Hotel Communal is perfectly suited to explore the Champery area for MTB touring, in the center of Val d'Illiez very near to the train station. Take e. g. the pathway through Champoussin to Pointe de Moissette (2300m) - Cheese farm "Chez Gaby" a perfect luch stop in Champoussin. And home e. g. through Touvassiere (NOT Lac Vert!) and Morgins. Or the wonderful more shadowy forest tour to Barme/Cantine de Barmaz ... this is a secluded high valley with many further possibilities. The hotel people very friendly, the rooms very nice and clean, the breakfast rich and with great local products. The hotel has a first class gourmet restaurant, and there is a nice more simple village bistro on the other side of the village court.

Great MTB weekend in a wonderful place

I really could not have wished for more from my last dining experience at Hotel Communal.
Despite these challenging times for the hospitality industry, their restaurant delivers a high quality of locally sourced ingredients transformed into beautifully styled and delicious dishes.
The team here pair this with an exciting wine list which obviously comes from a real passion for great wine.
We were a difficult group, wanting a tasting menu while having several different dietary requirements at the table. Despite this we never felt like a burden, the chefs and the front of house team could not have been more flexible.

Between the talented chefs and the incredible hosts they managed to create an evening for our table that really won't be forgotten. An absolute treat of a restaurant and a true gem of Valais.

Impressive food, personal service

we had dinner at the Hotel Communal in Val d'illiez last week.
We were five people.
We waited 45 minutes to be served and the staff stood around talking to eachother.
The food was mediocre for the price we paid.
The next day we went to the petrol station cum kiosque cum coffee shop in Val d'illiez.
The food was excellent and not expensive.

long wait for dinner

A nice hotel with charm, clean, comfortable, and a smiling and welcoming staff. Only bemool, the bathroom that is frankly not up to the height of the room.

A good address

Our B&B host recommended Hotel Communal for dinner during our stay.  The location of the restaurant was wonderful, right in the center of the village with a superb view of the mountains.   There was some confusion about our reservation but we were finally given a table which was personally set by the owner Per-Henrik, a very friendly gentleman who also offered us tasting of various wines before we made our choice and helped us decide on our food.  The two appetizers, Boulette de Raclette (cheese ball) and Crispy Asparagus (with a parmesan sauce) were perfectly prepared and just delicious!  Unfortunately the great start might have set my expectation too high.  For main course, we had Osso Bucco and Tuite meuniere (fresh trout from the valley).  The Osso Bucco was good, but a bit on the tough side.  The trout was smothered by the sauce which was heavy and congealed over the fish.  It was a pity.  Without the sauce, the trout, fresh and tender, would have been excellent.  The vegetables were al dente, very nicely done.  The wines recommended by the owner were very good.   In spite of the disappointing main courses, we enjoyed the evening.  Even good restaurants have glitches from time to time.  Next time we are in the area, we would try it again.  

Nearly Great Restaurant

Hotel with a nice restaurant. Room with no charm, no personal touch, you don't feel the love of the hotel and your own hotel. Poor breakfast... the waiter tells us that there's no jam anymore. (!!!) no fruit, only one kind of bread.

Very disappointed

The rooms have everything you need but there was a small heating problem (of which the staff apologized) during our visit. Easy access, in the centre of the village with adjacent parking. And above all has a superb restaurant, which we highly recommend!

A simple mountain hotel

We stayed for one week at the hotel. The room was lovely and clean. The bathroom was similar to a portacabin but it was complete and functional. (I don't know why I didn't think of it at my own home!!!) anyway, a great idea and perfect for the job.  

When coming down for breakfast we were warmly greeted by the lady in the restaurant who was very gracious and kind, Unfortunately she didn't, speak English, but then that was my fault for not learning French! But communication was not a problem,... My partner is French! 

Food in the restaurant was as good as they advertise! "Melt in the mouth food!" The proprietor was very charming and interesting to talk to and made sure we had everything we needed. 

In all, they all made our stay very welcome and we would definitely recommend them again.

Wonderful stay, Wonderful people!

Great accommodation. Clean. Staff friendly. I adored just sitting at my window looking out, especially at the steeple. Caro Diem. Seize the day. Great restaurant close by. I would love to go back in winter. 

Just Beautiful 

Even though the hotel is in the central square of the village, with the traffic that this implies, the village and the hotel are quiet and charming, not (yet) affected by the growing industrialization, far from the concrete blocks of some major cities in Switzerland, with the sound of cow bells and birds close by. We have everything nearby (bakery, mini market, bookstore, gas station, pizza or truck pizza, train to Champéry...), the restaurant kitchen is very good (gargantuous platter valid) and breakfast is more than right. A very recommended hotel for a stay of 3-4 days. If you are lucky, you will have at the hotel a room that has a very profitable view of the valley with two grand windows...
