Beware, false advertising!

Located a 16-minute walk from Sao Beach…OMG it takes a 20 minute ride up a stony track via car to even get near Sao Beach, this is an absolute lie!

An Yen Resort provides accommodations with a restaurant…really? Is it a restaurant for ghosts, it is a mere shell as is the so-called bar!

A garden…really? A few palm trees and ginger plants are called a garden? 

And a 24-hour front desk for your convenience. Rubbish! My husband went to the so-claimed reception area and he couldn’t find anyone around, he even searched around and called out loudly! In the end he helped himself to 2 glasses from the scant kitchen and returned to our room stating that this is the best he could do.

So, now let me give you a true account of the An Yen Ghost Hotel…

No air conditioning, the provided fan is extremely noisy. 
The heat in our room kept us awake all night and we were forced to open the doors to get cooler. It was really very bad. 

Furthermore, there is no fridge, no TV and 90% of the time no Internet which the lady claims is due to the strong winds.

There is no restaurant because there are no guests. 

Beds are very uncomfortable and almost on the ground. The reception is not as claimed 24 hours. The private beach is a tiny area between some rocks. 

This is a ghost hotel at the end of a very bumpy road.

Beware, if you are unhappy, they will refuse to give your money back. 

This place cheated us very badly, we booked 4 nights and only stayed 1, in order to be allowed to leave they charged us the full amount, absolutely no refund, choosing to stay here, to treat us on our last four days was an extremely expensive mistake!

An Yen Ghost Hotel Phu Quoc

My review for An Yen Resort is probably the hardest I’ve writtenpp so far. I actually thought about not writing one at all because it’s to hard to find the right words for the place and it seems zto undergo drastic changes in the near future. I’ll try anyways, mainly to shed a light on the very different (but often one-sided) reviews you can find here and on booking.com . You will notice that most of the things described have a good and a bad side and you will have to choose if the things pointed out will are positive or a negative for you. An Yen is very far out. To get there, you have to drive on a bumpy, sandy road. You can do it by scooter (which can be rent at the resort), but it takes some guts if you are new to driving a scooter. The only thing you can really reach by foot are bao sao beach and the little town (and there’s not much to see/get there for tourists). Both will take you between 30 and 45min, depending on your speed. The remoteness also means there are not many people at the resort. At the 3 days we stayed, we had a maximum of 6 people with us at the same time. It’s very quite, if you don’t feel bothered by some sounds of animals at night. 

Yes, there are animals around the resort. If you don’t stay in the big resorts, you will probably encounter some geckos and small insects all over the island. There are also some frogs and mice running around. We saw some very big geckos (about 40cm with the tail). They are harmless and eat insects, so it’s actually good to have them around. Our bungalow didn’t have visitors inside, our neighbors had tough. If you aren’t comfortable around nature, An Yen is probably a bad place for you. 

Because there are no restaurants around, you are forced to eat at the resort if you don’t want to take the bumby ride before breakfast or at night. The food is very good, prices are fair considering everything is fresh from the market. You should tell them in the morning if and what you want to eat in the evening. As I said, the food is good, but it makes the stay more inflexible. 

The bungalows: simple but very nice. Enough space for 2 people, very clean. There is no AC and no WIFI (this is important, because it doesn’t say so on Booking.com eg). There is WIFI at the „restaurant“ area tough. There are two bungalows with „seaview“ but they are in bad condition and the view actually isn’t very good.

Surroundings: this place is undergoing changes. They are building a restaurant and transforming the beach. It’s not a nice. Place right now. I tried to capture the current situation in the pictures. 

Closing words: I think the massive changes don’t allow for a good review right now. The whole place might look and totally different in 2 or 3 months. If you go there, it will be a surprise, either a positive or negative one.
