The Eden Hotel - Am Hofgarten

Hotel Eden is a charming hotel located right in the centre of the city. Opposite the hotel is a lovely garden that makes the place nice and quite. Rooms are spacious and breakfast is good. Staff at the reception are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Deco is colorful and fresh. I loved the welcome cookies and Lindt chocolates at the reception, it was a nice touch. Service was excellent! Train station is 5 minutes walk and you can walk to Beethoven's house in 10 minutes. I will book this hotel again.

Perfectly Located

Great location and friendly staff. Breakfast was okay, as were rooms. There was soap and wifi worked okay, so maybe there have been changes.

Nothing spectacular, but fine for a short stay in a quiet location with easy walking to city centre, river Rhine and main station.

There is no lift so as another has said, book for first floor room.

Basic but adequate

The hotel is conveniently located close to the city centre but a bit run down. There is no elevator so you have to climb the stairs with your luggage. 

The room was basic but otherwise ok. The balcony is wide and you have a view of the church nearby when you are on the top floor like I did

Free Wifi internet worked ok and the breakfast buffet was simple but sufficient for me

Convenient location but a bit run down

The hotel is located right across from a park and is only minutes from the main cathedral. We had a balcony room on the back side and it was wonderful. It was a great to sit and relax at night with a glass of wine. Being at the back made for a very quiet night. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We were able to lock our bikes in the courtyard. Our room was large and comfortable.

Great Balcony

I stayed here for a conference at the University, for which it is very convenient; mercifully not at my own expense. Cleaning of the room was poor - on arrival I found someone else's pubes in the shower. There were no bottles of shampoo or cakes of soap, but instead there was a combined soap/shampoo dispenser in the shower and in the bathroom; the one in the shower was empty, and not replenished during my stay. Two days into my stay the cleaning staff removed the soap/shampoo dispensers (apparently in other rooms too), and the hotel declined to provide any replacement soap. Seriously???? What kind of hotel wants to make its guests unable to wash their hair?
WiFi was so slow as to be largely unusable, and I ended up using my own Vodafone USB modem, at my own expense.  Breakfast was mediocre at best, with some things (e.g. scrambled eggs) simply not supplied on some days.
There is no lift - not normally a problem for me, except that I had pulled a muscle in my back the day before, and carrying my suitcase and other bag up (only) two floors was not fun and delayed recovery.
Overall it is clear that the management of the hotel is both uncaring of customer comfort, and incompetent. The location of this hotel is its only good feature, but it needs to be taken over by a firm that will run it properly, and invest to give it a facelift - and a real lift. Unless and until that happens, if it does, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Avoid - poor service, no soap/shampoo, rubbish WiFi

Though the staff at the reception desk were fine, it was a bore to have to carry my bag up three flights of stairs to a single, tiny garret room, with complicated wifi (it says, 'click on laptop' when no 'laptop' is present).  But more surprising was the lack, not only of shampoo, but even of soap in the bathroom.  In the shower there were holes where the dispenser had been ripped out.  A colleague found that that on the third day of his stay the second pillow on his bed and the second duvet had been removed - perhaps to avoid another guest?  The breakfast was adequate, although scrambled eggs ran out by 8:30, the staff friendly, responding to 'why is there no soap?' with a sad smile and a 'you're not the only one, we have no idea'.  In sum, if the proprietors were less mean-spirited it might be a nicer place.
