The property itself is lovely and the breakfast was great.  We stayed during a very warm time and since there is no air conditioning we needed to sleep with the windows open.  That helped to cool the room but unfortunately the cigarette smoke from the families below wafted up and right into our room.  The staff was helpful during our stay and overall friendly. While the hotel is technically 15 minutes away from Berchtesgaden the only way to access it without a car is to take the bus from town but it stops running at about 6pm meaning that you need to take a 20 Euro cab ride up.  The hotel does give bus vouchers while you are staying there which were very useful during the day but once you check out you can't use a bus voucher to get back into town.

Nice Location outside of Berchtesgaden

Clean, spacious rooms with modern bathrooms. Large free bottle of water, no minibar. Very good breakfast with a wide selection also offering fresh pretzels. Dinner possible in the typical Bavarian restaurant Holzkafer next door (was open from 18 to 22). They give a Guest Card with the room which offers discounts on nearby attractions such as car parks, discounts on tickets - 4€ for the
Jennerbahn cable car etc. Free parking in front of the hotel. Reception open only during checkin(15/18) and checkout(8-10). The bells at the nearby church ring every hour - from 7am in the morning and 9pm in the evening. Close to the Eagle´s Nest as well as other attractions (Jennerbahn cable cars, Königssee lake).

Mountain hotel with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside

I came here with my family. We stay in a suite with kitchenette. Loved the spacious bathroom and extraordinary front desk staff. It's only a few minutes drive from the eagle's nest entrance and about 10 minutes drive to visit Koenigsee.

Nice mountain view and air!

The hotel is located above Berchtesgaden with beautiful views of the Alps. The price was significantly lower than the hotels located directly in town, and you are only a few minutes drive from town. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a nice balcony off the rooms. Careful on your drive up, especially in rain or snow, as it is truly up the mountain. Breakfast is not included in the price, but it was worth the money and was a typical Bayerish breakfast. Highly recommend the restaurant next door! Included is a picture taken from our balcony (unedited), it was quite rainy the evening we arrived.

Why stay in town when you can stay on the mountain?

Last minute we decided to spend 1 night in Berchtesgaden instead of Salzburg, which would allow us more time to do all the things in the area. I am very glad I found Alpenresidenz Buchenhohe 2.5 weeks before our stay at a very reasonable price. Booked directly on their website, no upfront payment, with very generous cancellation policy (up until 6pm on day of stay). For less than US$100, the room is huge and comes with all the basic amenities. This appears to be a vacation condo building, each unit owned by a private party, who then rents it out through the management company that manages the building (think all the oceanfront vacation condos we have in the USA).

If I must point out flaws, there was a full trash bin in the bathroom, I guess the cleaning crew forgot to empty it out. It didn't bother me, but it may bother others. 

Keep in mind, the place is away from town. I think there is a bus, but I can't imagine hauling luggages and trying to work with a limited bus schedule. It is best to have your own car, parking is free. It is not far from the Eagle's Nest bus station/Documentation Center. 

Check in is before 6pm - if you arrive after 6pm, make arrangement ahead of time. However, if you can check in first, one of the perks I didn't know I have is they provide a visitor discount card to each guest (5 euros deposit for each card), you can then get discounts at various places. Since I didn't check in until the end of day, I missed out on this perk.

There is a very cute restaurant next door (Holzkafer). Being the only place there or food and drinks, the price is quite reasonable. It was open the night we were there (Sunday) until quite late. We enjoyed a beer before retiring to our rooms. However, to be safe, please check their website to confirm their operation hours - I do not think they are open daily especially during off-season.

I definitely recommend Alpenresidenz Buchenhohe!

Affordable, Spacious, Free Visitor Discount Card but Need a Car

We stayed here for 2 nights in October 2018, visiting the local sights,and Obersalzberg. We had a wonderful room, plenty of space, next door to a great restaurant. Breakfast was great. Check in was easy, as well as check out after. The church bells that started ringing at 7 am was a little unnecessary.

Lovely stay

I was visiting Berchtesgaden with my elderly parents and 6 year old son and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights . Whilst the rooms are clean and it looks like a newly constructed place I would not consider ever coming back here for two key reasons - 1) the terrible experience at the time of check in - we were traveling here from Salzburg and had spent the entire day at Berchtesgaden . At 6 pm I called up the hotel informing them that we are waiting at the bus station for the next ( and last bus )  to reach the hotel . When we reached the hotel at 7 pm we were very curtly informed that the hotel does not run a restaurant on Wednesdays , the local grocery shop closes at 6 pm , and the only restaurant in the area is also not open on Wednesdays. Bearing in mind that I had two elderly people and a little boy with us , and knowing that there is no bus that leaves after 6 pm to reach any restaurant in the town center the staff was most unhelpful and could not even arrange a couple of slices of bread or  an egg ( given that they run a restaurant every other day of the week !). We ended up spending £55 for a meal that cost us £10 eventually. My only expectation from the hotel was that they should have cared to inform about the limitations I described above in advance  and shown some consideration for their guests , given I had spoken to them just 30 mins ago ( and while we waited at the town center) or shown some consideration for a child ! I found this attitude to be very unthoughtful and uncaring in relation to their clients . 2) with the benefit of hindsight , there is no reason why one would book this hotel given its unhelpful location - if you are here for the lakes , walks or sightseeing you are better off booking somewhere mainstream rather than Buchenhöhe. So in a nutshell , my advice would be STAY AWAY from this hotel , there are better options available for a better price elsewhere .

Hopeless customer service and unhelpful management 

Lovely views from our mountain view room in quiet village in the mountains, Our one room apartment was very clean and had a well-equipped kitchen. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again 

Great hotel in picturesque location

We stayed here while visiting Bavaria and Hitler's bunker.  We had a room on the corner with a small kitchenette.  We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful, countryside around this hotel. It is not in the middle of town, but rather a place to enjoy the beauty of Bavaria. There was a small stream near our hotel. Hiking is phenomenal!
