We are staying here for two nights (February, 2014).  The room has basic accommodation conditions.  Considering that we are the only guests and the running costs would be high, the price increase here is acceptable (Don't expect to spend less here than in Istanbul).  Now, the only hotel staff is the owner. He is responsible for repairing the heater  (There was a bug last night), making breakfast and dinner, and providing travel consultation.  Pictures are the heater we relied on, breakfast (included) and dinner (paid separately).

This is an option if staying overnight near Hattusa.

I stayed here for two days last week.  My friends were in an adjoining room and experienced the same issues. There was no hot water, even though I ran the tap for 5 mins as advised, the room was cold and basic.  The heater took hours to warm the room, the furniture looked like it was from the 70s and should have been disposed of many years ago, the bathroom was mouldy and there was water leaking across the floor, from where I do not know, there was no drinking water supplied, and the rooms were not cleaned, or towels changed during our stay.  Additionally, the breakfast was basic and the restaurant dinner expensive and very ordinary.  I could not recommend this hotel, or the one across the road which we were moved to.  They are both owned by the same family. Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in during my 30+ years of international travel.

DREADFUL

These two hotels (across street from each other & owned by same famlly) have mixed reviews. Though the family was very nice & tried to be helpful, we can't recommend it; this is a large complex & apparently much busier during the tourist season; there were only 3 guests total and we made up 2 of them so felt not particularly important;  we had made a reservation on-line & arrived to be told that price was only for a tiny, downstairs room w/2 twin beds; room upstairs much more expensive without breakfast; eventually they agreed to include breakast though it didn't amount to much (worse we had in 3 weeks traveling throughout Turkey); during our 2 night stay we never had hot water; they did offer us use of shower in a room across street in the other hotel (we didn't do this; felt like hassle in cold, rainy weather & wanted hot water to wash hands not just shower); refused to discount price; dinners were OK but very limited offerings for vegetarians & they kept trying to serve us meat after we repeatedly told them (English & Turkish) we didn't eat meat; the grounds are well kept, rooms very plain & very cold even with heat; was cold while we were there & rooms didn't warm up during day; heater was located high on the wall & didn't heat the room very well; good location for exploring the ruins; very nice walk & great little museum; we didn't realize there were other hotels up in the town & along the road to Hittusa so suggest checking around; ruins were great!

Look around before staying here

The place we'd booked Hotel Baykal was closed because of death in the family. So Asigoklu gave us a room in  their connected Hittite Houses which was a bit cheaper than in the hotel. There were a few good points - reasonably sized rooms, lots of towels, very quiet, good location, helpful staff. But sadly also serious negatives - the room was VERY cold even in the day when the temperature was warm. There was no hot water. And the breakfasts were ridiculously stingy. In three weeks of independent travel in northeast and central Anatolia this was the most expensive & least satisfactory hotel we've stayed in. So we wouldn't recommend it unless, like us, you were stuck

we spent here only one night, but we still have a big memories for this place and especially friendly family, who own this hotel. hotel offers everything we needed, parking, breakfast and they arranged us great dinner. I can only recommend this place. Thank you for your service!

complete tourist trap attitude, terrible, VERY expensive lousy food, lousy breakfast, rancid butter, useless WIFI, mostly lousy attitude by old guys who cuss you out, terrible, worn out tiny bed, very early morning geese and rooster noise. 1 mile walk uphill from village center, not fun. Much better places in the village.

By All Means the Wrong Place To Stay in Bogazkale

While we did not stay overnight, we received a very warm late afternoon welcome from the proprietor who was the leading local in a BBC documentary made some years ago about the Hittites. You cannot miss him as he has striking blue eyes. He also owns the hotel across the street which offers the buffet. We were generously offered complimentary tea, partly as our guide was a friend or acquaintance. The washrooms were outside which could be an issue in inclement weather. The Hittite Houses look kitschy and can make no further evaluation. My rating speaks to the hospitality rather than the institution. This accommodation is in the middle of the town and a short walk from the museum.

Star Attraction

   Stayed here just last night. 

Rooms were adequate but the hot water just stopped half way through shower .Staff didn't fix and just said wait half hour to one hour. When still not working went to look for staff but no one at office anymore. Dinner and lunch were overpriced and very average. When we went to check out ruins they asked us to take our luggages out and leave outside near the truck at a time when we were the only guests there. We aid have liked to had shower after get changed etc. Also set us up with a guide who had very limited English.

Poor stay

Bogazkale is a small town, and in low season Hittite Houses and Asikoglu (owned by the same people, I believe) were the only lodging with restaurant on premise that served dinner, so I stayed there at the recommendation of the local travel agent.  

The room was basic but functional, heated, and fairly comfortable.  The shower had nice hot water, which was great after a cold, drizzly day exploring the ruins.  There was no separation between shower and the rest of the bathroom so the floor did get wet.  But given the dry weather there, by morning the bathroom was dry.  

The location was close to the museum as well as a short drive to Hattusa.  Because transportation information was iffy during the low season and I was traveling as a solo female, I hired a driver through a reputable travel agency to accompany me for this portion of the trip (which turned out to be a good idea as the weather was not great and I was pretty much the only visitor to all the sites). But the distance to Hattusa and Yazilikaya seemed walkable.

Breakfast was standard, with a nice simit.  Lunch and dinner were made to order, and the ingredients were fresh.  I was not feeling too well prior to arriving in Bogazkale, and Deniz the manager was accommodating and suggested dishes that might better suit my needs each day ahead of time (lunch and dinner dishes/time were always confirmed ahead of time because the restaurant was serving just me and my driver).  Too bad I was not feeling too well and did not have much of an appetite, otherwise I would have eaten more. :)

Deniz was very nice, spoke really good English, quite knowledgeable and helpful with information, but only when I initiated the conversation or asked questions, which seemed a little different from what others have described here, especially those who were there as the only guests as well.  I am guessing perhaps it was because I was the only guest there (aside from my driver) and a female, so he kept (quite) a respectful distance as not to make me feel uncomfortable.  When I did ask him about the food from the restaurant and about information regarding the Hittites that aren't currently available to the general public, he spoke with a lot of interest and passion. I wish I had more time to chat and learn from him.

Deniz's father was there during the day and the evenings after Deniz's off work.  A very nice gentleman.  I would sometimes stay in the lobby/dining room after dinner and have tea with him and my driver while they watched TV, but I usually turn in early because of the long days walking around the ruins. 

Overall a nice comfortable stay with hospitable hosts while visiting Hattusa.  I felt safe and taken care of even though I was there as a solo female traveler.
