Not a bad little place.

Stayed here for the weekend, nice location with loads of places to eat and drink.

Only 10mins away for the pier and easy to walk around. 

The hotel it self was good but it can do with an update.

Good location and is safe.

Decent place 

A week in San Francisco, not too expensive! The hotel, well located, is functional. The room is clean and convenient. Shower and toilet outside.... we get used to it. The staff is professional and competent.

In the heart of San Francisco

On my recent saty in San Francisco I was not able to get 7 nights in the same place at a reasonable cost.  I ended up staying in 4 different locations at nigh rates ranging from $45 (shared room) to $65 a night (before tax).  This was the second most expensive and the second best of teh bunch - but that's not saying anything great.  As with two of the other places, the real let down is the fact that there are not enough showers and restrooms on each floor (no en-suite here) and more importantly what the state of these were like.  
I'd also suggest that the owners really ought to invest just a little more in cleaning, and then have the paintork properly rubbed down and repainted.  For a small investment this place could give so much better an impression.
Yes I could stay here again if push came to shove, but I'd rather aim for the other hotel over in the Tenderloin at ablout the same price that was so much more immediately welcoming in looks and feel - especially the freshly and neatly tiles rest room and shower!

Cheap - but not great, particularly the state of shared shower & restroom

This place if you looking from outside looks great + it's located in a great neighborhood.

Inside... 
Dirty, discusting, restrooms never cleaned on time, crazy people up and down and much more.
It's managed by a family of Indian people, they are rude and hard to talk with.

Never ever again here...

Terrible, bad service

The best thing going with this place is that they have some of the lowest nightly rates ($55 a night) in San Francisco (other than hostels).  The hotel is very nicely located also, in between Chinatown and Fisherman’s wharf and is located right on Columbus Avenue, right on the bus routes and the Bay and Taylor cable car route.    
 
Hard to really call this place a true “hotel” since they also allow weekly and monthly stays.  

The hotel is easy to find, it is located right next to the comedy club.  When you first arrive at the hotel you have to press a buzzer to get into the place.  From there you have to walk up 2 steep stairways to get to the main floor with the front desk.  The front desk is basically a window (the clerk is inside that room).  Upon checking in you will receive 1 room key and 1 key for the hotel front door.  Not sure how many floors there are but on the main floor where my room was you will find a bathroom with only a shower, another bathroom room with only a toilet and 1 bathroom with both a shower and toilet.  

My room was very simple, 1 full sized bed, 1 tv with the standard local channels, dresser drawer, 1 chair, 1 small fridge and a small closet to hang my clothes and store my suitcase.  The floor was wood so you could hear the creaks when you walked around.  No bathroom so I had to use the shared bathrooms on the floor.  It looks like they changed the hallway carpets recently and maybe painted the walls because they looked in decent shape.  The bathrooms I would consider “substandard”, something I would find in school locker rooms.  Bring along slippers because I wouldn’t want to walk around the bathroom without it.  I don’t think they had daily cleaning of your rooms, I think they might do it weekly and after you check out.  No fans or a/c or heater so it may be warm during the summer and cold during the winter.  

Wifi was available, just ask the front desk for the name and password to access their signal.  

The neighborhood is relatively safe with many eateries within walking distance.  Lombard street is at the next intersection so you can get a good view looking up at the crooked street.  Washington Square park is 2 blocks away.  

I would recommend asking for a room away from Columbus Avenue  as you hear the traffic noise and the ding of the cable cars continuously.  Also because the Comedy Club is next door you will hear people waiting in line to get into the club below and after they get out of the show.  One “plus” is that you can sit on the stairs going up to the main floor if you want to hear the comedy club show for free.  Unfortunately some guest (probably a regular resident) thought  it was funny to lock one bathroom door (door locks from the inside) and take the toilet paper in the other bathroom so beware before you sit on the throne.  

This place would be considered a “dump” to many so if you are particular or don’t want to see mold or dingy surroundings I would suggest staying elsewhere but for $55 you get what you pay for in san fran.  Most hotels (even dumps) are usually in the $100 and up range so this was a good deal for me and I would consider staying here again if I couldn’t find any better rates.   I wouldn't recommend this place for couples, females or families, better to pay more for a nicer hotel.
