Wow! I came here to lodge my disappointment but am astonished to see the same behaviour has been meted out to people since 2019 and nothing has changed.
Well, the waiters were quite decent but the lady at the counter probably had the same reason for not to smile or behave professionally to customers. I won't go into details here but will only hope they improve their customer interaction in this day when heritage establishments are struggling hard to maintain their clientele and "good" image. 
I have noted someone from the establishment kindly reads the reviews here. So, they can contact me for exact date/time in case it is not clear who this person is.
I only hope their reputation is not spoiled due to this while their product (the cake, Black Forest cake) was the best we had had during our trip.

The tradition of rudeness continues...

Unbelievable!! We visited with extended family and this cafe just spoiled the whole black forest experience for us. The cafe staff refused to look at us when spoken to about the black forest cake, (asked 2 ladies) repeatedly didn't attend when we said we wanted black forest. To the point that both ladies were ready to serve many other who kept coming after us and 7 of us standing there waiting. Can't believe even now that at this age some people can be so openly ill mannered. 
All of us there felt like the woman were being racist but would still give some benefit of doubt that probably they were having bad day or don't have good manner and our family was in receiving end. Our 5 year old was very disappointed about nobody serving us cake, won't forget the way you treated us. Hope some sense prevails and you treats others well.

Terribly rude staff in the cafe

The place itself is lovely and the cakes were wonderful. I visited with a group of friends on holiday and will never return. Despite us speaking in English between ourselves we ordered and communicated with the staff in the best German possible out of respect. However the old woman who served us was incredibly rude from start to finish.
She was very annoyed that we didn't know what we wanted to order before we had actually sat down, then brought the wrong drinks for 2 of our guests which in her mind was completely our fault! When I wanted to order a milkshake they didn't have any so I then looked at the menu to choose an alternate drink and she told me to hurry up because the cafe was busy!
Upon waiting 20 minutes for the bill, she had added an extra cake which we asked to be removed, again this seemed to be a huge inconvenience for her.
Despite us waiting a long time for the bill to arrive she did not give us the courtesy to allow us time gather the money amongst ourselves and stood rolling her eyes, huffing and puffing and then stormed off before returning every 30 seconds or so with the same cold manner. Ultimately she has ruined what was otherwise a wonderful visit to triberg. 
The toilets were not particularly clean and the ladies toilet had no toilet tissue. 
It is safe to say we did not leave a tip and I would not recommend this place at all. 

The rudest staff member I have ever met! 

I have spent one night at this place and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone!

1. There was no person at the reception and we could get in and check in only by passing through the attached bakery.
2. The reception and the common spaces stink as stable manure! Was it cow or horse dung?! It's unbelievable.
3. There's a general lack of maintenance, e.g. the veneer on door handles and knobs is faded: is it too difficult to paint them?
4. In our room two electric sockets didn't work at all.
5. A light at the entrance of our room was almost burned out, whereas one of the two in the bathroom was fully blown.
6. Wi-fi in our room has no covering: I had to use the 3G of my smartphone.
7. The TV has only a limited selection of German channels: no English, French, Italian or Spanish channels were available.
8. The pillows were soft and hollow.
9. The mattress was hard as stone, and not because it was some sort of orthopaedic model: it was just bad! I simply couldn't sleep!
10. At night there was no one I could call so as to fix at least the pillow problem.
11. At the attached bakery,  a small teapot with a very banal English Breakfast Tea was charged € 4.20, to be compared to € 3.20 for a slice of a rather uninspiring Black Forest Cake.
12. The breakfast hall was infested by flies.

If all these factors impose a very negative evaluation, I would try to mention at least two positive notes:
1. The breakfast buffet was abundant, although no drinking water was to be seen.
2. The old gentleman serving breakfast in the early morning was very kind and polite.

A disaster!

I've tried the black forest cake and my husband the chocolate cake. Really nice environment, good service and perfect cakes! The chocolate cake was my favorite, and the cappuccino and latte macchiato were well made :)

Great coffee and cakes

Stayed for one night and quite enjoyed the Hotel Café Adler, even though my room was on the top floor as per usual 'I'm lucky like that'. The room was quite large with roof beams running through and had a sofa & coffee table, great for watching TV in comfort, it even had a working mock cuckoo clock on the wall. The shower was big and all was spotlessly clean as well. Wifi only worked downstairs though.
Later on in the day we had to try a bit of their Black forest gateau, 'Well worth it though the coffee was a bit luke warm'. 
Breakfast in the morning was excellent, cheese & thick ham for change.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
All in all very good for a stay overnight in Triberg.

Good hotel with cake

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it very comfortable. The cafe which is attached has delicious home baked cakes and hand made chocolates! Breakfast is in the cafe and although there is no hot food it is well presented, fresh and plentiful. Our room was big, very clean and comfortable. Like many older hotels in Germany there is no lift so you need to be able to climb stairs with your luggage. One disadvantage was no wifi in the rooms only in the cafe which closes at 5.30 and in the lobby. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!
