Located in the historic centre of the stunning Noto. Free parking by the B&B (if available). Extremely clean and tidy. Spacious room vary carefully equipped. The host is nice, welcoming. There is also a beautiful garden available to all guests! Very good price!

Right in the historic centre 

Firstly, the only significant negative. We booked through Booking.Com where they did not appear to show any choice of rooms. When we arrived we were shown to a room without balcony or garden view and just assumed that the 'better' rooms were already occupied. Well, if they were, we never saw the occupants! So ...be warned if you use Booking.Com. Having said that, the room was perfectly acceptable and good value. The breakfast, as everyone else has commented, was wonderful and Giuseppe was an excellent host - when he was there. This is a B&B, not a hotel, so do not expect someone available 24/7. The wifi was erratic in the room, but 100% in the garden. Now the big plus … the location is absolutely perfect, right by the main entrance to the town centre and five minutes (max) walk from where the buses stop. And we REALLY loved Noto, especially when it came alive at night.

We loved Noto

If you expect ‘just’ a B&B, this feels like a resort. It is the personal touch that makes you feel welcome and the garden that makes it feel like a relaxing home.

We got there without letting know what time we would arrive. We called the number at the door and Giuseppe quickly came to welcome us. He didn’t speak a lot of English, but neither do I speak a lot of Italian. We did our best to understand each other.

The check in surprised us as we did not expect such a nice room with a balcony! The room was decorated very lovely and the balcony had multiple seats and a place to dry some laundry (we went hiking before, so drying clothes was necessary!). We didn’t have to ask anything, we got all the information regarding WiFi, breakfast and so on.

The B&B is located very central and getting to see things can easily be done walking directly from the location. I must say though, that staying centrally mean you do get to hear a bit of noise from the streets around. I did however not wake up from this.

The breakfast was another highlight. We were welcomed by Giuseppe using our names. It made us feel welcome. Although it was just the two of us, he had the buffet prepared with dangerously nice pastries. We had fresh juices and fresh cappuccino. The best is however where the breakfast is served. It is such a tranquil garden. There are birds flying around, lemons hanging from the trees and two small turtles as well!

I suggest everyone to go here. Even if I did create high expectations, just go here to enjoy life. You’ll be positively surprised.

3 star B&B? 5 star resort!

A spacious room a few steps away from the main street with the perfect hosts. They offer plenty of fresh orange juice for breakfast, which is a delightful touch added to their care and smiles in the morning. We stayed there for 2 nights and the room was cleaned after the first one. We felt welcomed and taken care of.

The perfect town stay

Our room (with balcony) overlooked the garden and its citrus trees and was a restful stay. Located around the corner from the main street and all its bars and restaurants, this was a tranquil place to stay. The room was on the smaller size but had everything we needed. Staff were very helpful, breakfast was delightful, by the garden.

Overall stay at B&B Macrina was ok however, I had high exceptions from reading the reviews.  Their were several necessary needs that were blatantly lacking and to be touched upon. 

Upon pulling up to B&B Macrina we were not really directed as to where we could park so we pulled into a little alley way and parked our car. We rang the bell and Giuseppe answered in Italian and we tried to communicate that we were here to check in. Once he came and met us at the door we quickly understood that he did not speak a word of English. The check in process was literally him showing is our room and handing us the keys, along with the wifi password. He didn't give us a map or any information regarding points of interest or places to eat. Nothing. While Giuseppe was handling the keys with my partner, I attempted to log into the wifi and quickly realized it did not work. We tried all three of our phones and iPad and none were able to connect. I showed Giuseppe and he tried to play around with the wifi box a little however to no avail. He told me from what I could gather that he would have a technician come in an hour and to wait around- super annoying when you have travelled all day and want to see the sights; not wait for a technician. Also, I asked if the designated parking spot outside of our window was our spot and he said yes; let me just say getting through the extremely narrow passageway to the spot left a nice scratch on our car.  Giuseppe saw this and had a neighbor buff it out which was nice and helpful. 

After the technician left the wifi was more out that in and when it worked it was incredibly slow and frustrating since we were solely relying on using it to plan our daily activities for our time in Noto. The only semi-solution was to go to the garden (where breakfast was served) because the signal was sometimes better but not much and did not work for us at all certain days. 

Facilities in the room were adequate and the room was clean and ac unit worked well and kept the room cool. The room was straightened up and cleaned everyday. Breakfast was great; plenty of pastries, yogurt, cereal, fresh OJ and coffee. Giuseppe even made a cheese and tomato sandwich which he gave us a bag for so we could take it for lunch. 

Location was perfect to walk around the streets of Noto and see all main attraction sites. Also, easy access to main roads made getting to the beach and other out of town locations easier. 

Lastly, getting back to the non English situation: I do not feel nor expect everyone to speak English however, when running a B&B I believe that there should be accommodations in English that would ease the experience of any English speaking traveler. For example, the signs in the bathroom indicting what to do to with your dirty towels in order to get fresh towels when the room was cleaned was solely in Italian. Personally, I think taking the five minutes necessary to translate this and make a multi language sign would have demonstrated some effort to appeal to an English speaking guest or at least made there stay a little more familiar.  It's not like we could use the wifi to translate the sign because, as mentioned above, the wifi was non existent. 

Overall, Giuseppe and his family were friendly, personable and charming. The facilities were adequate for your average B&B. This place has all the potential to be great and live up to the ratings it has received, however for us,  it dropped the ball on key aspects that would have elevated our stay and made our experience smoother and more enjoyable.
