Also something more than three stars, the small hostel and a little anonymous. A large shared bathroom, with soaps available. No hair dryers and towels in the room. The receptionist was kind. The common area was a fairly well-equipped kitchen.

First hostel in Vilnius

Safe hostel and very easy access thanks to the info of the host. Shoes to be left at the entrance (although not all comply with this rule) Clean rooms and common areas, bathrooms not too large.

It's convenient.

We are a family of 4 and stayed at Mikalo House for 3 nights in January 2023.

Easy check out and out. Good budget option.

Bed's were very soft but we slept fine. Hot water for shower etc was fine. We booked the whole 6  bedroom dorm on the top floor as wanted a private bathroom.

Good location.

There is no lounge area and a small kitchen which made it hard to sit and talk with our friends.

Our blueberries were eaten from the fridge!! Our friend's son pasta was also eaten!! But other food was left! Big fridges and freezers. Heaps of utensils in the kitchen. 

All kept very clean and tidy. 

As long as you realise you are staying in a budget hostel then you'll have no issues!! All fine for us :)

Family stay in Jan 2023

I was persuaded to stay here on account of the location and the 'excellent' reviews I'd read.
The only thing that's excellent is the location- very handy indeed for the sights of the old town. I can't quibble about that, but here goes….
The night of my arrival was a near disaster. The code for the gate worked fine. The code for the keybox didn't and after several stressful moments I whatsapped the owner who luckily gave me a code that worked. (The keypad is essential because unless you're arriving between 10 am and 1 pm, then your only means of access is to retrieve your key from a box outside the property, because the hostel is otherwise unstaffed) 
The next day two other guests had the same problem with the keypad with similarly stressful consequences. Fortunately for them, I was around and able to assist them. 
The room I stayed in was adequate but unfortunately right next to the toilet and the kitchen, ie, noisy, especially when guests congregated in the kitchen during the evening. Facility wise, the tap in the toilet sink was lopsided. Even worse, one of the two bathrooms upstairs was completely out of action,gutted, and full of workmen's tools. The sink in the other bathroom was also out of action and covered in hazard tape, but at least the shower worked.
On my third night there, the toilet roll in the downstairs toilet had run out, which I was flabbergasted by.
I could  moan about no breakfast being available but I know this isn't de rigeur- not a problem for me personally.
The place could also have been cleaner, the toilet and kitchen bins emptied more frequently ( they were invariably full) and also less noisy. I could hear every syllable of a conversation in the next room and every cough and splutter, not to mention drunken voices in the kitchen (my earplugs came in handy).
On the plus side, the kitchen was clean and  well appointed and the one staff member I encountered, albeit briefly, was very pleasant and understanding when I told her I might cut my stay short and didn't pressure me to pay up instantly on account of this.
However,I can certainly say, with absolute conviction, that this property is definitely not  a 9/10. This rating is scandalous. Realistically a 7/10 is more accurate. Not a bad hostel, but with a little effort and more consideration, could be much better.

Great location is the hostel's best feature

A good location. For a visit to Vilnius in order to get acquainted with the old city - just great. All the attractions are within easy reach. Nearby the public transport stop, including from the airport, the Wi-Fi worked well, communication with the administrator was operational, the day before the check-in was provided with detailed instructions on self-registration in the hotel. The room is spacious, with a balcony, an excellent writing table. Heating is regulated. For sleeping beds excellent, comfortable mattress, soft pillow. At night it was quiet.

Excellent hostel in the city centre.

Because of the great reviews I booked 2 nights at Mikalo House. It was indeed really great. Very friendly staff, clear arrival/check in instructions, very clean room and bathroom. The location is great too. Everything is in walking distance. To reach the accommodation from the Airport I took bus 88 both way. It drops you off just 4 minutes walk from the hostel.

Very pleasant stay, I recommend it!

Very nice, central and clean structure. Availability of reception and complete information for self-check in. Possibility to leave luggage even after check out. Large kitchen to be used at will, safe courtyard with access via code at the gate.

It's a great hostel.

Everything about this place is awesome but above all the staff is extraordinary. The host - Asta - goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and ensure you have a nice stay. 

The dorm rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable.  Lockers are available in the room.   I can't wait to come back!

You won't be disappointed!!

This hostel is clean, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Location is great, right in the heart of old town. The kitchen is well equipped. Owners are very helpful in terms of giving you advice for what to do in Vilnius. Great stay.

Great stay

From March 17, Lithuania closed its borders to foreigners and imposed a quarantine. He wrote a letter directly to the hotel asking for money back due to the inability to get into the country and a similar request through Booking. No response from the hotel followed, the request for a refund was rejected.
