After a long trip we stayed in this wonderful place. Absolutely gorgeous. New furniture, well designed. We had all we needed. Besides the location is great, parking places available . Our balcony was with nice sea view. All was just perfect.

Just had breakfast at the place. When you order an English breakfast with beans, eggs and sausages you’d expect it to be warm and freshly made. There’s plenty of room for improvement. You could make the breakfast on the spot instead of serving a cold plate with wrinkled sausages and ham that have been lying around. And you could preheat the plate to have happy customers who enjoy the warm breakfast they expect.

Disappointing breakfast

We would never stay there again, as it was very overpriced for what we got. The mattress was hard, we couldn't close the window properly so it was unsafe,  the AC costs extra and works with coins, holes in bedsheets from cigarettes,  no bin provided and a bad smell in the room.
I'm glad we only stayed there 1 night.

Very underwhelming and overpriced 

The  location is great. The rooms are very very basic.  (A strange thing - one needs to put a coin in to operate the aircon.)
Our room was clean. The bed is a tiny double bed but was comfortable. 

Breakfast also basic - no fresh fruit. The coffee was great though.

Very Basic

We are travelling quite extensively around Europe for six months so have stayed in a huge variety of hotels, motels, guest houses and Air Band Bs.
We arrived in Gozo having booked 9 nights in Electra and paid in advance. In fact our friend had booked it on her Booking.com on our request as we had been out of range for a while.
We arrived about 9pm having informed them that we would be checking in late. We were given the key  to our room 4 flights of stairs up (no lift but that’s ok, we didn’t expect it). As we went into our room the first thing we noticed was dirty underwear and other clothing on the floor. Frankly this was a shock and quite disgusting and disappointing. Furthermore, my partner went to use the toilet and the toilet seat fell off. Concerned about the lack of attention to detail in respect of cleaning (even I noticed the dirty underwear that I nearly tripped over) we asked to change rooms. This was done albeit reluctantly by the owner/manager. The owner very clearly stated though that we would need to return to the original room once it had been cleaned (the next day). 
We stayed the night in the new room, which was ok, however there was no soap, no flannels, no water glasses, the bathroom lights did not work and there was no shower mat, all of which seem to have been available in other budget accommodation. At night, the room was lit up(apart from the actual lights that didn’t work) with lights from the AC, the AC coin box (yes the AC was pay as you use) and a number of other lights. Also the AC was leaking to the extent that there was a puddle on the floor, an obvious hazard. We had decided to ask if we could stay in that room for the duration of our stay (despite the issues) as it seemed cleaner. However in the middle of our  breakfast (which was decidedly average) the owner interrupted us to bark at us about the room and a comment our friend  had made on booking.com. We were calm and polite and explained that we would happily stay if we could change rooms. We mentioned the puddle of water on the floor from the AC. She became angry and rude. At which point we decided that we no longer wished to stay. We politely explained this to her. Her immediate reaction was not one of attempted resolution but of anger and defensiveness stating that she would not give us a refund. We said we would pay for the night that we had stayed but now wished to check out. She refused to offer any conciliation, stating that we will need to take it to Booking.com. Which we will. But, even on a budget, and having paid in advance, we would rather risk losing our money than stay there another night.
We found a beautiful place literally around the corner, much nicer and much cheaper. I would strongly advise people to avoid Electra at all costs. The accommodation is poor, shabby and unclean. It is certainly not the refurbished place that was advertised. That’s ok though, we don’t mind basic. We will not put up with rude behaviour and poor customer service though. The owner could have resolved this but chose not to.

Worst experience yet….and we have stayed in some bad places

Having spent one night at the Electra Guesthouse I can definitely say that it will be my last!

On arrival I rang the bell at the reception desk 3 times before giving up and heading to the bar area. Asking the bar man if I could check in I was given the key to my room.  He did not ask for my name  or any form of ID - I literally could have been anyone!

I had booked a single room costing €36 for the night including breakfast.  The room was extremely compact but it’s saving grace was that it was spotlessly clean and sported a beautiful view from the balcony overlooking Marsalform Bay. 

More on the room… the single bed led to a terrible night’s sleep. The mattress had clearly seen better  days with any cushioning being flattened over the years and the springs trying their best to poke through from the mattress cover.  The single pillow had also seen better days leaving very little support as I attempted to sleep.

One of the ceiling lights needed a new bulb and the rickety wardrobe had its sliding doors almost jammed shut.  The en-suite shower room was almost as big as the bedroom and although cleaned to a good standard room one of the spotlights above the shower cubicle was hanging loose from its ceiling recess with the wires visible.

Upon returning to the guesthouse around 10pm the main door was locked.  This was advised at “check-in” and a key was provided.  Upon entering the hallway was in almost complete darkness except for a small table lamp sitting on the reception desk.  I had to use the torch on my phone to find the way to my 2nd floor room.

The next morning following a very restless sleep I decided against showering as I was put off by the loose light fitting.  Breakfast was complimentary but given my experience I decided against having it opting to eat elsewhere.  Upon checkout the reception desk was unmanned, I simply left my room key on the counter and swiftly left.

I very much regret having a poor experience at the Electra Guesthouse, with a bit of love, care & attention it could be a hidden gem!

Wish I had stayed elsewhere.

We had two full English breakfasts which were great, with a lemon pancake which was also good. We also had a cinnamon one which you should avoid unless you really like cinnamon. Milkshakes were also good, latte was average.

We didn’t stay in the hotel.

Family breakfast

We read the mixed reviews before booking but we were still disappointed. 1) There is no elevator and we were given a room on the 4th floor (even though we had a young child). 2) we booked a triple room but we given a double, the only room left (take it or leave it) 3) the air conditioning is coin operated 4) the parking is a walk away 5) the shower was broken and the plug blocked, the water did not flow away 6) the tv remote did not have batteries 7) the breakfast was poor 8) the €120 was overpriced 9) the owners are not very welcoming 10) the balcony is not safe for children

Read reviews so you know what to expect

Stayed here for a weekend, rooms were plain, decent, bathrooms are very nice. The Guest house is spotless clean, lovely staff, good coffee and breakfast. Close to the sea, to many restaurants and bus stop. Would recommend. 

Lovely place

I’ve stayed in this guesthouse and I must say my stay was above expectations. The room was cozy and nice and quite spacious. Very nice view from the balcony, the place is clean and well-maintained. Most of all I liked the family who runs the business and their employees. People are really friendly and willing to add “the little extra”. They were asking me about my travel plans, brought some fruit when I asked and didn’t make any issue when I left the room half an hour overtime (though I don’t encourage everyone to do the last mentioned thing here by writing this). I am willing to recommend this guesthouse to everyone asking me for travel tips about Gozo.
