I organized a retreat for all the staff of the organization I work in. The meeting room was very good and the gardens are beautiful. Rooms are quite old but clean. Food is ok in taste but I believe not in hygiene. Many people of our staff got sick during and after our stay in the hotel. I'm not sure they use clean drinking water to cook and make juices. Besides that, we agreed on a price and finally they charged us more through certain tricks they have. The swimming pools are nice but not very clean and there is no control of the right use of pools, therefore some people wear regular clothes in them, they don't shower before getting in, etc.
Won't come back, at least I hear the administration is other.

Nice place bad service

I usually research hotels before booking but this was chosen by my Son.  He told me it was ‘all-inclusive’ so I agreed to pay over £550 (GBP) for 2 rooms for 2 nights.

I’ll start with the positives:  
The location deep in the jungle is fabulous, the gardens are absolutely beautiful and its proximity to a local wildlife sanctuary is great.

The negatives:
It is not ‘all-inclusive’, it is full board with cheap juice served at breakfast and lunch.  Our drinks bill was steep (there were 5 of us).  The food choice is pretty dismal and luke warm at best.  Limited choice, unappetizing food served by staff that looked like they wished they were elsewhere.

With the exception of 2 guys in the bar by the indoor pool and the young female receptionist, no-one smiled and customer service was sadly very lacking.  If you asked for anything, you were made to feel they were doing you a big favour!  Staff need to be reminded that customers pay their wages!

When we arrived, there was no running water for nearly 2 hours.  The room was pretty dire with lots of dead bugs not swept up, no plug for the sink; totally basic amenities (soap) and the safe didn’t work as it lacked batteries.  We asked reception for batteries but told they weren’t available but valuables could be left at reception (….ummmm no thanks!)

The beds were really unhygienic as there was NO mattress cover and only a very thin worn sheet between me and a mattress that had been previously slept on by countless others.  The pillows weren’t pillows, they were actually pillowcases filled with polyester wadding (see photo) which fell out onto the floor while you slept.  If that wasn’t bad enough, the bed cover was old, bobbled, stained and smelled like it hadn’t been laundered (see pic).

The windows are not sealed properly so despite fly screens the bugs get into your room during the night, coupled with no air-con ; sleep was difficult.  Countless mozzie bites!

There were several outdoor pools, all were freezing cold despite it being the middle of summer.  The indoor pool didn’t look very inviting and the Jacuzzi was empty but no-one could tell us why.  Only 2 of the 6 water water slides were operational again with no reason being given.

This is already a large resort but noticed a lot more rooms being added right next to the river where the noise of the water is horrendous..  Surely, the funds to bring the current rooms up to a reasonable standard first could have been been made more of a priority?

It is noteworthy that of the 140 reviews published, not one has received a Management response.  When we asked to speak to a Manager, he/she was ‘not available’.  They obviously don’t care enough to address any issues raised and rely on tourists wanting a jungle experience to boost their profits.

Would I return or would I rather stick red hot needles in my eyes??  Guess!

Dire!

Took my wife, parents and niece to this hotel in November 2018.  We purchased the "All inclusive" package and paid just over $500 USD for 3 days and 2 nights.  Here is the experience:

Just before arriving to the village where the hotel is located (about 30 minutes from Coroico), there was a large bulldozer in the road as there had been a land slide the night before.  The bulldozer had created a makeshift road, however only vehicles with high ground clearance could cross it.  A coupe or sedan type car would not have passed.  This is not the hotels fault, however it's something to keep in mind for future travelers.

When I pulled up at the hotel, the guard at the gate was welcoming, however he watched us unload all of the travel bags from the car without offering to help.  Upon check-in, the reception clerk told me that they would keep my Bolivian ID card at the desk for the duration of our stay.  (I wasn't 100% happy with this, as we had plans to leave the hotel for a few hours the next day, and I shouldn't be out and about without my ID card).

The young lady who took us to our rooms went the wrong way before doubling back and finally arriving at the correct rooms.  Whereby she opened the doors to the two rooms, handed over the key and took off.  An introduction to the room facilities, or even a mention about meal times would have been nice, but was apparently too much for her.  She left without another word.

The rooms were not very clean (dust, dead insects in the corners), and although the bed sheets and blankets appeared clean, they were clearly very old and in need of replacement.

The safe in both rooms didn't work.  It appeared that they required new batteries.  However when my father asked in reception, they told him he could leave valuables behind the reception desk.  Apparently, providing us with 4 AA bateries was not hotel policy...

