I was staying in Theth, at another accommodation. However, my second night was inadvertently double booked, and I was found another place to stay in Theth, namely Guesthouse Rupa.  This was late in the day, and I did not have time to look for an alternative place, so I moved my stuff to the Rupa. I was charged €30 for a room without private bathroom.  And, when I asked for a key, the woman running the place told me she doesn't give out keys. This in a place where  construction work was being carried out. I must say that the host was very arrogant when I told her that I was not pleased. She said, if you don't like it, go away. 

Arrogant host

We stayed there in campervan for one night. Before driving in, we asked about the price to camp and to fill water. Were told it was 7 euro. After parking (camping ground is just a small field with no facilities), we went to find out about the possibility to have a dinner; as mentioned in other reviews everything is overpriced - 8 euro for a dinner; but also after seeing the kitchen where everything was cooked, we decided not to eat there. The kitchen is a small wooden shed outside of the house, literary like an animal shelter. The level of hygiene is really questionable in such conditions, but obviously, we didn't say anything. The next morning, after we filled water and went to pay, she decided to charge us extra 3 euro for water.  Basically, she didn't want to give change from 10 euro note. At the end of the day, its not about the money, we would be happy to pay it, if she was honest and told us all prices when we asked. I had a feeling that this lady was very selective when she decides to understand or don't understand English. Shame, but things like that can spoil the experience.

Overpriced and dishonest

We went camping for €3 per person per night. We didn't take dinner because of the price (€8). Breakfast was also expensive (€4) but was also quite good. As camping guests, we were allowed using the basic bathroom and toilet on the ground floor of the house and WiFi. The landlady Rosa is friendly and takes good care of her guests. Also, she speaks both German and English quite well. Overall a good experience, especially if you don't mind the pricing.

Good, but a bit overpriced

The hostess of Rupa with her English and German speaking assistant will do anything to make your stay comfortable and are just incredibly kind and hospitable people. Accomodation is basic but clean and food is excellent and gives an overview of what is made by the villagers.

Hospitality first

To be honest, I am really surprised that this guest house was recommended by Lonely Planet. 

We arrived after hiking from Valbona to Theth, and after 6 hours hiking, we're looking forward to hot showers and a sit down. Unfortunately there is not a sign anywhere telling you where the guest house is (not even out the front!) and after wandering aimlessly for an our some local kids finally escorted us to the guesthouse.

The property itself was quite run down and in need of some repairs. Our room had a tricky lock, which we elected to keep unlocked as it could prove a fire hazard. The main bedroom light did not work, luckily we had a torch. The bathroom was dirty and lots of hair clogged the shower plug hole. There was also no hot water - which was a shame after our long hike. There was a hole in the bathroom door which was crudely repaired with duct tape. Some of the stairs leading up to the rooms were in disrepair and seemed a bit dodgy. 

Meals were expensive - €8 per person for dinner (this is comparatively expensive), especially considering there are literally no other options. There was also no information telling us how much meals would cost. Breakfast was €3 per person - we thought it was out of the ordinary to charge for breakfasts, a first on our trip.

The guest house was run by the owner's sister. Her English was good, but she wasn't very friendly or welcoming. It felt as though everything was an inconvenience for her (including settling the bill). 

The guest house was able to organise a bus back to Shkodra for €10, which picked us up from the property.

Over all, look for other options before booking this one.

Disappointing and not value for money 

We had a wonderful stay at Guesthouse Rupa. The family was wonderful - very warm and accommodating. And the food was tasty - though a bit overpriced (considering there are no markets/restaurants in the area, so you don't have many options but to pay the €5 breakfast + €8 dinner pp every day).

The rooms were okay - could be cleaned/repaired for a better experience. Also wish we'd had citronella candles. 

Overall - good experience. And we absolutely loved their precious kitty!!

Lovely family

The little old lady who runs the place is just lovely, happy to make you delicious tea whenever, cooked amazingly fresh food, helped us make a little campfire outside, made sure we had everything we needed at all times and did it all for a very reasonable and inexpensive price. There were some bugs in the room, which I think was to be expected because of the extremely remote location and 300+ year old historic home. The beds were quite firm, but much more cozy than camping! Her cat also had 3 week old kittens when we stayed and they were absolutely adorable. Great place to meet other interesting travelers, too!
