Mama Out of Africa is a great place to stay over at as it is our second time visiting there. We were four adults and 1 kid and there was still plenty of space to stay in. The place has been completely renovated and it looks absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen is fully equipped, you would just have to bring the raw ingredients. Karien is super friendly and helpful.

We stayed for 3 days 2 nights and we spent our time mainly fishing by boat. We got to see hippos, crocs, buffalos, monkeys, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and impalas during our fishing trip, how amazing is that?

Amazing short vacation trip on the Zambezi River

We have just spent a heavenly two days at Mama Out of Africa - three adults, two kids. It's a gorgeous place in an idyllic and completely tranquil setting on the Kayube estate facing the Zambezi National Park on the opposite side of the river. This means there is a good chance of seeing game- and we were lucky enough to see about 100 buffalos come down twice to drink as well as a small herd of impala. Mama Out of Africa is conveniently driveable in around half an hour from Livingstone so perfect if you only have a short break but want to stay out of town. The accommodation comprises a trailer - once used as a dressing room on the set of Out of Africa - with two double beds and kitchen. There is also a lovely "outdoors" bathroom, sundeck and sitting/dining area. A double bedroom (with semi-ensuite shower) has been built above the trailer upstairs and the whole set-up is ingeniously covered with a capacious and very pretty thatched roof. I did an early morning birding trip with Munene that was one of the best river trips I've ever done - simply gorgeous - and lots of birds (and hippos). Strongly recommend as an affordable way to spend a few nights right on the Zambezi river (most lodges in the area are very expensive!) Other accommodation options on the estate are three lovely bungalows, a converted boat house and the main River House itself. The website is a bit confusing regarding what's available, so maybe best to contact manager Karien Kermer direct. Strongly recommend.

Totally relaxing, gorgeous location

The place is very nice that was memorable holidays there are nice small wild animals to see on the garden nice sound of the falls inside everything is so nice the rates are affordable as well there is activities desk as well I did Hwange day trip from there which was so nice I just go to Facebook page Victoria falls trip supplier and got everything done they have nice view of the falls

This surprisingly converted mobile home, perched on the banks of the Zambezi River gave us the perfect site to chill out and watch the water world go by. Fishing from the deck and even swimming in a protected cage were special activities and the distance from the city of Livingston allowed us the privacy we craved for a relaxing vacation. It's a really funky and special place.

We spent a great night in Mama Out of Africa accommodation. Karien, the hostess was extremely accommodating and helpful, also did all our activity bookings for us. Great to sleep in a bit of movie history and listen to the hippos and other wildlife around you. It is far out of town, but that meant it was safe, quiet and beautiful. We sat on the deck and watched the wildlife across the River. We also took a sunset cruise on their little boat, great to get up close and personal with some wildlife. A great place to stay and highly recommended 

A bit of History

We have recently returned from spending 4 nights of our honeymoon at the Mama and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Karien and Peter made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. Our first night they took us out on the river where we saw all kinds of wildlife, especially up close with Hippos. And speaking of Hippos our breakfasts out on our deck were usually spent watching a pod hippos just across the river, wonderful! We also booked through them a day trip to Chobe National Park across in Botswana which they organised perfectly. It was so nice to relax in our own little world on the banks of the Zambezi, especially in such a unique place. It is also far enough out of Livingstone to escape the hoards of tourists and tour operators but close enough to nip in and get around, perfect. We will definitely be back!!
