at New Life Hotel, we even stopped on for a couple more days, but if anyone has trouble sleeping through noise, I would recommend requesting a quiet room away from the street. Certainly good value for money and I have nothing but praise for the staff. They were very friendly and helpful.
For anyone new to Ho Chi Minh, a word of caution about walking to and back from district 1 during the rush hour. The roads are so congested that a lot motorcyclists resort to riding on the pavements. And the noise and traffic fumes are horrendous. Traffic does not stop at crossings so the trick is to slowly cross the road and let the cars and bikes steer around you. You can learn the technique by watching how the locals negotiate it.
Finally, nothing to do with the hotel, but somewhere that has historic interest but not on the tourist trail. Older people, like myself, will probably remember the airlift during the fall of Saigon and the iconic pic and newsreel item showing people climbing the ladder on the roof of the American embassy, desperately hoping to escape on the helicopter. I did some research when I was there and discovered it wasn't the roof of the embassy but the roof of the Pittman building which housed CIA employees. Whats more, the building is still standing and looks just as it did over forty years ago. The building now houses several offices. We did go there and the security guard let us take the lift to the roof. (he did 'request' a hundred thousand dong for his shirt pocket -£3) We were the only ones up there. Ironically, it now overlooks McDonalds. The address can be found on google, took us best part of an hour to walk there from the hotel, but not sure how much longer it will be there. I believe it's earmarked for demolition.

Nice hotel but can suffer from street noise.

We stayed there in a family room for 2 adults and one child for 8 nights (room 201). It is a very good room size with lots of storage. Bed size are more than enough for 2 adults and a 7 years old kid. Bathroom is well maitain, dry and no smell at all

Staff are mostly friendly and helpful, especially a receptionist named Thuong and a security lady. staff in F and B section seem to be new in their positions.

Very good location where you can take a taxi easily. Tthe cafeteria downstair is perfect for friend coming to visit.

The only not major disadvantage is breakfast included in room rate for only 2 persons while the room is for at least 3

Good room size, good location

Nice and new hotel in central Saigon. It's very clean and new which I like. The staff are friendly and the bed is comfortable. Reasonable value. If the breakfast was bigger, it would be perfect. I'd definitely stay here again.

Short stay but worth time in New Life hotel. The location is convenient for travel to Dist
1 and other places. Hotel is nice, was thinking it should be small one but actually it was really good. This room was spacious and really clean. Staff are nice also. 
Breakfast was provided by a la cart, but few dishes only, and I also want to comment in this hotel.