Meals are all buffet service.  The food was adequate, however the lunch chefs serving the food were polite and cheerful.  Lunch on our first day was quiet, and there was fresh juice served with it.  However, when I asked the waiter to bring our table a jug of juice, explaining that we are a family of five and prefer a jug to serve at the table, he rolled his eyes, gave a huff and then walked off, returning 5 minutes later with said jug.  None of us were impressed by his attitude.

After lunch, my niece and I wanted to ride on the large water slides at the back of the hotel.  These slides, the games area and the beautiful gardens are what make Rio Selva resort very appealing.  It is a very beautiful hotel, and water slides at a Bolivia hotel are uncommon.
When we arrived at the slides, only 2 out of the 6 were working.  I asked 3 different hotel employees if they could have the other slides turned on, and they all promised me they'd speak to the guy responsible.  However, one hour later nothing had changed.  We made the most of it by throwing ourselves down the two functioning slides in different ways.

Meanwhile, my father went to the bar at the disco near reception to order a beer.  After waiting for 10 minutes for a bartender or other member of staff to appear, he went to reception to complain.  They told him to go back to the bar and wait.  In all, he waited almost 20 minutes to be served one beer.

After the buffet dinner, we realized that the only form of entertainment at night was the karaoke bar.  We had seen the sign for this bar near our rooms but found the building was closed and all the lights off.  When I went to reception, the girl there laughed and said that the karaoke bar was at the back of the hotel near the water slides (despite the large sign saying otherwise).  This should be another thing explained to guests upon check-in.  At the very least, they should take the old sign down.

The karaoke bar was probably the only place in the hotel where the service was good.  The two bartenders gave us table service with a smile, and made sure that all guests who wished to sing all got their turns in a fair way.  The karaoke system seemed a bit dated - many songs in English either don't work, or the words and the music are not synchronized.  However, we had fun with it.

We arrived to breakfast the next day at 9.50am.  However, upon arrival we were told that breakfast finished and closed at 9.45am, so there was no food.  Again, this was NOT explained to us upon check-in, and being as 9.45 is an unusual time to close a breakfast restaurant, it's not as if we could have easily guessed.  (I would have guessed 10am as the closing time).
Nonetheless, the waiter on duty for breakfast told my wife and I to take a seat and he went into the kitchen.  He returned to our table with a basket of bread, assorted fresh fruits and two plates of scrambled eggs.  He also brought us fresh fruit juice.

I wish I'd taken a note of this waiters name, because he seemed to be the only member of staff in the entire hotel (except the karaoke bartenders) who actually cared about the guests and their experience.  All I remember is that he was between 40 and 50 years old, and had a square shaped face, he was very good.

That day, my family and I left the hotel and took our car to La Senda Verde animal refuge, and then into Coroico itself.  The animal refuge is well worth the visit.  However, in Coroico there is almost nowhere to park your car.  I found a space in front of a black Jeep on a side street and we went to lunch.  When we returned, a municipal guard was attaching a clamp to my car.  When I confronted him, he said I was ilegally parked.  I challenged him on it, arguing that there was not one single sign post to indicate that I couldn't park there, but he didn't care.  It didn't help my case much that the black Jeep was now gone.  At the police station, they told me I had to pay a fine of 400 Bolivianos, however the police officer eventually said that for 100 Bs, he'd let me go and they'd forget the whole thing.  Again, this isn't related to Rio Selva hotel, but it's a warning to fellow travelers about the police corruption in Coroico.

When we returned to the hotel, we played some pool and ping pong in the games room, then had dinner and then returned to the karaoke bar, before heading to bed.

The next morning, my wife and I made sure to get to breakfast earlier.  We arrived at 9.35am, only to find that most of the food was gone, even though breakfast is served until 9.45am.  I asked the waiter (a young man) for scrambled eggs and he tried to scrape the gooey leftovers from the last batch out of the pan and slosh it on my plate.  My wife asked him to get more from the kitchen, his reply was "All the eggs are gone, you should have gotten here earlier".  My wife stormed to reception to complain and the waiter reluctantly reappeared 10 minutes later with more scambled eggs.

After breakfast, we wanted to go hiking up over the hill next to the hotel.  In reception they said we could just go ahead and head up the path, however the path was blocked by a locked metal gate.  I walked back to reception (5 minutes each way) and asked for the key.  After a few minutes waiting, they handed me 4 keys and told me they didn't know which one it was, but I could take all 4 and bring them back later.  Thankfully, one of the keys worked and we hiked over the hill and down to a small river where we splashed around and took pictures.

