My boyfriend and I stayed at the floating houses for 3 nights. During our stay in June we were the only guests which was nice in a way but quite isolating too.

The huts themselves are really set in beautiful surrounding away from the hustle and bustle of my tho. They are pretty basic but have some space to sit outside and watch the sunset. The bed seemed a little dirty at times but all in all we were expecting quite a simple room so were happy. 

Next we decided to organise some tours and the hotel manager put us in touch with a recommended tour guide. We then set about bartering a price for trips to the floating markets and exploring the mekong. Having travelled around a lot of south east Asia we were to haggling for a good price but being in such an isolated setting without any alternative means of transport we were forced to accept. There was a bad feeling about the whole deal. My boyfriend also requested to try snake traditionally prepared as part of our tour deal but this request was completely ignored and instead we were taken to a zoo to see snaked kept in very small cages.. Something neither of us enjoyed in the slightest!

The tour took place on motorbike and fortunately my boyfriend had some experience of this as the trips were rather long passing through very busy towns which were not warned of. The guide spoke little to no English and despite being promised excellent food we were taken to a cheap local restaurant where meals cost a couple of dollars (we wouldn't mind this normally but given the amount of money paid we expected more). 

As part of the tour price we were arrange a bus to our next stop in mui ne. That morning the guide arrived late and separated my boyfriend and I on different bikes along with our massive bags and we were driven several km to the side of a motorway. Earlier in the morning our hotel owner served us no breakfast promising us that our guide would provide it. This never materialised. We were put on a public bus for hours next to a bag of chickens. In the end the bus only took us to phan thiet and we made a very frustrating journey to mui ne.

All in all this would be a great stay for one night but avoid the tours and organise you own transport to leave!

Great experience

The owner gives hardly any information upon arrival and gives misstatement. 
It ones was a nice place, but it's slowly falling apart, due to lack of maintenance.
The cleaning was very poor. Dirty toilet, moldy bathroom floor, mold in the ice box, moldy pillows. The dinner table was not cleaned the 5 days we were there and it was dirty when we arrived. The madress is very thin.
Taking overprice for bottled water and your are not allowed to bring your own water on the premises.
Far to expensive compared with Vietnam prices, you would certainly expect better service for this price.
Every time you ask the owner for something he gives you the feeling you disturb him (in lying in his hammock all day!)
You have no influence on the contents of the meals. The owner decides the menu (tastes mostly all right though). He only tell you what it is when he is asked.
All in all we can't recommend the place.

We will never go there again

The Mekong Floating House is the nice idea to stay in huts on the river and there might have been good times for that venture. The interior is good enough and might be enough, but it was dirty and neglected. When we arrived there was still garbage from other guests in the bin. And the tea can which was served for breakfast never saw a sink. The bed did not look too inviting. We were glad having brought our travel sheets. The ice box in which were stored some cold drinks was really dirty and we did not even touch it.
Also annoying, an owner who tries to get as much money as possible out of his visitors. Even when you organize the boat trip to the floating house by yourself, he wants the cash to receive his commission. First thing he told us was the price for the boat taxi (250000 Dong) - nice welcome. Might be, that his prices are not absolutely overdone, but the manner was disgusting.

Not worth the (even small) money

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Mekong floating house for two nights in December during our trip in South Vietnam. 

The place consists of 5 bamboo houses with bedroom, bathroom, shower and terrace, away from the chaotic traffic and the noise of the city of My Tho. You'll need a boat to take you from My Tho's pier and the transfer takes just about 15 minutes. As some other reviews say, there are not many comforts or things to do there but that's exactly the concept behind a place so peaceful and secluded. The host is great and can help you arrange trips on the main land as well as give you good advice on your itinerary. We suggest you ask for a motorbike trip to Tra Vihn: the scenery is wonderful and you won't meet other tourists along the road. 
The host is also so kind he would bargain the price for you when booking boats or trips and you pay directly to him thus reducing the chances of a rip off. 

Breakfast and dinner are served on the terrace: the food is very good and plenty while the sunset on the River gives you the best background you could ask for. 

The landscape is stunning and if you go for a walk on the island you'll have the chance to see real life. 

The price is a bit higher when compared to other accommodations but it's totally worth it and we both agree we would definitely recommend it to everyone!

Unforgettable experience on the Mekong river!

It takes a long time travelling from Saigon or Can Tho and then the boat to the island which you pay for but it is not too expensive. We were resting on the journey between those places. You get isolation and tranquillity interspersed with noisy boats. Early morning and evening you can watch the tidal flow change and really relax. Food is good value for money, and the plants growing in the middle of the floating houses.... we only stayed one night but I will never forget it, a unique experience.
