Safeful cleanful and cheaper place... Great view...Tasteful foods...Maneger is verry hospitality and sensitive charactor... He is verry knowledgeable and helpful man...i st at 3 night in Kandy. I am enj so so happy...All round Briliant Superbly.. Green Wood is Wonderful and Exalant place....Pls stay one more night at Green Wood Guesthouse. My recommendation is Green wood is best place in Kandy...i wish you Green wood...Thanks For lot Green wood...Long way to go...

Exalant and woderful place

Stayed at the place during a weekend. The place was very quiet and not that far from kandy city.  The rooms were clean and the host Ananda was quite helpful. Recommend the place to anyone who is looking for a place to stay by kandy for a budgetary price.

Hospitality at its best

Good location but a very strange feel.
The host made me feel like he was a baby sitter, following me around, especially when I went to use the shared kitchen.
I was heating up some noodles and he almost pushed me aside to do it for me.
The toilet was smelly, the bathroom walls mouldy and the kitchen bin over flowing onto the floor when we arrived.
Breakfast was some toast and two fried eggs and some fruit.

And just in case the manager decided to pipe in... We were very good and quiet guests.

Give it a miss

We booked two rooms through booking.com and arrived at 3.30 pm. The place was deserted so we rang them and were told they were coming. We waited but nobody came so we stayed next door at an excellent alternative. We got a message through booking.com asking us if we were coming and an SMS saying as we did not come we would be charged the full amount. So far this has not happened. I suggest you book for here with caution as the place was deserted and unattended.

Hosts unwilling to accept guests.

I have been coming here with and without my parents since 1999/2000. I have been coming to GreenWoods and have visited 14 times. There have been many changes and upgrades to the property in that time. The rooms are simple but comfortable, clean and non expensive. A nice breakfast(included in room price) with fresh fruit juice and dinner at night is made as an optional extra. 

Some reviews on tripadvisor have not been so good or welcoming but I can tell you definitively, I like luxury and I also am happy to stay in guest houses and I always feel safe here GreenWoods, it’s like home away from home. It is secure, the people are nice and trusting. Yes, there is a language barrier at times and you may misunderstand each other but their intentions are good. 

The main door downstairs is locked at 10.45PM for your safety/security(although there haven’t been any issues or problems when I have been there, on more than 14 visits) and if you need to get in, you can knock or ring the bell but the manager is around in the mornings, afternoon and evenings. The gate at the top is locked once all guests have returned so property is secure and unlocked again early in the morning. 

I come back each year because I enjoy it so much. The area around GreenWoods is very pleasant, it is mostly quiet but on occasion there are some noises. The Udawatta Kele Sanctuary is seen around you but the entrance is 5 minutes walk from the city/Temple of The Tooth. 

I have not had a bad experience here and if your expectations are very high this is not for place for you. If you want 4 or 5 star then you should book a holiday resort. This is a family run guest house on the edge of town which has existed for many years. I will always continue to return and have a great time. With huge thanks to Rangini, Sameera, Ananda and Kusum(the owner). If I could give it 6 stars I would.

My favourite Guest House in KANDY! 

We arrived after seeing availability on booking.com. We hadn’t booked so asked to see the room etc. The manager showed us around and then quoted us a price at double the rate to that advertised. I explained and showed the rate I had on my phone and he rudely pointed at another member of staff in order for me to discuss with him. The room was okay, few ants around. No hot water as advertised. Towels were slightly smelly. We skipped breakfast due to cost. We left our bags in the property for most of the following day visiting city and when we returned later in the afternoon to collect no one was there. Our bags were left out in the main dining area on display all day. Thankfully I was able to enter through the slide patio doors to collect them, but this isn’t a very encouraging security factor at all. We had to shout all over he property to get someone’s attention in order to make our payment. I lady finally arrived upstairs after 10mins of shouting. Plenty of wild monkeys around the place which is interesting and it isn’t all that far from the centre, takes maybe 15-20mins to walk and it’s fairly refreshing.
