I am very Bamboozled as to WHY this dump has high ratings on some sites.
Ok Bukittinggi does not have many nice options. But this was by faaaar the most disgusting place I stayed at in Indonesia.
I sometimes use shower sandals and in THIS PLACE i did not want to use them cause I didnt want to get horriffic germs on my shower sandals.lol.
On arrival there was a "reception"hut which smelled of smoke and had a huge ashtray filled with butts.
Our room...I had to take a big step Back as the door opened. It STANK OF MOLD SO BADLY.the walls were all flaky from moisture..the room had an old red carpet which stank and it was so dirty(you could not clean it if you tried and it is not a good idea to have carpet in this climate.lol)
Towels smelled just the same.room looked Nothing like in pics(well..pics do not have smell attached)
The house smelled badly too and was furnished with old ugly sofas.
In all fairness the owner was nice and I felt bad for saying that the room was terrible.he said he can call me a cab to go to a different hotel.it was late and we stayed one night. But if you have been spoiled in Bali and Bukit Lawang or Lake Toba before..you need to know this is NOT on the same level or the same "Value for Money"as guest houses there.
I would not recommend it.also if you are an animal lover you will cry while having your breakfast cause you are surrounded by beautiful exotic birds which are in cages.
The shower worked good and there was coffe available.
The place is often full with local tourists.
I wish they would remodel and take out the old carpets and put tile !!!!

Horror Show !

This place is very unique and absolutely well-managed. It's environmentally friendly and located in a very quiet corner of the city, and yet not too far from the major attractions. The rooms are clean and clean and the breakfast tastes marvellous. The only problem with this place is that it is located in quite a hidden corner of the city that it is quite difficult to locate, even with the most experienced drivers. It is definitely something different and the staff are very friendly and helpful too.

Unique & Well Managed

it is about 15 mins walk from jam gadang...many eating outlets; convenient stores, pharmacy, an  atm koisk , mosque ,the main road all just 5 mins wall from Bamboosa.

Next to nature..clean and very friendly staffs and neighbourhood folks..a real home away from home environment , valued for$$$$, u get what you pay..

Nice breakfast and individually
 serve, water despenser, mini garden , wifi , living room for family gathering, very clean room, bath room, realiable hot water shower etc...come and experience it urself..

very efficientcy shuttle service available upon request...

The real feeling of home away from home..

This guest house is pretty unique....I am pretty certain that this guest house was built with much considerations for the environment and nature. The location of this guest house is not the easiest to locate BUT it is near enough to the city centre and majority of the tourist attractions in Bukit Tinggi. There is no fan or air-conditioner in all the rooms but the weather in Bukittinggi is cold enough to go without these modern comforts. The wifi is decent and there is a free flow of coffee and tea around this property. Breakfast wise, it is pretty tiny in portion but the food was absolutely delicious.

Unique B&B Guest House

First of all, its location is not as good as other hotels in the area.  However, it doesn't take you long to get to the places of interest.  I do think that if there's availability, you should stay at Mercure Bukittinggi.  It's in a historical Dutch building and right in the heart of this touristy town.  Anyhow, it took us quite a while to locate this hotel.  Firstly, we used phone to get direction but when it's apparent that we're still very lost, an escort was dispatched to guide us to the Guest House.  The hosts were friendly and attentive.  I was being placed on the ground floor, and the first room on the left side of the Guest House.  It's VERY basic but at least it has an ensuite.  At different time of the day, you would hear the chanting of Muslim prayer from different sides of the Guest House.  For someone like myself who grew up in South East Asia, I found the experience assuring and comfortable but I don't believe other Westerner guests would share the same sentiment.  WiFi is good enough and the bedroom is comfortable enough.  There's not hot water facility available in the room to make myself a hot drink and I would need to go out to another building at rear.  However, should it rain heavily, you are out of luck.  Breakfast's provided and the host made the best fried rice EVER.  The portion is tiny but it's better than nothing.  I didn't fault my stay here.  You get what you pay for.
