A nice little inn, nestled in a corner of the village, a nice table enjoyed throughout our stay, courteous hospitality. An inventive, sought after kitchen. A hotel well located, quietly, in the centre of the village and about fifteen minutes from the beach which offers a great walk on the sand. Good starting point for visits to the surroundings.

Papules and pupils

We had lunch there on December 25 and were delighted, both for the papillae and for the presentation of the dishes. The reception was very warm and the service was impeccable. The chef of the restaurant offers fresh and creatively crafted products, all for an excellent price ratio.

Auberge le Ratelier is a classic stay in country France by Carnac. Lovely and traditional, the room was very nicely appointed and just a short walk from restaurants in Carnac itself, or access the restaurant on site.
Highly recommended.

Lunch at the restaurant The Ratelier in family with brother, children, young children. Very good meal: well prepared, good, well presented, well served and suitable for young children.

Birthday dinner

The reception was discreet and complete. The room was spacious, clean, bright, quiet. The bed is of good quality. The breakfast served at the table is plentiful and delicious. Very good stay 🙂 A recommendation for a good stay in Carnac

A successful night

We stayed one night in Le Ratelier during our month tour of France.   It was an awful 2 star.  I won’t call it a hotel as it was like staying in an old bed and breakfast in Blackpool with a stern landlady.  We were not made welcome on our arrival and we asked the Madame if she  spoke English which she said Non.   However we did find out at breakfast the next morning that she did.   

We had arrived early for check in and wanted to apologise for that and request a room change but instead we  were met with a stern response in French.  Despite the room being ready we were scolded for our early arrival, given the keys and pointed up the steps in French of course.  

Our room was a twin it was the only room Booking.com had available at the time.   This room was bijou and was so NOT user friendly.  The mattress was hard and kept me awake.   There was no hairdryer, no drink making facilities and the very tiny wardrobe space of an ensuite was not private with only a plastic concertina door that one shut which gave no noise privacy.   

There were many signs in the room saying don’t bang the door,  don’t eat food in the room, put your used towels in the shower cubicle and a sign saying if you missed breakfast you still had to pay for it.    Still felt like we were in a Blackpool landlady’s nightmare. 

Talking of breakfast which cost 9 euros it was not very appetising.  It was a Sunday but still no excuse to be served  shockingly bad stale hard bread, stale croissants and chocolate fairy cakes for your breakfast.  Sugar cornflakes and coco pops and just yoghurts the only protein.   It was a diabetics nightmare waiting to happen.  One pot of tea or coffee each and no chance of asking for any more which we were reluctant to do in case we got scolded again.   

We speak some French and do our best and have been doing Duolingo to refresh our school learnt French.   Brittany is a tourist destination and it’s an expensive place to holiday but it would appear we are not welcome.  This is sad since these people work in hospitality but do not want to offer hospitality.   We found that strange and unwelcoming.  

We couldn’t get out of there fast enough and felt like we were stung as it cost just under £100 for one night.   Our paths will NEVER cross the Ratelier ever again thank goodness for that!!!

Don’t even think about staying here …

I am currently staying here in what feels like a throwback to travelling in the 80s when I could only afford the basics. But here I am again with my husband, in a room that is small, noisy and uncomfortable. How anybody is giving this a good review beats me. The bathroom is separated by a curtain - I say bathroom, a toilet, a basin and an odd shower which you almost have to step over the loo to get to. Also in the bathroom is a closet. There are absolutely no extras - glad I brought my hairdryer. I had booked for 3 nights because their publicity made it look great; the reality is very much the opposite and am thinking of finding somewhere else for the next two nights it is that bad. I will still have to pay for this though. I feel shafted to be honest. The woman manager - maybe owner  - is a sour, unhelpful person, who clearly has no thought about her guests and the whole place lacks any of the usual things that make your holiday that bit extra special. 
I don't think there is any excuse these days for such bad hotels and management.

shockingly basic

Very quiet and very pleasant hostel. Very welcoming and very friendly staff Very clean and comfortable room. Very good restaurant with a very reasonable price ratio. Very good geographical location to enjoy the places to visit in Carnac

Charming address in the centre of Carnac, unpretentious family atmosphere, welcoming accommodation, simple but comfortable rooms, tasting fresh and tasty cuisine, right prices, authenticity recommended.

Nice atmosphere, very good table

We'd booked a twin room through booking com, but for only one night. We tried to book two nights through booking com but as this wasn't possible I contacted the owner direct. He agreed to a 2 night booking. When we arrived the room we were offered had one quite small double bed. The owner shrugged and said there were no twin rooms - though we saw one being cleaned the next morning. Most unhelpful and unapologetic.
