A Group of us stayed at the Grand Hotel in October 2017. I found it to be a great base of operation to explore one of the busiest cities in the world. We were away from the touristy areas, and were able to spend more time with the local people seeing their way of life. 

The entrance is behind the hotel in a little courtyard, which has a back-street coffee shop where you can spend a few hours smoking a shisha pipe and playing cards or backgammon. Within a few feet is a little kiosk to buy water and snacks, and within 5 minutes is a pharmacy, ATM and money changing place so you'll never have to go far for essentials. 

Everything near this location is CHEAP! You'll spend far less here than near the big hotels, for example an ice-cream sundae was less than 50p down the street, compared to about £2 for a simple ice lolly near the big attractions. 

The rooms are basic but comfortable. Ours had a massive bathroom but I don't believe all rooms have this. You could always ask when booking. Breakfast is traditional Egyptian, but with pastries, breads and cornflakes if you're not very adventurous. The staff are all lovely and helpful, particularly the lift guys. 

For the price you can't really go wrong, save your spending money for the adventures you'll have outside!

A great place from which to explore the 'real' Cairo

Grand Hotel is an old hotel in a good location right on the corner of Talaat Harb and 26th July Streets. Some of the rooms have been refurbished which makes staying here more pleasant. They have rooms with balconies overlooking a produce market in an alley off Talaat Harb. Breakfast is included and there is also an on-site restaurant. One of the really nice things about this hotel is the very old open wrought-iron elevators, which is a feature of old buildings in Cairo but which are steadily disappearing. There are lots of restaurants and coffee shops in the surrounding area, as well as immediate access to several main shopping streets. Many tourist sites in the downtown area are within walking distance. Reception and housekeeping staff are very pleasant and helpful. Overall a relaxing and positive stay at Grand Hotel.

Convenient hotel, central location

We have stayed at this hotel many times since 1975.the hotel is located in central Cairo. You enjoy and have access to all shops. Hotel rooms are cleaned daily.staff very helpful.breakfast is very good.

Very nice hotel in central cairo.

Great location in downtown and easy to reach the other side of the river, the Egyptian museum and Khan el-khalili. Although a bit dated, the rooms are very big, staff are nice and have loads of convenience shops, a local food market. loads of places and restaurants to grab a meal as well. The breakfast selection is great too - from savoury to sweet options.

great location off the beaten path

The hotel have good location in the downtown area, it is near almost all important streets and areas.
There is no hotel parking however there is parking near by in the street that is overcrowded at day time and is good at night. The rooms are clean and neat but very old decoration with old CRT television which has almost gone from all hotels worldwide. There are no extra electricity plugs to charge your phone or laptop; you have to take of either the TV or fridge to power your device. The toilet is clean with clean towels, poor quality soap and no shampoo or slippers.
The beds are not so comfortable but they are good enough to spend your night and have sleep.
The breakfast is good with good variety.
The value for money is not good as you pay more than 500 EGP per night but it may be due to its viable location.
