Banda Aceh

This is my 3rd time coming to this hotel for its pool. The last 2 visits were “alright” but this time was absolutely ridiculous. We came after been told (by the hotel staff) that you can bring people and sit in the pool area without paying entrance fee as long as you don’t swim. Then we bring 3 kids, we plan that only my husband and the kids will swim, and i can sit and watch them. Then, after we’re in the pool, the staff said that i had to pay for only sitting and watching them swim. WTH! And they said that it’s a new regulation that just applied on that day. Ok, I agree to just paid for my husband and kids (50k/person) and I wait in the lobby. What shocking me most was when i sat in the lobby, I saw they still put the pool entrance flyer with only 30k/person. I double checked to the staff and he said that it’s the old price. Then i checked their instagram account and it also says the price is 30k. The fact is, we’ve been paying 50k/person since months ago (it’s not new price). So from here we can see that their staffs are not care at all with their hotel update promo. I was thinking, would you choose a hotel with careless staffs? For me, i am absolutely don’t ever want to come back to this hotel anymore for any single reason!

Hotel with the most careless staff

It is a nice hotel, located on the main road. The breakfast was ok for me, rice, porridge, bread etc. The room was comfy except that it was facing unfinished space. There are quite a number of small shops nearby

The hotel is an average, but the location is superb. Its near by the beach where Masjeed Baiturrahim, the only Masjeed stood strong beside the beach line when the tsunami attacked Banda Aceh in 2016. It is near by the Tsunami Museum, Baiturrahman Grand Masjeed, some tsunami sites, Banda Aceh Museum, and not too far from Cut Nyak Dien house. 
The food is standard, the service is average, but the reception is great, helpful and kind.
The hotel is sorrounded with some coffee shop, which are famous in Aceh.

Its just close to everywhere

I was here on holiday from 10th to 15th April 2017 with my friend. We paid IDR 2,340,000 (SGD$246 or SGD$49/nite) for five nights.

We got a room on the second floor, with a great view further ahead. To be fair, I stayed here only for 2 nights out of the five nights I booked as I travelled to Sabang and Central Aceh (8 hours' drive away).

But frankly, 2 nights were more than enough to scare me away and not come back. This hotel is okay only if you have no alternatives. Otherwise, try your utmost to find other hotels.

Pros
- Great location relative to tsunami attractions and ports. Near Ulee Lhee port (if you are travelling to Sabang).
- Breakfast buffet isn't sizeable, but the Acehnese dishes cooked were spectacular. My favourite was the ayam masak Aceh, chicken in a curry Aceh style. Very spicy but delicious. Must try if you intend to breakfast here!
- Bed is heavenly comfortable. But look at Cons section.
- Water supply is great in this hotel, both drinkable water from bottles and bathroom.
- Bathroom is very clean and exceeded my expectations.
- Laundry detergent is damn nice, floral and refreshing. Better than most hotel laundry I've ever utilised.

Cons
- BREAKFAST: I ordered a plain omelette. I was promised it would be sent to me. 20 mins later, I had to leave the breakfast area. But omelette still wasn't sent. I glanced at the egg station and there it was in its cool glory, sitting nicely plated and uneaten.
Don't touch the fried chicken, if you still want your teeth. Very hard and dry.
Coffee is only passable. Just have a small cup to kickstart your day. Drink good coffee only at their warkop (warung kopi or coffee shops).

- MOSQUITO FEAST: The room I got was filled with mozzies! I don't know where the mosquitoes came from, but I killed five in an hour. Imagine how many there are throughout our sleep? I checked the window, but it felt tightly sealed. I stayed in Sabang and Central Aceh too, but not a single mozzie bite I got in those two places. My arms and legs look like a warzone in just one night here. Hotel, please do something about this. And hopefully they aren't Aedes mosquitoes. I'm usually ok with mosquitoes, but this room had too many.

- CLEANLINESS: As per my photo, there was a part of the room with spider webs and spiders. How did housekeeping miss this spot for days or months? Unacceptable for the price we paid. 

Comforter was disgusting. As per my photo, there were stains on it. Hotel towels are yellowy and stained too, despite us requesting fresh towels. This is also unacceptable.

- LANGUAGE BARRIER: I am a Malay girl from Singapore. Technically, bahasa Indonesia and the Malay language has the same basics. I spoke to them in Malay and my best bahasa Indonesia. Yet, they found it hard to understand my requests. I had to repeat myself many times and this really angered me. I am already using our common language. How do you expect me to speak then? I worry for foreign tourists.

Case in point: I had a bagful of dirty laundry which I personally brought down to the reception at 9.30pm. Why? The previous time I did laundry, they didn't replace with a new bag in my room. Hence, I went down. I asked at the reception whether they could send the laundry to my room after they were done or I had to collect from the reception. This is because the next day I wouldn't be in Banda Aceh at all. I would only be back the following day. I was fine with both. But the lady receptionist was confused at that simple question. Right. She gave me a luggage tag and told me to collect the laundry. Fine.

Second case: I was going to check out on my last day, Sat 15 April, at 8.15am. I told the receptionist I wanted to check out. She said the limit was 12pm and looked at me. I clarified again: “So we can check out now right?”. She reiterated what she said. I asked again “So, for your hotel, earliest checkout is 12pm?”. She said the same thing. Then after dingdong a few times again, then she said yes, the latest is 12pm. God! I did clarify with you earlier right? What on earth did you think I was saying? We wasted a good 10, 15 minutes just to settle this. My tour guide was due to arrive and I hadn't had breakfast yet.

Conclusion:

Stay here only if you have no choice. The purpose of my detailed review is to allow the hotel to improve but at the same time throw caution to fellow travellers. I am usually a tough traveller and have roughed it out while travelling, but I think for such a hotel with stars, I found things that has happened to be unacceptable. I hope the hotel can move forward and improve. Banda Aceh is a lovely town and has so much potential to draw tourists in and their dollars.

Stay here only if you're desperate!

This hotel seems to be really new, everything inside is nice and clean. The hotel is on the way from the ferry to the center. In the hotel area there is reallynothing interessting.
The transfer from the ferry to the hotel was offered for 50 000 IDR, and from the hotel to the airport for 150 000 IDR. Both is - in my opinion - overpriced.
The breakfast is Indonesian, nothing for European taste. 
We have stayed one night and it was enough.

NEW HOTEL CLORE TO THE FERRY

Stay here for 3 nights, wifi in the room not so good. Breakfast great, friendly staff and the room clean. Near to masjid and can hear the azan from my room. Will stay here again 😀😀😀
