We did not stay here but came for lunch one day when we were on the beach. We asked if we could use a sunbed if we brought lunch at the restaurant and the waiter quoted us 200K each to use them (The resort was empty) We walked away and he followed us saying that we could have them for 100k for two (we triple checked this price with him).
Then when it came to paying, he added 200K to my card without asking me. Luckily I noticed and queried this and he argued that it was 100K each. 
We even went to reception to query this and the receptionist seemed disinterested and simply kept repeating that the sunbeds were in fact 150K each. This is fine if they are a standard price, but why were we originally quoted more and then promised something less that so that we would spend money on food.
This is very annoying because we wouldn't have eaten here if we could not use the sunbeds. The entire resort is simply out to rip off tourists, ironically the people that keep their business going.

Avoid - just looking to rip you off!

We'd highly recommend this hotel and happily stay there again.  We stayed for 4 nights in late February in a superior sea view bungalow.  All the rooms are individual cottages and relatively spread out in nice gardens.  The best thing about this hotel is that it has the least crowded beach along this hotel strip, given that it has a wide beach frontage but only around 30 rooms, and it doesn't allow non-residents to use its beach.  So the loungers aren't crammed in one next to each other like in most other places, and it is one of the quieter spots along the beach.  As the quality of the day spent on the beach is the most important thing to us, this is why we recommend Mai House so highly.  It is a low key and very relaxing place.  There is also a large pool.  Both the breakfasts and other meals at Mai House are very high quality, and they run a beach bbq in the evening sometimes.  The staff are also lovely.  Some may find the rooms a bit dated - the decor could use a refresh, but the room was very clean, the bed very comfortable, and the air con unit was new and very effective.  So the rooms were fine enough for us and in any case we only sleep there and spend the day on the beach.  So 3 star rooms but the only 5 star beach in the area!

Best beach front in the area

After reading glowing reviews online and spending five nights here, I must say I expected more from this resort. Upon checking in I was not even invited to sit down but asked to pay for my whole stay upfront. No explanation was provided for this. I was told to report to the restaurant on the beach for a welcome drink and then brought to my room. I was shown how to operate the safety box and when I turned around wanting to ask some questions, the person who had checked me in was already out the door and halfway back to the reception area. Suffice it to say that my first impression was not very positive... 
With the exception of one security guard at the front gate, I found the staff to be standoffish and not overly welcoming. They were doing their job but interaction with the guests was kept to the bare minimum. 
The strongest selling point of this hotel is obviously the private bungalows (which afford peace and privacy), the big garden in which the bungalows are located, and the private, quiet, relaxing beach. The breakfast buffet is also very good and has a lot of delicious fresh fruit, as well as a live egg and pancake cooking station. 
Apart from that, the hotel offers minimal services and amenities and I feel that the price is not justified. For example, there is no airport pickup service, no turn down service in the service (it would be useful to apply some sort of pest control inside the room at that time, my bungalow was full of ants and mosquitoes), no body lotion (essential for people who have been burning on the beach all day!), no bathrobes, no fruit basket, not even a box of Kleenex! You are allowed one beach towel per person per day and if you don’t bring it back to your bungalow at the end of the day, you will be charged 10 USD! 
My bungalow was pleasant enough but small and only furnished with the basics (one large bed, mosquito net had holes in it, one desk, a minibar, that’s all). But the bungalow comes with a private terrace, which is nice. 
In a nutshell, while there is nothing majorly wrong with this resort, I feel that the value for money is unsatisfactory. I expected more pampering at 120 USD per night! 

No frills resort with basic bungalows

Totally recommend. Wonderful resort. Excellent service by the staff, amazing food at the restaurant. Infinity pool by the beach. Thank you -especially to the guard who helped is with the luggage, the extremely nice and serviceminded lady at the restaurant and for help and information at the reception. We had an amazing stay!

Amazing place!

A member of our party fell ill during our stay and the staff were brilliant 
The hotel is clean, well kept with great tropical gardens. The food is to a high standard and the beach is well kept. The only slight drawback is that the beds could be slightly more comfortable

This hotel is just as the pictures and is beautiful and their seaview deluxe bungalow offers a fantastic view to wake up to. Its calm and a lot of sun chairs and perfect for people that wants a calm day on the beach. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

A calm, beautiful place with friendly, helpful staff

I was lucky enough to be able to spend 3 nights at Mai House with my mum during our southern Vietnamese trip . I didnt want to go th Phu Quoc because of all negative things I heard about but I definitely changed my mind after I visited Mai House. 

This hotel is not really an hotel for me as its only bungalows in a huge and amazing tropical garden. This place is right on the beach with an outstanding infinity pool 

I loved every meals I got there as well as all massage and care I had at their spa. I just didnt want to leave the hotel as I loved the atmosphere there so much

My favourite hotel in South Vietnam so far

Thoroughly enjoyed HCM city and the Mekong Delta along with the Vietnamese people’s generous hospitality. It does get a bit much after a while and when you need a welcome break away from the madness, Mai House fits the bill perfectly.

Phu Quoc is a bit like the Magaluf/Sharm el Sheikh or Pattaya of Vietnam filled with the more colourful tourists that congregate at the fast food joints on the main road where accommodation is cheap and cheap booze is by the gallon on a never ending happy hour. 

That said, this is why Mai House is such a delight. Private beach, shady palm trees, reasonably priced beachside restaurant(good grub too!), massive infinity pool with ample space even for the sunbed hogging Germans, beachside reasonably priced spa ($19/full body sea salt exfoliation!), big, clean chalets with comfy beds and aircon, large shower/bathrooms and really well maintained grounds. 

I highly recommend this resort - coming from someone that really doesn’t do resort holidays. 

Vietnam still has a ways to go to get to Thailand level on many aspects. It is however less than half the price, the folks are friendly even if English is sometimes a challenge, the food is good and the beer is cheap. 

Oasis of calm away from the mainland madness.

Beautiful resort with small, charming villas on the gorgeous beach. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is insta-worthy, the beach beds are nice.  Breakfast is good. The only thing I'd mention that it would be great to have a couple people working in the restaurant with better English to avoid misunderstandings. 
Make sure to go to Saigon Eatery at least once for dinner. It's a 1.5 walk on the beach and it's super worthy. Restaurants around the hotel are not great. The hotel food is actually better.

Beautiful place on the best beach

This is a welcome retreat from the mainland. If you are wanting a chilled and relaxed experience in a beautiful setting then this is the place to come. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Chalets are quaint and romantic and surrounded by pretty gardens. Not overly crowded. Offers a beautiful infinity pool, free buffet breakfast, complimentary cocktail and the beach has golden sand and is safe to swim in. The restaurant serves lovely food and amazing cocktails. They also have a spa/massage room which offers an array of relaxing treatments. You can hire scooters to explore the island through the front desk. If we had known how perfect this place was we would have stayed longer than the two days we had arranged.
