This is the worst "hostel" I have ever stayed in. First it is listed on booking.com as "Royal Castle Centre" but on google is is listed as "Hostel Pod Wawelem", which we only found out after we had to phone them (yes an international call) because we were unable to find them. We arrived and even though we had called them 10 minutes before there was no one at reception, we had to call them again. Then we were taken to our room, we had booked a double room, they put us in a twin room and when we told them we had booked a double the man said "it is a double room, there are 2 beds you can push them together we don't mind", we wouldn't have minded getting a twin room if it had been advertised as this. Their card machine wasn't working so he told us to take cash out and pay them in the morning, which we did, we went to pay at the reception the next morning and they had already taken the money from our bank, so we had extra cash we didn't need, we were only staying in Poland 2 nights. The walls were so thin, we were on the 3rd floor and could hear people coming in the front door. This "hostel" is basically a bunch of apartments that share the same stairwell. We had asked if we could leave our bags at reception on the day we checked out as we had a day trip and they said it was fine. We went to check out and there was no one at reception so again we had to call them. They said they would be 10 minutes. We waited 15 minutes and still no one. So we called them again only to have our calls rejected multiple times. We had to leave our bags with the cleaning lady who only spoke Russian, and told us that there is no one at reception until 2pm (check out was 11am), luckily for us I speak Russian but other people visiting may not. We had to leave our bags in someone else's dormitory in lockers that did not lock. There is no security, someone was trying to get into our room at 4am. This was not worth the 100ZL/£20 that we paid to stay here. I would have rather slept outside in a tent, we would have had better a better sleep and more security, this place is awful.

Literally the worst place i have ever stayed in

I have traveled throughout Europe all my life and been to many, many hostels. This one is definitely the worst one I have ever been. 

Firstly - if only someone manages to go through the main gate to the house - can enter the hostel and stay there. It is not safe. In theory, any homeless person could easily sneak in and live there for a while. 

Secondly - the owners (or people who run it) are NEVER there. Like NEVER! I came back one night after the neighbours from the building let me in and there was a disabled woman who stayed in the kitchen for the entire night because since she arrived no one turned up. She left at 5 am looking for another place. On my arrival, there was a group of Italians who were waiting for two hours to be accommodated.

Whey they turned up, the guys who run it, they looked like heroin addicts. The guy was super skinny and very nervous and picking his nose all the time when talking to me and mumbling. To add insult to the injury - it turned out that he lived there, in the same room as I did, the bed above me. He was playing rap music on full volume of his mobile from the very morning waking up everyone in the room. Yes, the guy who is in charge of the place.

The only person who was able to take payments was never there. Their card terminal has 'just broken' and they had no change to give. 

No soap in soap dispensers. No toilet paper in the toilets.
Lockers for valuables were broken.

Also - they claim to be 24/7 but it was next to impossible to get back in at night after a night out. on the last day, they told me there was an access code, but forgot to tell me this earlier.

And also - the breakfast - there was nothing for vegetarians, excluding bread and olives.

Two stars because of the location, which was good.

Krakow has a multitude of good hostels. Go elsewhere.

Don't! Just don't!

14 of us stayed here for a stag do so didn’t want anything special. However, some small improvements would make a big difference! The first point would be that the hotel sign outside doesn’t even say Royal Castle Centre... It’s called something else so it’s very misleading and can make it to difficult to find. Most of the taxis didn’t have a clue were it was. Secondly when we got there we had to phone them the come and open up as there wasn’t anyone there. This was about 6pm and about -8 and had to stand outside for about 20 minutes. 

Once we got Inside the rooms were clean and were there plenty of showers etc. There was a well equipped kitchen but we didn’t use it. Another basic issue was there was 1 toilet roll for the whole hostel...when we asked for some the lady had to go to the shop to buy some! 

A few tweaks and some more staff, rather than 1 person, I think the hostel would be a lot more popular. If you want basic and cheap you can’t really go wrong for the money and the hostel is in a good location about a 10 minute walk to the square. 

Stag Do

This hostel is very basic. There were only two in the part of the hostel we stayed in; this was for ~30 people. The showers are modern. 
The location is excellent and you are 5 minutes walk from all the main sites.
It was just extremely basic, service was non-existent.
