Our room overlooked the Main Street. Great views but extremely noisy at night as located by a row of restaurants and very busy weekend perhaps due to Expo exhibition. No air conditioning and had to leave windows open at night. Noise until early hours in the morning. We had to ask for a fan. No safe, or coffee/tea in the bedroom. Quite basic room, pillow very flat, but room was clean. Bathroom was ok but needs renovating. Overall the hotel is clean but tired decor. Breakfast is optional but not available until 8am. At times no one at reception and not 24 hrs. The staff was really pleasant and accommodating .

Great location but not for me

Well located. Central to all amenities, restaurants, shops, train station and xmas markets. Helpful management both at early check in and late checkout. Excellent breakfast and service. Rooms clean. Wifi reception was not very strong in my room other room ok.

Good location and service

The hotel is located right by the Rhine river so a good location. And the Thai restaurant underneath was very good. There was a lift to the rooms.

Note: if you are driving, you cannot get to the hotel. It is on a pedestrianised street but we didn't know this so we spent over half an hour trying to locate it. We ended up stopping in a taxi rank and walking to hotel to find it. You have to use the nearby public underground carpark. The hotel has a tiny entrance, sandwiched between restaurants and is difficult to see, even when pointed out to you. There was a fan, but no air-conditioning. No tea or coffee-making facilities. Staff didn't give us the wifi password - I had to ring them to get it. The rooms are basic and rather smack of a youth hostel.

Very hot airless night - probably best visited when it's not summer

I love the egg omelet, slices of cold cuts, cheeses, breads and drinks for breakfast while looking at the river.

At the ground floor are rows of restaurants, something to consider if you're a light or early sleeper specially Friday/Saturday night.  We don't drink/party because of early morning tours but for those who do this is a good accommodation for you.

Old hotel but with an elevator!

The location of the hotel allowed us to move easily and reach all the points of interest of the city of Cologne. In the evening to sleep it was mandatory to close the windows, since the hotel is right above the series of restaurants in front of the Rhine River. If it was hot you could only count on a fan above a table. Really Spartan breakfast, which is not worth the cost. The lady who received us at the reception was very kind, but after two days is replaced by a gentleman of very few words! The whole structure would need maintenance.

Great position, but a lot of flaws.

A bit of a mixed bag.  
Pluses are: (1) great location within walking distance (with a suitcase) of the main train station and cathedral; (2) great views of the river; (3) wonderful, lovely lady who runs the place and seems to do just about everything there - breakfast, rooms, reception, etc.; (4) We had the top floor suite which is spacious and has a balcony with great views of the Rhine.
Negatives are: (1) it is a bit scruffy and dilapidated - e.g., bulbs weren't working when we got there (but promptly replaced), carpet is stained, bathroom and shower are very old and need complete overhaul, door to stairs is wobbly and paint is badly chipped, no plug for the bath; (2) no air conditioning so you have to open the windows wide; (3) curtains don't fit and are very thin; (4) can get rather noisy outside on Friday and Saturday nights when the restaurants below are packed; (5) very limited selection at breakfast time.
Overall we liked it - the marvellous lady who runs it tipped the balance in its favour.  But it needs a bit (well, quite a lot actually) of money spending on it to bring it into the 21st century.

Cheap but Cheerful - great staff!

My friends and I went to Cologne for the weekend of July 20th for Amphi Festival 2019.  We wanted a cheap and cheerful hotel within walking distance of the festival grounds and Hotel Römerhafen ticked the boxes.

The hotel entrance is sandwiched between restaurants along the river front.  The lobby is unmanned after a certain point so you're given a key to the front door so you can get in after the staff leave for the day.

As with most things in Europe, you have to climb stairs.  There is an elevator but it's slower than a glacier and just climbing the stairs is faster.

I was staying with 2 others so we had one double bed and a single bed in the room.  Of course I ended up having to sleep with one of my friends and I'm happy to report he couldn't feel me flip flopping around and I could feel him turning over.  So that was pretty nice.

The bathroom was small, if you're a person of size you're not going to have a very good time because you kind of had to squeeze in between the shower and sink to close the door.  The shower could also be a challenge and it was challenged for the tall person in the group since the shower head didn't stay at the height you adjusted it to (this was the only complaint... us short people didn't see the issue).

Oh and a tip... if you're expecting air conditioning, this isn't the place to go.

Overall it was clean, right by the festival grounds and everything was great! We will probably book again next July!

A Hotel at a Great Price in an Unbelievable Location

Found the room clean tidy good size bathroom. Breakfast fresh fruit and a good variety.to choose from veiw excellent walking distance to railway station. Also in the heart of restaurant strip plenty to choose from. You might be put of at first but give it a try across the river there is a major chain motel. You would more than likely to pay a lot more for the view. Found the staff quite pleasant room cleaned and towels changed daily

Holiday

First you drag the suitcase down a narrow staircase to the second floor (there's an elevator). The room isn't very clean. The furniture is set up. It's smelly and smells bad, and the windows go out to bars and restaurants, it's very noisy until late at night. The bathroom is always lit (automatic) and you have to patch it on.

More hosted than a hotel

Situated above a row of bars and restaurants, it’s ideally located if you are visiting a conference at the Messe. A nice stroll over the bridge. To be honest, it is quite basic and probably not someplace I’d go for a romantic break, but for business travel, it was fine. A little bland in the way in and a bit dated, but very clean room and bathroom was fine. Breakfast was cold buffet and not a massive selection.
