Location is just great. There are 2 hostels in the building one over another. I stayed in both shared and a private room. Some shared room may have interesting characters. Receptionists were nice and very caring moved me to a better room (when co-room-dwellers had horrible snorring condition). With both hostels, the water pressure in showers is questionable. But you can't be more centrally located

Can't beat location

Booked a double room with private bathroom in this hostel for a few days in St Petersburg. Don't even consider staying here. When we arrived we were met with a confused look from the lady on reception, terrible English had to ask a resident of the hostel to interpret. We were told they have no such room and no space available for us. The hostel was more of a residence for local people, there were no tourists present. Despite having a confirmation email for our tourist vouchers and visas a couple of weeks before from the hostel. The only good thing they did was phoned another hostel for us to stay in.

Just awful

Stayed there on August 2012. Location is great, as it is very close to Ermitage, also the Nevsky prospect is a good place to explore city and see other sights. I think it is a big advantage they have several double rooms so there is no need to share your private space with strangers. Room was a simple one, air conditioner, high ceilings, no tv and shared bathroom/toilet at the end of the corridor, but we did expect it. You can put your food in refrigerator which is in the shared kitchen. The receptionist Marina is very helpful and pleasant, other staff do not know very much details about the city or just are not willing to share their knowledge. Hostel is open 24 hours, so you can come back anytime. Also there are some things that were not very pleasant but somehow you have to get over them: mosquitos, if your room have windows, there will be plenty of them in your room. Just buy some anti- mosquitos gadget or something at the drugstore before checking-in. And here comes the freaky part – taking the shower. The water temperature change (hot->cold) so fast that washing your body or hair can become a big challenge. Overall it is a good hostel if you stay there 1-4 days, do not spend so much time in room, and accept common amenities.

Good value hostel with minor shortages, not for everyone.

Plus:
We stayed in a group of 3 there and got a 4 bed room just for us. 
It is very central - thats the best part.
Lockers are in every room and for free.

Minus:
As by the other person mentioned, you can hear other people through the walls, because on top there not like a real wall. The water is also changing from hot to cold from time to time, but if you try to take a shower and no one else does it the same time than its okay.
Kitchen is ok if you bring your own knife, everything else is ok.
One of the girls at reception is speaking english, other not. Just Russian.

It seems not like a normal traveller hostel. Some russian people seem to live there.

Central, but with some downsides

We have made an early reservation for a room for a group of people and got the confirmation from the hostel. However, the hostel manager didn't keep their words and wasn't granted a room for the first day. Be prepared to be attacked by mosquitoes during summer. There is an air-con but they refused to switch it on. Quite noisy, poor sound insulator. Hot water problem. The hostel doesn't have any baggage storage room though it was offered in the internet. The luggage was left along a corridor. And it's not free. We were charged 500 ruble for that. In case you have late train/ flight to catch, do consider about this.