When we returned to the hotel, my father and I wanted a coffee.  Not only did this also bother the duty waiter, but we were charged for it!  Apparently, "All inclusive" for Rio Selva Resort means "Room, food, and juice with your meal"  Because NOTHING else is included, not even a small coffee.

We packed our bags, decided to skip lunch and check out.  The check out process took a long time (Long enough for me to walk the 5 minutes to the car park, return with the car, load the bags into the car, and then wait another 5 minutes for them to finish the check out process).  Our bill (for a few alcoholic drinks and a few coffees) was over 1200bs.  Not only is the "All inclusive" package a complete joke, but the prices are marked up by more than 200%.  We paid by credit card and I told the young lady in reception that their service was appalling and that I was unsatisfied.  Her response was "Well, I don't know what to tell you.  We can't even get the employees to smile, let alone provide a good service!".  I guess that was her way of an apology.

In summary, Rio Selva Resort in Yungas is a stunningly beautiful hotel.  Particularly it's gardens and quaint little cabañas.  However, the housekeeping in the rooms is not up to standard.  The customer service is non-existent and as such, it is ridiculously overpriced.

I won't ever return.

Beautiful but terrible service.  Won't return.

This is a resort where everything except  alcoholic beverages is covered in the cost of a room.  The resort is designed to provide a warm weather relief to Bolivian tourists from the cold highlands (including La Paz).  Excellent buffet but oriented toward Bolivian tastes. Features several pools, water slides a karoake, discoteque and pub.  It is full of families on the weekend and more peaceful during the week.  Rooms were nice and service was excellent by local standards.

Great get away from La Paz

First of all avoid this place at all costs during week days. My parents, my fiancé and I recently visited this resort and left very disappointed.
1. You have to pay in full before getting there not knowing whether things will be available to you or not. They take your money without telling you if things will be in working order when you get there.
2. None tells you most things are only available after 3pm and on a first come first serve basis.
3. Don't expect the inside pool to be warm as advertised. It's heated by solar panels so if the weather is bad the water will be ice cold.
4. Workers decide weather they want to open the sauna or jacuzzi for you. We waited all day for the jacuzzi to be available to us and we were never able to use it. Didn't feel like opening up the second one for us "because it took too long"...
5. None of the water slides were available to use. 
6. We were not able to use the pools the entire time we were there because the borders were being painted.... 
7. The staff in the lunch/dinner rooms were very friendly. And the food was the only good thing about this place. 
8. We had no warm water to take a shower. Had to wait 20 min for them to fix it.
9. Rooms are ok. Need maintenance, especially for spider webs. Phone in room did not work. We had to walk to the reception every time we needed something... and on top of everything else, the TV remote was broken we couldn't even watch TV!!!
10. We complained about or experience to the owner in person and we were sent on a tourist attraction to a mini zoo. Little did we know we were going to end up paying for this too!! We ended up spending more money and they did nothing to make up for our horrible experience. 
Never coming back here! 

Worse  Experience Ever!

We book in La Paz, Bolivia at the Rio Vista  Central Office, we pay cash (I shouldn't), we book to start on Monday and leave Thursday, Two adults two children 6 and 8.
When we arrived, there was no electricity at all, so we can't take advantage of saunas pools,slides and so on, because the pumps to clean the water didn't work, so water was filthy, we couldn't even take shower water was cold.
First day totally disappointed,  I ask to talk to General Manager, who literally hide from us.
The personal was polite and try their best to accommodate us, but it wasn't working at all, I got sick, we change rooms twice, because hot water wasn't working, the all hotel was falling apart same like, we had to go to different rooms to take showers, with two kids it make a totally bad experience.
THE WORSE. 
Central Office in La Paz, KNEW all about the cut in electricity and didn't tell us. 
Back in La Paz, I went to Rio Vista Central Office and request to speak with General Manager, who hide from me, just like the c.... at Rio Vista Resort. I leave my name,phone number, email address so the General Manager can contact me, (still waiting)
The personal, was really polite and know all about the problems and try their best to help, sometimes without the management knowing.
My advise to TOURIST, better go to Coroico you will find places that have all amenities, and for a more reasonable price.
Local at lease know how to deal with this cases of managements.
