On arrival we received a warm welcome from Staff in the Porter's Lodge.

During our visit we admired the magnificent Entrance Portal and the Historic Buildings, including Dining Hall and Chapel. Wandering through the Fellow Garden and different Courts we were able to see connections to Charles Darwin such as the Sculpture Garden, etc.

Admission was Free.

University College with Charles Darwin Connection

Christ's College is a beautiful and central place to stay in Cambridge and it's great value too. The rooms are much as they have been for hundreds of years. There's no en-suite and no tv, it's peaceful, and there are great views into the grounds. Got a question or a problem? The team at the porter's lodge are super friendly and helpful. 

The porter's team couldn't do enough 

We very much enjoyed our 2 night stay. Room spacious and clean, overlooking lawns. Breakfast in the old hall was great, breakfast in an old hall like that is memorable. Had a drink in the Buttery in First Court, the lager was probably as good as I've had anywhere.
All staff we met were excellent, welcoming and helpful. 
Can't fault.

A place of hospitable learning

I have given this an average review more because of my disappointment than how the room was.
Christ College looked so promising.... and indeed it it is stunning. 
But not all of it....be warned 
So after a lovely day I got back to the porters lodge. I was tired.
I received a map and a key.
I was told I needed to walk through the college 
I got lost twice because what the map did not tell me was the whole of the back of the college was a building site.
So I had to duck under scaffolding and  
Circumnavigate tarpaulin.... it was like a maze.
I eventually found my way to the right place. An ugly block of flats which was certainly not in the lovely Booking.com photos.
Not only that.... a very high Spiral staircase awaited me.
I got to floor 4...
I saw another stair case but it wasn’t to my room.
I then saw another spiral staircase.
Also not to my room.
At that point I figured it was not going to get any better.
So I didn't stay there.
Now this was a personal choice of mine so if you are young and sprightly this might be fine for you.
The room I would have stayed in was Very Cheap.
Not sure if you get an en suite bathroom though.
It is in a central location and the porters are very lovely and friendly.
But it was not for me.
There was an element of misrepresentation here, as although it said in the blurb there was building works, that is an understatement. It did mention stairs but NOT two Spiral staircases.
So I think that needs to be addressed.


A disappointment.

Wonderful, central location and large, clean room. Buttery bar lovely and  definitely worth a visit (cheap) , and gardens beautiful. Only downside was lack of plug sockets in the room, only 2! Bring a multi-plug with you!

Great place to stay

The room was quite big and it was in the center of Cambridge. No hairdryer and fridge in the room.
The breakfast was good but tables were so sticky.

The receptionist was very helpful and they kept our bags for all day.

Interesting stay

Stayed in college rooms with bath on landing. Cheap and clean and full of ambience of years of students. Breakfast for £12 in Upper Hall. Keys for back gate to enter after hours. Smack in the middle of central Cambridge walking distance to everything. Old flagstones and stairs make it less ideal if trouble walking. No on site parking, but 5 min walk to parking garage Grand Arcade.

Central, simple and lots of feeling

Stayed at the College for 3 nights, although room was basic and didn't have all the usual hotel 'treats' i.e. fridge/hairdryer, the room was very spacious with plenty of storage.  The bed/pillows were very comfortable and there was a good shower with a large mirror; the room was spotless.  Private access to the college/grounds was a fabulous experience; the hotel and grounds were immaculate; we even got to walk around the gardens/pool area on our last morning.   Buffet style breakfast was superb.  The College couldn't be anymore central, was in a perfect location.  Was a thoroughly enjoyable experience staying at the College and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Fabulous!

Fabulous place to stay for a few nights  great location and private access to this magnificent college.  Excellent breakfast and over all great value.  We will be back.  Don’t expect “Normal” hotel facilities but 500 years of history and architecture knock false bonhomie from a chain hotel into a cocked hat

Stay here!!

Great accommodation and excellent value for money in the middle of an expensive city, fantastic location.Lovely spacious rooms,comfy beds, good towels and toiletries, tea and coffee and biscuits which were replenished daily.Very helpful staff in the lodge.Would highly recommend staying here
