This was originally booked for two weeks ago but had to be abandoned due to the heavy snow at the last minute but the hotel very nicely rebooked us. We had a very nice room with a super king bed with a free standing bath in the en- suite. Dinner was excellent. We had Scotch egg and calamari to start followed by fish and chips and gammon steak. All were excellent and very well cooked. Ended with sticky toffee pudding which was not too sweet. All in all a really good meal and not too expensive. 
In the bar area there was a wood burning stove giving off plenty of heat and helping with the welcoming atmosphere. Special mention to the owner who is very welcoming and who finds time to talk with his guests and makes them feel at home. It is very much a family run hotel and, as such, makes a welcome change from some of the more chain type places.
We will definitely return later in the year and can whole heartedly recommend Cuckoo Brow.

Me and my partner had a wonderful time staying in the cuckbrow in it was so lovely the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the room we stayed in was beautiful I would love to go and stay again but next time love to take my dog with use and kids

Beautiful place

Traditional pub with real fires. Chose as was dog friendly. Customer service throughout was excellent with all staff going the extra mile. The room was warm and comfortable and both the meal in the evening and the breakfast was excellent. Plenty of parking

Excellent service

Had a lovely stay at the Cuckoo Brow. Freezing snow outside but a warm comfy room inside. Room was spacious and with a lovely view to the front. The room was equipped with everything I needed. Friendly service throughout my stay and particularly at breakfast time where there was plenty on offer: juice, tea, coffee, yoghurts, pastries and a lovely hot Cumbrian breakfast that kept me feeling full for most of the day. Will definitely return!

Great bed and a lovely breakfast!

Enjoyed a lovely one night break at the Inn. Made to feel welcome and our dog was also made to feel welcome too. Room was clean and warm and the bed was nice and comfortable. Great location for walkers and access to Grizedale only a few miles away. Lovely and cosey log fires. Good value for money.

Enjoyable one night break

couldn’t have  been made to feel more welcome by the Staff who are trying there absolute hardest especially with the chef falling unwell we’ve stayed for the past two nights and couldn’t have had a better stay the staff was amazing really tried their hardest to make sure we had the best stay - people should be more considerate to the young people and try to understand instead of slamming them all to the ground!

Regular Diners here for over 10 years. New Owners & New Staff have taken over the Inn.
Having Pre - Booked our table - we noted other diners also sitting waiting for service. An hour and a half later we finally chased up again our order to be told what did we expect with only one chef! 
Won't return unless the place has a total re-fit ( looking very scruffy) & re- hires properly trained & polite staff. Food adequate - chef also needs replacing. 

 

Replace ALL staff. Awful hospitality & food

Went to The Cuckoo Brow Inn for a last minute family break for my birthday, unfortunately when we arrived the chef had just been taken ill and had to go to the hospital, the lady on reception explained our options of having meals at a sister hotel and staying at the Cuckoo Brow or moving to one of the other hotels. After the mention of a pool at another hotel my sons asked for that. The lady on the reception phoned the other hotel straight away and sorted a room for us and also booked us a table for tea. We will try the Cuckoo Brow again the next time we go to the Lake District as the lady was very friendly and helpful. 
Hope the chef makes a speedy recovery.

Stayed at the beginning of November 2023, with our bear. Staff were so helpful and friendly, especially towards our pooch! They couldn't do enough for us! The food was lovely, room was clean. Think our only issue was parking; it's very small and tight but we found out that the hall across the road has some parking for a small donation so yay! Will defo return!

Lovely character!

Found this on Google as one of the places to visit for food, so we commenced our winter weekend break in the Lakes with a Friday lunch. The drive from the south along the west coast of Windermere is beautiful. The entrance to the pub smells musty in an old place charm kind of way and the dining area is light and bright. Not much in the way of soft furnishing- all hard wood pub chairs and tables.
The barman was excellent, very friendly and chatty. A nice man.
We ordered the special steak pie and waited. The Kronenburg lager was sublime. 
What a disappointing meal. The chips looked as though they had been frozen and the pie wasn’t freshly cooked. The good sized chunks of steak were dry. Accompanying the meal were a few solitary, wet sprigs of green something. This ‘pie and chips’ cost over £17!! I don’t mind paying for something special if it is special, but this was way overpriced. At £8, there would be no cause for complaint, but £17, these guys are having a laugh. To rub salt in the wound, I asked for some gravy (we’re from the Midlands and we like it over our chips), they charged an extra £1! Unbelievable. We had driven 3.5hrs and we’re hungry so we ate it and left without complaint. Won’t be wasting my money there again.
