We booked 2 Nights and 2 rooms. When we checked-in they told us 1 rooms is not available, because staff broke the toilet. So just 1 room left. They offered us a 10$ discount of a total 80$ bill and argued that they have a higher room rate if a room is occupied with 3pax instead of 2. That's just redicoulus, because it wasn't our fault, so only a 50% discount would have make sense. Furthermore, on booking.com they are saying they accept credit card. When we arrived they said they don't even have a card machine. So we had to find an atm. Arrived in our room, it was not cleaned. Cigarette butts under the bed, hair everywhere, hair all over the sink in the bathroom so while showering the bathroom was about 3cm under water. Bin in the bathroom was full of disgusting woman's sanitary towels from the last guest. Bathroom has only a curtain, no door. Mattress rock-hard. 
Batteries of a/c where flat, so did not work. As I told the staff they took it out, put in the mouth and put it back. Problem solved from their perspective, but the disgusting solution just lasts for 5minutes. Staff don't understand a word english - hard to communicate. Bed got new painted or just got the wrong colour - everytime we touched it for getting up to the upper bed, our hands where full of black colour. The next day we got the second room next to us, where guest where in before. So no toilet broken, just typical overbooking.
We would not book it again.

Worst hotel in South East Asia

The room was so cozy and charming. The owners are so nice and friendly and can help you with anything. It’s located in a alley on the backpacker street so everything is nearby but still you don’t get bothered by the noise from the street. Loved this place. 

Charming hotel and room 

Initially we booked for one night but liked Phuong Van Hotel so much we stayed for four in total.

The room is a reasonable size for two people and it's helpful having a bed below to put things on. It would be a bit of a squeeze with three people. 

The bed is comfy and the room is clean. The shower was hot and there was good air con.

The location is excellent - just off the main street which has lots of choice of places to eat. You must try a smoothie from Five Boys directly opposite.

Although the owner does not speak English, we had no problem communicating and she always greeted us with a smile, arranged a taxi for us and lent us umbrellas.

The room was great value for money at just over $10 a night and we think we got a great deal compared to other places nearby.

There are a lot of steep narrow stairs so if you are not physically able you may struggle to carry your bag up.

Cannot recommend highly enough!

Perfect location, friendly staff

I stayed in this hotel for four nights, the ladies were extremely friendly, although they dont speak a word of English - we always managed to understand each other. The owner twice organised a taxi for me - to astonishingly low prices. The location is also good, with lots of nice bars, restaurants and shops and in walking distance from the main sights. Highly recommended.

Perfect choice

The location of this hotel is great, literally a minutes walk away from a huge choice of restaurants and bars, supermarkets and laundry. There is also a very good nailbar and massage place right next door. The triple room is very big although the bathroom is small. Plenty of hot water and good wifi signal. The staff are lovely, very smiley and the rooms get cleaned and towels changed every day which was great. They can organise taxis or tours for you at good prices. Only downside is the room is over a very busy, noisy street and the noise often goes on till 2am but it is a city and I am sure wherever you stay in HCMC, it will be noisy! Great value for money when compared to some of the hostel dorm rooms I saw advertised.
