Small rooms, terrible staff. Awful mattress, you could feel every spring. At least the water was hot. Don't stay there, there are plenty of great places nearby, you can see that they removed the hotel from booking and agoda lately as the opinions were so bad.

Avoid at all costs

We were obliged to stay at this place, because there was no place at the hotel nearby that we booked, so they put us here. People working here are more than unfriendly. When we saw the room, which was extremely small, noisy and smelly, we kindly ask to give us some discount from the price, because they want us to pay the same price we had to pay at our previous hotel where we had a very nice, clean and spacious room, they started to yell at us and told us to go away... Unfortunately we had no choice but stay here, because it was very late at night and we were leaving very early the next day. At the end they told us that they will prefer to have a free room than let us stay here... 
Avoid this place at all costs!!!

Stay away from this terrible place! 

The hotel is small and has some strange smell. But the room is quite ok with average services from the recipient. Spent 1 night here to sleep only so I didn't expect a lot of thing to experience here.

Average hotel

DO NOT STAY HERE.

We stayed here one night. We originally asked for the price, which was 250,000 - we’d been staying in places more like 150,000 so this seemed a little pricey for us. We thanked the older woman and were about to walk out when she asked how much we were willing to pay. We said maybe 200,000? She offered us 230,000, or $10 US, which we took because we were tired and wanted to put our bags down.

We went upstairs and settled in before coming back down to pay. Then, she asked us for $11 and got really upset when we said we’d agreed on $10! After some back and forth, she took $10 after all. I guess she’s used to foreigners just bending to her angry shouting, and thought she could get a little extra money out of us.

The next morning, we refilled a water bottle in the little store upfront. We’d filled it the night before as well with no problem, the cashiers just smiled at us. Water is so cheap here - a 20 litre jug is about 10,000 dong to refill for them. 

Out of nowhere, the old woman comes up to us SCREAMING and clapping her hands and making “tshh” noises like you would at a cat digging up your flower garden. She yells at us and tells us we need to pay. I honestly don’t even care about having to pay - that would’ve been fine, even though we haven’t had to pay for water refills yet (we’ve been traveling Asia for 3 months). But the way she flapped around, screaming at the top of her lungs, is completely unheard of and unnecessary. We are paying customers, after all, and behaviour so obscene made sure we weren’t going to give her another dime.

The room wasn’t clean either - the garbage can was still full, and there were hairs on the mirror. The pillows felt like rolled up dish rags stuffed in a pillowcase. The wifi was slow and laggy. Do yourself a favour, STAY AWAY.

Rude, dirty and nasty

A typical hotel on Pham Ngu Lao - stayed there for one night. The room is normal, although cosmetic repairs would not interfere. Nearby is a mini-market and a couple of supermarkets, including Coop Mart.

Ordinary hotel at Pham Ngu Lao

Location was great, in the heart of the backpackers district. Close to everything and had a bottlo across the road. When I arrived the pictures they shown us online were of a different room and we had to pay extra to have the room we viewed but the one they'd shown us was so small you couldn't even put your bag down without having to climb over the bed.  The balcony was a nice spot to sit. The room was old and not very clean. Pet ants were a nice touch. We didn't even have a bin in our room and there was no service for our 4 day stay. The toilet seat was broken and the shower flooded the bathroom. We had one towel between the two of us and it had a big hole in it! The staff weren't very helpful and they turned the WiFi off on our last night. It was cheap which was a plus but they'd lied about the rooms from the beginning. Wouldn't go back. 

Cheap and Nasty

At all, water is on, thats enough for me. Bad communication, they don't understand my language, neither do i. 
They alao have a travel consultant, so before you go from hostel everyday, you must through a small way to go out. 

I suggest you to find a better hostel even the price higher, its all about comfort feeling. Don't you stay for a good sleep? :)

Weird feeling

It's a nice stay, small but reasonable rooms with AC or air con and attached bathroom. 
The reason why I give a poor review is the behaviour of the owners mother or mother-in-law, who was very rude to us without reason.
After a few days of staying at the hotel we wanted to checked out and pay our bills (room price, laundry and drinks we've had from the mini bar) The day we arrived we agreed with the owner to pay 9$ per night without AC, only fan. The day we meant to check out the elderly lady was in the lobby, I told her of the previously arranged price, but she immediately got very angry, shouting at us saying it is 10$ and we got it all wrong, and also overcharging us for drinks and laundry. She wouldn't listen or talk about it but just screamed and shouted, until the owner came out and I managed to sort the bills out with him instead.
All else was good in this hotel, but because the lady was exceptionally rude without reason I wouldn't recommend it or come back

Alright stay but rude lady

This hotel is the cheapest we found in HCMC and it is very basic, but perfectly acceptable and we stayed for a week. They have better rooms too I think, but we stayed in a very small one, just big enough for the bed. There was also a TV on top of a small fridge.
The ensuite bathroom was very basic, but clean enough, though it did smell a bit unpleasant so we kept the door closed.
The owners were polite and friendly.
It is located near the backpacker area, but not in it, just a bit further from the centre and the main sights. It was no problem walking to wherever we wanted though, and there is a little mini-mart opposite, plus plenty of restaurants or cafés nearby.
There is a lot of building work next door so it was quite noisy though.

Very basic but fine

The best thing about the place is that it is quite well situated.The hotel is not very luxurious, nor is it large or bright.But the bed was large, comfortable and well sleeping.The cleaning is correct and the treatment cordial.The air conditioning is quite noisy.No pretensions.And cheap.
