A very nice place, like at home, the very friendly owner, the very good breakfast. Very clean rooms, perfect surroundings. We enjoyed the swimming pool after the beach, great. We'll come back and recommend!

Stupidity is the result.

We enjoyed our stay here, the host Marcel is very helpful and a funny character.
The location is a short walk to the beach and centre away from all the busy areas!
The pool and the garden are very nice aswell.
1 thing i will say the hotel/rooms need a bit of a makeover, its a bit tired and old looking. 

Basic but good! 

We had booked at the Hotel California en Nerja because on its page it says that pets are allowed. Well, last night we received a message from the owner telling us that if we take Bilbo: a. You can't stay alone in the room at any time. That is, if we want to go down to the pool or the beach, we have to do it in turns. B. We have to PROMETER that he won't bark, especially at night. Obviously, we canceled the booking. If you don't want pets on the premises, you should put those conditions on the page. We've been traveling with Bilbo for 5 years and we've never had any problems. Of course, I've been left with the urge to know if your human guests ask you to lean on them and not snore.

We have cancelled the feeling of being deceived.

My partner and I stayed here for a few days and were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful our stay was. Marcel is absolutely incredible, we took most of his tips and recommendations for places to see/eat which were all amazing. It's a very short walk to the beach, it's a nice location because it isn't a busy or crowded street like the others closer to the beach. The pool was also very nice, we didn't think we would use it but when we didn't feel like going to the beach the pool was a great alternative. The biggest thing that stood out was the hospitality, Marcel is such a lovely man and would definitely recommend staying here.

Amazing Customer Service

I was slightly nervous staying at this hotel with low star rating... however I was pleasantly surprised. 

The owner was very friendly, chatty and accommodating. It is a small hotel, in my opinion, that's a good thing! It did not feel like a hotel but more like staying at a friends home. It was very homely. 

The pool area was nice and quiet, we were the only ones relaxing by the pool. We did not make much of the beaches on the coast of Spain, they were a bit of a disappointment. The town here was beautiful though. Shame we did not have enough time to go on the walk along the river as that sounded pleasant. 

The room had a fan rather than aircon this did the job and kept the room cool. The mattresses were real thin, like ones you find in countries like Asia. It was no luxury bed, but it certainly was comfortable enough. But a "proper" mattress would've been preferable. 

Only a short walk to the town & beach. 

I'd listen to the owners food recommendations, he knows what he is talking about! 

Don't hesitate booking here and don't let the low star ratings put you off.

Homely & quiet

The hotel is simple and clean, the pool is small but regenerative! The garden is great where to take a break from the cold (a real rarity in August in these areas). The owner is very available. There is no air conditioning but honestly the fan was more than enough, the fridge is missing in the room but you can use the common one. I can't judge breakfast because it starts at 9.15, very late x us, x so we gave up x being on the beach early!

Not bad.

So this is how we have started our 8 day road trip around Andalusia, and what a gem we found. Our host Marcel from the moment we arrived did everything to ensure our stay in Nerja was comfortable. In fact Marcel provided a one stop shop of recommendations from eating out to places to visit. Hotel California affords comfortable rooms with the benefit of a pool and is a short walk (10 minute) to the  the centre of Nerja and the nearby beach. I would return in a heartbeat should I decide to visit this beautiful part of Spain. But for the moment we are onwards to Cordoba and to more experiences. M&J 

Start of our road trip

For years I have been a regular guest at the Hotel California and I keep meeting friends from all over Europe in this peaceful, friendly place. Marcel, the owner and operator, cares for his guests in six European languages and knows a solution for every situation. The pool under the giant cliff is a place to dream.

Europe lived.

From Alhambra, we stopped for a one-day stopover in Nerja. The hotel we booked was this. We parked easily in one of the streets around the hotel and then we entered with our luggage. We were waiting for the owner (a Swiss gentleman for years there in Nerja) who immediately pointed out on the map everything there was to visit with a lot of kindness and availability. In the evening walking for about 10-15 minutes we then went to the center to see the famous balcony of Europe. It was not the end of August, it was full of people! But really! The next morning's reception was not relative, but the owner offered it! A beautiful squeeze of fresh bread with all the freshly baked and marbled cocoa! Ah, we were in a beautiful hotel, and we had a very nice swimming pool, and we obviously forgotten a very nice beach!

She's all right!

Hotel located in a seaside resort (Nerja) really beautiful for its scenery. Very nice and kind reception in the hotel by Marcel, the owner of the location. My wife and I spent three days in a sign of cordiality, carefreeness and fun. Marcel is very good at providing excellent advice on both things and places to see and visit, as well as on the places where to go for lunch and/or dinner. A peculiarity: Marcel in the rooms uses mattresses of the type Futon that are of Japanese origin and that are tendently low and rather hard. Well, we slept well! However, for those who did not want this type of experience there is always a room with traditional mattresses.
