Our stay was pleasant. The room was clean and serviced daily. A continental breakfast is served every morning to your room.  This hotel is very central and walkable to everything. A tram runs past the front door. This hotel is old and basic, the 38 steps to check in is a killer with bad knees or heavy suitcases, even worse if you're on the next level. But the owner was most helpful to carry some of our luggage up and down. This appears quite normal with accommodation in Amsterdam. 

My suggestion is if you have knee problems or heavy suitcases give it a miss.

Excellent location

We reserved a room at this hotel. But circumstances turned out so bad that we couldn’t come. An unforeseen situation - my passport with visa was delayed; it was not ready. We contacted the hotel owner and asked him to cancel without penalty or just reschedule the dates. To which there was a refusal. We didn’t refuse to come, just reschedule our arrival, but he didn’t meet us. We understand that the owner is not obliged to do this. Rules are rules. But there must be some human qualities. Various force majeure circumstances happen in life, and you have to rise to the occasion. This person is too principled, greedy, and for him money comes first. We paid a fine for one day of stay. We just want to warn.... If something happens in people's lives and they cannot come on the planned dates, then all requests for cancellation or changes will be refused, no one cares about your problems. Coolness and prudence!

Greedy owner

The stairs are ridiculously steep, two very difficult sets of stairs to negotiate and I was on the first floor. Unfortunately I was in room 6 overlooking the street with the central tram lines under my window. It was very noisy. 

The owner is quite eccentric and delivers your breakfast to your room at 8:30am and wont stop knocking until you take it from him. He rang me twice after I checked in asking why I hadn't checked in. 

The hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade but it is listed as 2* but I thought €126 a night was expensive.

Fawlty Towers in Amsterdam

Perfect central location near the beautiful Westerkerk. Easy 10-15 mins walk from Centraal. Trains from Schiphol to Centraal are very easy to navigate, short 15-20mins trip, reasonably priced (€5.70) and very frequent (every 10mins early evening).

Staff are welcoming and efficient. Breakfast was delivered to the room around 8.30am as advised on check-in - croissant, bread, cheese, jam, yoghurt, coffee, orange juice and biscuit included.

Room facilities were very good for the rating/price. Comfortable (very soft) bed, much needed tower fan switched on pre-arrival, nice leafy view, flatscreen TV, shower in room and very well maintained shared toilet close by.

Steep narrow stairs may be difficult for some, but more than worth it for the overall experience of staying in such a place and only avoidable by sacrificing on location and character. It exceeded expectations and I'll be very happy to return.

Excellent value, service, location and character

L'host ha cancellato la prenotazione a sole due settimane dal soggiorno, adducendo a "fondi insufficienti" sulla carta  (quando avevano già provveduto ad  una "prioritization" di soli € 150), mettendo a rischio un viaggio ad Amsterdam a lungo pianificato.
Ho avuto la fortuna di trovare una sistemazione diversa (e, si spera, più affidabile).

Awful experience.
The host cancelled my reservation two weeks prior our stay, claiming that there were not enough money on the card (while they had already checked it with a €150 "prioritization"), putting at risk a long-planned trip to Amsterdam.
I was lucky enough to find a different ( and, hopefully, more reliable) accomodation.

Pessima esperienza/Awful experience

If you after the ritz it isn't but its convenient to the centre the room was clean not modern but comfortable continental breakfast every morning asked for balcony and got it staff were nice and the only draw back were the stairs very steep and lots of them 3 flights if your at the top if ya want a balcony lol you are at the top but over all nice you also get a tea tray with kettle and tea bags / coffee / milk would use it again for a cheep trip

Cheeky dam trip for daughters 18th

We five ladies arrived for a lovely trip to Amsterdam and booked a 3 night stay in this hellhole of a hotel. 
We queued at the top of the steep stairs waiting to check in. 
A very tight squeeze and people were unable to navigate around us.  A man whom we assume was the proprietor opened a room door and asked us to step in out of the way we assumed to free up space until we could check in.
The room  could only be described as a small double room with three single beds in it. There is a homemade platform with two mattresses sitting on the floor area above it and made up as two more single beds  so close to the roof it was claustrophobic. Accessed by a vertical homemade ladder loosely attached to the platform. A health and safety risk.

We then discovered we were being left there for the weekend. 
We highlighted this was not the room we booked and this is where the hole situation took a down turn. 
We were told no other room was available this was our room.  This man was arrogant,  condescending ageist. 
Our friend who made our booking pointed out the room was totally unsuitable, a health and safety risk to us and not what she booked. We pointed out to him that if this room was on the website there was no way we would  have book it.
We requested a room with the balcony as advertised  and showing all beds on one level to be told no room like that existed. 
We then decided that we would not stay. 
We were told my friends card would be charged for one night and he would put us down as a no show. He was told he was not to charge the card.  We felt the stay was booked under false pretences as it was a room we would ever book.
I pointed out to him that we had not checked in we were told to stand into the room on our arrival. Both he and a female staff member started to speak in their own language. 
I pointed out to both I found this very rude and should be speaking in English to us if they had something to say about us.
We were told people older than us have stayed in the room and had no issues. 
Again we raised health and safety and told him if anyone fell from or if ladder broke it would be the hotels responsibility. 
This fell on deaf ears. 
So we left the arrogant rude ageist man to source a new hotel. 
To anyone thinking of staying here I certainly would not recommend it to you.


Hellhole hotel

I was traveling with a senior citizen, my mom, this accommodation has no lift/elevator with steep stairs and we stayed in the 3rd floor.  We know about this but we didn't know it was so high to go to just the first floor.  The first floor had high ceiling (even more steps) Good thing on both check in/out the staff was a guy who helped us with the luggage because we have to watch ourselves every time we go up/down (steep stairs). 

Consolation we have a verandah with street view, refrigerator, heater for coffee/thermos, breakfast.  

3 streets from Amsterdam Palace and from there you can see the main train station, there is also a big grocery/supermarket in that corner where majority of tourists buy lunch/snacks/water.

Super helpful staff specially in trying to find our way around.

Steep stairs no elevator! nice view

Located near the royal palace and Wester Kerk, this is a typical, small Amsterdam hotel, with tiny rooms and steep stairs. But, given I needed a centrally located room in the high season (late July), this hotel offered great value, was very clean, and the staff were attentive and friendly. What I gave up for the value-price was that the toilet was down the hall (but shower and sink in my room), no air conditioning, but a fan,  and breakfast is served in your room (basic Dutch breakfast of bread, cheese, some meat, two boiled eggs, and orange juice). I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, if ever I am crazy enough to return to Amsterdam in the hot and tourist-packed summer.

Clean, Friendly, Great Location, Great Value

As everyone pretty much knows, accommodation in Amsterdam is pretty expensive! We found this tiny hotel in the centre, just two minutes walk from Dam Square. We paid 835 euro for 2 people for 7 nights. Not the cheapest but a pretty good deal for an expensive city!
The price included a small breakfast served at our rooms every morning: fresh sliced bread, cheese, salami, boiled eggs, juice and jam. We decided to refuse as the food in the city is so amazing, but still a nice gesture.
The room was very small. Had a nice private shower and sink but we shared a toilet with the other 3 rooms on our floor. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the main street with chairs and a table. The room was spotless clean daily and very comfortable.
The staff was beyond amazing! A family runs this hotel and you can tell they enjoy their business. Sam was wonderful and very helpful. A+ for the exceptional service!
The only downside was the steep staircase which you have to carry your luggage up and down...not very safe. Would not recommend for very unfit or elderly persons with mobility issues.
All in all, we were very happy and enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I highly recommend it!
